Unlike the combustion crowd, who will be frantically pouring liquids into tanks, the electric riders can enlist their service crews to physically swap the battery at the designated service point. It’s like changing the batteries in your TV remote, only the remote is covered in mud, and everyone is screaming at you in German. Organizers are also setting up emission-free charging stations in the Erzbergrodeo Arena and another powered spot up on the mountain. It seems they have thought of everything, except maybe installing an escalator for the riders.

Karl Katoch, the Founder and CEO of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo – a man who I assume eats gravel for breakfast – is surprisingly smitten. He said, “The Stark Varg is special to me because it is the world’s first production off-road sports motorcycle that is competitive in almost every current competition.” He even admitted to having one in his garage, saying it has taken a “permanent place” there. When the guy who designed the world’s cruelest motorcycle race buys your bike, you are probably doing something right.
