LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Climate-conscious e-bike advocates in the Upper Valley are planning for the upcoming biking season with a new e-bike charging station coming to the city of Lebanon.
The station will be located near the tunnel downtown, a popular stop that connects the Mascoma River Greenway and the Northern Rail Trail.
A $3,000 donation from AARP New Hampshire will help pay for the solar-powered station. It will be the only public e-bike charging station in the Upper Valley.
Those behind the project say the popularity of e-bikes continues to grow.
“The biggest reduction in greenhouse gases worldwide has been e-bikes. people getting out of cars. So, it is making a big difference for the climate, it is a big difference for people’s budgets, and it is good for you,” said Sherry Boschert of Lebanon’s Energy Advisory Committee, which is behind the project.
The committee is now looking to raise roughly $9,000 to build a structure over the charging station. They hope to have it all installed sometime this upcoming riding season.
