The Matter–Niron partnership seeks to address this challenge by deploying Iron Nitride magnets.Electric mobility technology company, Matter, on Thursday said it has entered into a collaboration with US-based Niron Magnetics to explore the use of rare earth free magnet technology in next-generation electric motorcycle platforms.
According to the official press release, under the partnership, Matter will evaluate the integration of Niron Magnetics’ Iron Nitride permanent magnets and Variable Flux Motor designs into its electric powertrain architecture.
Mohal Lalbhai, founder and group chief executive officer, said that the partnership aims to push the limits of performance, efficiency and sustainability in electric two-wheelers.
It added that the companies aim to develop high-performance EV motors that reduce dependence on rare earth materials, which are widely used in electric vehicles but face environmental concerns and supply chain volatility.
The first prototype emerging from the collaboration was unveiled at CES 2026, highlighting the feasibility of combining Matter’s liquid-cooled powertrains, in-house gearbox systems and vehicle electronics with Niron’s magnet technology.
The Matter–Niron partnership seeks to address this challenge by deploying Iron Nitride magnets, which do not rely on rare earths or critical minerals, while maintaining high performance.
