Electric Pitbikes are getting Too Fast..
There is nothing quite as fun as an electric minibike. They are a blast to ride. They’re silent, so you can kind of take them anywhere. And most importantly, they’re approachable. Anybody can get on one of these things and go have a good time because usually they’re not that fast usually. This is the Altus Delta. You guys probably know the Altus Sigma. This is a completely new bike. Like frame, everything is completely new. It’s kind of like if you took an Ulta Sigma and you like shrunk it in the dryer. And believe it or not, this tiny little thing is supposed to go 62 m an hour. Now, obviously, we’re going to test that. See if it’s legit. But even if it only goes 60, I’d argue that’s too fast. As I’m unboxing this, I’m realizing it’s going to take a little bit more assembly than I anticipated, but I am completely fine with that as long as there is a tool kit somewhere in this box, especially with smaller bikes. This is probably going to be people’s first bike. So, most people aren’t going to have a bunch of tools kicking around. I haven’t found the toolkit yet, but I’m hoping it’s in here. Let’s investigate. This is the final box I haven’t opened yet. I swear if there’s no tool kit in here, dude. Major point deduction for Altus. A wiring harness. What the heck, bolts, pegs. Okay, these are all good things. Oh, and they’re pre-mounted, so you don’t need to fiddle around with the stupid spring. That’s pretty sweet. Ah, and a kickstand, which honestly I’m probably not going to put on the bike. Is there really no tool kit? Hold on. Yo, >> I have a couple random questions. Do you know what this is for? It came in the box. It’s just a completely new wiring harness. As far as I can tell, everything is plugged into the bike. >> I don’t know, but I can call and ask. >> And then a couple other things. Well, number one, I don’t think there’s a tool kit that comes with it, right? >> I guess there isn’t. If it didn’t come with it, >> if it rides, great. Who cares? Whatever. And then the last thing was, maybe I’m being dumb, but I think I’m missing the rear shock bolt. Like, these are the only bolts that come with it. This one is empty, and it didn’t have a bolt running through there. >> Let me see if I can at least get you the bolt size. I’ll find out about the wiring harness, what that’s all about. >> Okay, thank you very much. I did some investigating and I have solved multiple mysteries. I should have mentioned before I even started this video. This is a pre-production bike. As far as I know, there are three in the United States right now. The other two bikes are currently with YouTubers. I’ll let you guess uh who those two people might be. So, with a pre-production review bike like this, we should expect a couple mysteries. Mystery number one, the case of the missing bolt. This isn’t much of a mystery. The bolt was never missing. This bolt along with the little spacers in there was buried under this piece of packaging in the bottom corner of the box. Now, I’m not sure if it’ll be packaged this way for production bikes, but it’s a good reminder to not throw away your packaging until you’re absolutely sure you have everything out of the box. This isn’t really a reminder that most people need. I just clearly am kind of dumb. Mystery number two, the case of the Rogue wiring harness. We got in touch with Altus directly about this and they told us it’s just an extra wiring harness. I’ve never seen a bike company do that. It’s kind of odd, but honestly, it’s not a terrible idea. They’re pretty cheap to produce and often times if a bike completely shuts down, it’s probably a frayed wire in the wiring harness. Never seen that before. Kind of odd, but kind of cool. In case number three, the case of the missing tool kit. Altus confirmed this bike will not come with a tool kit. It’s not a huge deal. It’s just a minor bummer. And luckily, you don’t need that many tools. In fact, I’ve put together everything you need here. Wire cutters for removing zip ties, a 15 mm crescent wrench, small ratchet with T30 Torx bit, big ratchet with a T50 Torx bit, and lastly, a Phillips head screwdriver. Also in the box, you have your front fender, your 72-volt charger with little uh charge LEDs, kind of neat. Your pegs and brackets pre-mounted with the spring, kind of nice. Your kickstand with the spring also pre-mounted, very nice. front plastics, your front number plate, bar clamps, and a bunch of identical bolts. This is great because for all of the things you need to assemble, you can’t mix up the bolts. Plastic push pins for mounting up plastics. Uh, extra wiring harness as discussed. And that’s about it. But what I really care about, and what I’m guessing you care about, is how this puppy rides. The last couple steps to get this thing ready to ride were pretty easy, like mounting up the bars. Now, I want to tell you a secret trick. I always split the bar pad foam so I have space to work on the top clamps without having to take the entire crossbar off. Even though this doesn’t come with a user manual, all of the steps are actually super easy and self-explanatory like bolting up the front fender and the number plate goes on with like two Phillips head screws. It’s super duper easy. I did realize you have to push down the support tube for the front brake line and then just bolt on the pegs. I’m so happy you don’t have to put in the spring. Mounting up the front plastics is just as easy. You just got to take the little plastic push pins and pop them in the top. Then I threw on the front wheel and mounted up the front brake. And just like that, it was ready to ride. It’s actually weirdly comfortable. Okay, red button gets me out of park. Then I have three modes. 