LEBANON, N.H. (ABC22/FOX44) – A three-season free electric bike charging station is coming to downtown Lebanon.

It’s the first of its kind in the Upper Valley – Lebanon officials say the nearest e-bike charging station is in Danbury, 26 miles away.

The city says that the chargers will be placed near the Mascoma River Greenway and the Northern Rail Trail.

Thanks to a $3,000 donation from the New Hampshire AARP, no city funds are being used for the project. Lebanon officials say that e-bikes are “a great fit for helping Lebanon’s residents,” citing the city’s older population – more than 90% of e-bike riders are over 50.

The station is part of a larger project that officials say may eventually lead to charging stations in West Lebanon and other places in the Upper valley.
