Letter: Made in Canada electric car industry for Cowichan?

Dear Cowichan MP Jeff Kibble, Prime Minister Mark Carney, Premier David Eby, and North Cowichan mayor and council, and CVRD directors:

News reports claim China’s BYD electric cars have overtaken Tesla’s electric models in global sales.

The public is apparently thirsty for these vehicles to help fight environmental damage and bury fuel bills, while cranking much-needed jobs and tax revenues.

What are we waiting for?

Let’s work with Canadian companies, engineering brains, unions and investors to make these cars — perhaps in Cowichan through Economic Development Cowichan and North Cowichan’s economic-development committee — rather than waiting, then sadly importing them from Asia and elsewhere.