1 2 3. Wo! Max speed. Hold on. Look at this. The display not only shows your miles per hour, but I can do an odometer, time, max speed, average speed. And then if you hold down this middle button, you can hack into the bike, bro. password. I want to go test ride this thing. Uh there’s just one minor problem I haven’t mentioned yet. We are currently experiencing an atmospheric river. It has been raining for the past 7 days and will continue to rain for the next 7 days. This is about the worst weather for a bike review you could possibly imagine. Luckily, there is a place we can go to test out bikes when it’s raining. That’s the abandoned mountain bike park underneath the freeway. Unfortunately, the bike park is halfway across the city and I’m already cold. But then again, fortunately, this is going to be a really great test of whether or not this bike is waterproof. So, on the way there, let’s cover some of the basics. There are three speed modes. Mode one is incredibly slow. If I go down to mode one, it won’t even accelerate me until I get to 16 mph. The max speed in mode one is 16 mph. Look at this. Full throttle. It is a very different story when you bump it up to mode two. Now it feels like angry. Dude, can you hear that? I also have the GPS running in my pocket. That’s going to record our total distance today and give us an idea of how good the range is on this thing. We’re starting at 83%. Okay, mode two. When you’re cruising, I’m like at 30 mph here. It’s like it only wants to accelerate, dude. It feels It feels like angry. Okay, real quick. We got to make a pit stop cuz the true test of a perfect ebike is whether or not you can go through the Taco Bell drive-thru. Moment of truth. Let’s do this. >> Hi, how can I help you? >> Hi, can I have a zero sugar Baja Blast with vanilla creamer, please? >> Yep. You can pull forward after order already. Ready? >> Thank you very much, man. They’re the best here. Thank you. Have a Baja Blast. See you. Oh my god, I almost just wiped out. That was bad. I’m really excited to test mode three. I’m also pretty nervous to test mode three. Mode two is already pretty aggressive. It feels kind of like a 72 hole sura. Also, it already passed the most important test. Getting a Baja blast from Taco Bell. Okay, let’s go test this thing out. Luckily, it has stopped raining for a couple seconds. I was starting to get worried about the waterproofness of the display. If you power wash these things, sometimes I get hurt. So far, it seems to be doing totally fine. And on the plus side, I love how simple this bike is. I don’t like RFID keys. I don’t like when there’s like 18 power modes and you don’t know which one to choose. This one has three power modes. It has a key and that’s it. That’s the perfect ebike to me. Oh, hey. It just winked at me, dude. Oh, now see, now it’s playing dumb. Like, it didn’t just wink at me. Oh, look at this. Oh, we’re keeping up with the Tesla. Come on, dude. Oh, but mode 2 is capped out. 38 m an hour, it says allegedly. That’s under the speed limit here. I promise. Let’s see about mode three. Wa wa. Holy crap. Mode three. Oh my gosh, dude. I am cooking, dude. This thing moves. I am so nervous about these brand new dirt tires on the pavement. That’s why we got to get to the mountain bike park. Dude, I would definitely rather be not riding on the street in these conditions. Luckily, the brakes work really well. I think a lot of people who will be interested in this bike are going to be looking at it in comparison to the ETM RTR. You guys know I have the Baja Blaster. I love that bike, but I actually think they’re in slightly different categories. This is about 10 to 15% bigger. The wheels are a little bit larger. The frame is actually all aluminum just like an Altus or a Suron or something like that. whereas the RTR has a steel front half. There’s no better or worse. It’s kind of a matter of preference. The RTR is also slightly cheaper, but I’m going to say this is way faster. Hello, Tesla. Sorry. Ooh, can we sneak through here? This is the best part of miniikes, dude. You can just squeeze on through. Don’t worry about me. Oh, look at that green light. Perfect. Oh, hello, please, officer. That’s okay. We’re just on a mini bike. There’s nothing to worry about. It’s just a little electric bike, dude. Anyway, as I was saying, this thing can go 60 m an hour. The RTR can go 50, and that already feels like a pretty quick bike for how small it is. Hey, ebike. But honestly, I don’t even care about the top speed. Holy crap. Oh my gosh, this thing. Oh boy, this thing is so fast. Oh, that is Oh boy. Oh god. Oh, this really this is too much, dude. Also, I got to say