The Evolution of Mustang GT3 | Ford Racing
Developing a car is special. We put miles on, we give feedback, and we push the car to its limits. If we don’t do this, the races don’t matter. Great thing is can always be better. This now is a real honed car and all these improvements are coming together and make one really competitive package. An Eva package is an evolution of of the current car that we have. So, it’s an improvement, let’s say. So, we’re polishing up a lot of the areas that we’ve found over the last two years. Changing a lot of the geometry on the front and rear suspension. Um, couple of arrow upgrades. Evo is an opportunity to apply everything we’ve learned over the last, you know, 2 or 3 years of developing the car. >> That’s what we’re doing here today at Sebring. >> I think this track is is very unique. It’s very tough for the material. So, it has been used since many, many years from different brands to make sure the car is reliable and the new parts are sticking on the car. We come here really to try to break things. I think it’s probably the roughest, most troublesome place that you can go to. >> Sea ring is a harsh environment. If you can do a 12-hour seing, you can do a 24-hour anywhere. 2025 we’ve been gaining a lot of traction and winning some races. So just been really really good this year. >> We’ve seen so many substantial wins. You look at you know overall and class wins at the Nurburg Ring one the most iconic tracks in the world. You come to the factory team here with IMSA winning in Daytona, Detroit and Indie in the same year. A win at the Daytona 24 is a a highlight win for any program. You know, that’s one of the things when we start development, that’s one of the big ones we circle. >> We won Indie just last weekend, which for me was a great one. But I think our first win Detroit always a great great place to win. You know, pretty much the home of Ford there. >> My best memory I think was the Detroit victory. >> That was a dream really for me to win there. It’s one of my career highlights. I would say >> it was a special moment and I really enjoyed that. My best memory I would say obviously is winning Daytona. Kicking it off with a win in Daytona in my first race as a fulltime ISA driver was incredible. Daytona 24 hours this year. So I think that’s that’s a huge milestone for the program. >> We proved that the Mustang can win races uh even the biggest races in the world. We’ve never stopped developing. We’re always learning. and being able to take the culmination of all those things we’ve learned, everything we’ve developed, put into one package that we can deliver to our customers, it just means that the Mustang is going to continue to fight, continue to win, and we want to give our customers and our our teams the best chance to win on every single weekend. I mean, we are competitive. We are winning races, right? So, it’s not like something is completely wrong, but there’s always small details to improve. We struggle a little bit with braking and the way the car behaves on the braking to control that I think is quite important. When you have a good base, it’s like in every detail you you improve. And uh you know GT racing you have such a small window and uh everybody’s so competitive. So you basically have to kind of turn every screw you can to make it better. You know every little helps in racing. If it’s a tenth there, you know 2/10 there, that helps a lot, right? You know, 210 every corner, let’s say, or I can add up to a second, right? So it all it takes is little margins. And I think this car is definitely an improvement over the last one. >> What we tend to miss is downforce. One of the big things is is arrow, but trying to to improve our braking. Uh our general balance. We’re touching on really all the major parts of the car here on the Evo, right? We’ve got some updates on the brake package. Uh the arrow is is probably the most visual upgrade you can see on the car. Uh putting some more aggressive dive planes on, some more front downforce. We learned a lot about this car, the sensitivities of the car and how it behaves differently under braking or under corner exit or corner entry. We saw a lot of challenges in those conditions and started working hard to rectify that within the homologation rules. One of the key things that I first noticed at a wind tunnel test was the sensitivity to the front ride height of the car. As you go into a corner and you’re braking, your nose is lowering closer to the ground and the splitter stops working as good as it should be. It also gets too low to the ground and it chokes the flow to the diffuser. What we wanted to do with the Evo was we wanted to bring a new splitter to the car and add some dive planes. Hopefully this new splitter doesn’t choke the flow to the diffuser as much. And then we also relying on the dive planes a bit more to generate the downforce on the front of the car so that we don’t have that front balance shift be as drastic under braking. We’re testing new rims out as well, which for me is one of the biggest factors I think cuz a stiffer rim is gives you more um lateral load and you can put more load through the tire and and the rim. So for me that was one of my like okay I felt that changes this weekend. some other little small parts. Uh alternator, lights, just bit more of an endurance package. >> The drivers big driving force behind it. They’re very sensitive to little things. So, we can really get an idea of where we need to go in the direction of evolution. You know, everybody has kind of a different background. You just give the feedback what you feel and and what the car does and what you think what you need to go faster. What’s the biggest problem of the car and you kind of try to steer the ship and the team in that direction. >> Yeah. And Evo package is based on on what the feedback is of the drivers of the the weak areas of the car where we think we can improve. >> We put miles on, we give feedback, and we push the car to its limits. >> The Mustang VT3 Evo will debut the Daytona 24. I’m really excited to see, you know, where we take it in 226 and how things continue to grow.
The evolution of the Mustang GT3 harnesses the unmistakable spirit of an American Icon and 60-plus years of rich racing heritage. It returns to grids worldwide in 2026 — sharpened, unbridled and ready to win.