it’s a sweet looking little bike. And apparently apparently they’re releasing super motos for this bike. What do you guys think? Should I do a super moto conversion, make this a little street machine, or should I keep it on the knobs and go rip some trails? I don’t know. Let’s check on our range progress. Okay, we’re 4 miles in and we’ve burned 12% battery, something like that. That’s always the trade-off with the smaller bikes. You want them to be small and light, so you can’t put a big battery in them. But honestly, this is doing better on range than I expected. So, oh my gosh, dude. Oh my god. Dude, I am freezing my butt off. I cannot wait to get to the park. Uh, folks, I got good news and I got bad news. The good news is we made it to the mountain bike park. The bad news, I fell down in the mud. You know what? We don’t even need to talk about it. There’s nothing really to discuss. I just fell down in the mud. Okay, this does seem like the perfect time for everybody’s favorite part of the video. Interesting things that you might want to know about the Altus Delta if you are considering buying one. It appears that Altus has pre-drilled holes for a foot brake. The brake levers seem to be compatible with UltraB levers. The Delta has single piston brakes, but they’re big enough to stop a Honda Civic. The front sprocket is in front of the swing arm pivot, so you tension the chain like a real dirt bike. The full-length seat is actually longer than an Ultra Beast seat. The seat cover is decent, and the frame has built-in lift handles under the seat that are genuinely comfortable. The underseat storage is surprisingly useful, and this clever latch keeps the battery secure. Most of the time, this threaded system keeps the seat secure, but there’s no way to tighten it or loosen it without making your hands disgusting. If you are interested in getting your own Altus Delta, you can order one right now on revides.com. And make sure to use the code Low Gang to get free bars with your bike. And remember, this uses 7/8 bars. So add this to your cart. Add whatever bars you want to your cart. And then use code Low Gang at checkout. You’re going to get some free bars. Okay. Also, quick reminder, that’s only for the Low Gang. So, you can only use that if you’re subscribed. So, sorry, I don’t make the rules. Okay. All right. Here is my plan. I’m going to start by testing this thing on the pump track. It is raining so hard. Can you see that? But we’re covered under here. Once we warm up here, I’m going to see how it does over there in the crazy muddy abandoned bike park. I’m about 6’3. I tell people I’m 6’4. So, this bike is pretty dang small for me, but at the same time, so is the RTR. And I love that bike. So, ooh, a little kicker jump. That looks so sketchy, dude. This thing is so quick, dude. Dude, this thing actually feels kind of balanced. I was expecting to feel super cramped. And as you guys know, I am not great at jumping bikes. Dude, this is fun. Oh, what was that? Everything okay? Oh my god. What am I doing? How is my Why is my chain so loose? Okay, that’s on me. I don’t know why I didn’t adjust that. Whatever. Dude, this thing has so much acceleration. It’s almost like sketchy. Oh my god. Sketchy coming off the lip. Okay, this is fun. I like this bike. Wa wa. Oh no. Dang. I think the chain is skipping. This one is on me. This is not an Altus. I just didn’t adjust the chain. Oh my. That’s so bad. Everything is as wet as it has ever been, and I really don’t want to mess up these trails even more than they are. So, I’m taking it slow. You guys always ask for updates on the mountain bike park. There’s some great work happening here. People are actually refurbishing a lot of the obstacles. This is the first time I’ve seen any effort been put into this place in the last like 5 years. There are still these crazy abandoned obstacles. No one has hit, I’m sure, since like 2010. Massive roll in right under the freeway into this crazy burm thing. And then you start to see how complicated this place used to be. The idea was to come down there, hit this sketchy wall ride, hit that sketchy wall ride. You got a bunch of super scary drops. And this whole park used to actually go beyond that fence over there. You can see the remnants of a big roll in right there. This place is so awesome. It’s just fallen into crazy disrepair, but I’m really happy that people are actually working on it again. I’ve been out here a bunch of times trying to fix up jumps. Just so you guys know, I do dig here. I promise. It would just be awesome if one day we could get this thing back and running. Wa! Dude, look at that burm to little jump and then a big burm to another jump. Dude, the potential is crazy. How do I get out of here? Hold on. Definitely a benefit of the pit bike size bikes. You can get out of more stupid scenarios, which I feel like is a huge part of what’s so fun about these bikes, you know, getting yourself into stupid scenarios and then hopefully getting back out of them. Let’s go mode three on the dirt. Let’s see how she does. Oh, that’s not good. Oh no. And now it’s raining even harder. And I am miles from home right now. God, why do I do this stuff? This is so stupid. It is really coming down. I need to get home in order to adjust my chain. And I want to charge up the bike to 100 before we do the top speed run. Right now, we are 9.2 mi in. We’ve burned about 23% battery. At that rate, we’re looking at like 30 to 40 mi of range. And that’s like realworld riding. Like I’m not riding around super slow just to save battery. So, if that holds up, that is really good. That is way better than the competition. Now the trick is to get home without uh completely losing my chain or like drowning in a big puddle. I don’t know. It’s raining so hard right now. We did it, guys. We got a day without rain. This is unheard of in Seattle. Perfect time to test the true top speed of the Altus Delta. I am on 99% battery and I got the GPS running in my pocket so we can track the true top speed of this thing. I will say on 100% battery, this thing feels angry. It feels like it’s trying to rip me off the back of the bike. It’s crazy for such a silly small bike. I’m also going to hit the menu button here and bring up top speed and average speed. It says I’ve done 61 mph. I don’t think that’s true. Maybe I like revved the bike or something. I just want to know how accurate the speedometer is on this thing compared to the GPS. Okay, we’re on the top speed course right now, but it seems like a couple cars got on here. Not sure how it’s a close course, but I’m going to let them get a little bit ahead and then we’re going to do it. Okay, here we go. Full throttle. Let’s do it. 53 58 60 61 Oh my gosh. We hit the speed limiter. It wouldn’t go above 62, but it had more power. I could feel it. Holy crap, dude. It is crazy that Altus is limiting the top speed of this thing. Look, I’ll tell you what I’m talking about. Okay. So, if we go to the menu, we can scroll down and hit speed limit. And 99 km an hour is the top speed that it’ll allow you to go. I can adjust it down. I think the idea is like for parents to limit the top speed if they have a younger rider. But look, I’ve maxed it out. 99 km/h. It won’t let you go higher than that. And I could feel it pulling all the way up to 62 mph and then it stopped. The real question is, what did the GPS say? Come on. Show me 62. Come on. 55. Hold on. Hold on. Let’s try it one more time. Going the other way. This feels way faster than 55, but maybe it’s just cuz it’s a small bike. Also, I should mention I’m like 200 lb. I’m not very aerodynamic. You could probably get more top speed than whatever I’m about to do. Oh my gosh, the wind is crazy. We’re going to have to tuck for this one. Tuck it down. Tuck it down. Come on. Oh my gosh. THERE’S JUST TOO MUCH WIND. THERE’S TOO much wind. Let’s see if we got any faster. Still 55 miles an hour. Yo, is that a Suron? Yo, is that a Triple X? Sick. I’m testing a top speed and the wind is like too crazy. I know it’s freezing right now. >> I know. You want to race? >> What? >> You want to race? >> Yeah, sure. >> Really? This is like Altus’ new pit bike. It’s supposed to go like 62. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Come on, Al. Come on. Get me faster. Oh my gosh, bro. Oh my gosh. Sorry. My bad. I wanted to keep going to see if I could get a higher top speed. >> I know, right? Okay, let’s see what the GPS says. Hold on. 56. Bro, we picked up a mile an hour. >> These ones. Yeah, dude. These are like like mega pit bike brakes. They’re single piston, but they’re just like huge. >> Yo, huge shout out to Hank. It was nice to meet you, man. It’s cool to see two bikes that are essentially the exact same cost. He said he got his bike for 3,300 and this costs I think almost exactly that. I’ll have a link down below to check the exact price. I can’t remember right now. The X is a sick bike, but this thing smoked it, dude. They also have roughly the same size battery. So, I’m curious if this bike is going to appeal to people who would otherwise get an RTR or a Taria X. Now, as you guys know, this is not a paid review or anything. They just supplied the bike to review. So, I’m going to give my honest thoughts here. This thing is mega quick and I like the way it looks. It has solid components, really good brakes, and I think it fits me right out of the box a little bit better than an RTR. However, competition in this price bracket is heating up, and we’re getting more and more bikes in the Suron size category compared to this pit bike size. Now, I think the pit bikes are super fun, but a lot of people are looking for something that’s a little bit bigger than a pit bike. My point is, I think in the pit bike category, you can’t get much better than this. The RTR is up there, but they’re in slightly different categories. I think its real competition is going to be in the Suriron size category where someone might be able to spend exactly this amount of money and get a bike that’s a little bit more ergonomic, a little bit bigger, is easier to jump, has more aftermarket support. But right now, I feel like if I could only keep two bikes, it would be my Ultra B and maybe this. And that’s saying a lot. Oh, and maybe my E-IDE. Wait, I’m going to have to think about this. Anyway, my point is uh in the bit by category, I don’t think anything’s beating this.
