GM Is Dumping Them! $30,000 Off GM’s Huge Electric Van!

Boy, guys, I would love one of these. I know it sounds kind of corny and ridiculous, but you guys know I want an MPV. This thing would be the ultimate MPV. And the thing is, General Motors are offering up to, I think, $27,000 discounts, right? Um, you can get a Bright Drop 400 van for under $40,000. That is that is a really good deal. Um, some Bright Drop 400 vans are listed at over $28,000 off MSRP. There’s not a lot of advertising for this, so it’s the sort of thing where I thought, you know, I’ve got to do a video on this to let people know because you might miss out and then find out in a few months and go, I would have bought one of those if I’d known about that. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you with us. I’m Sam Evans. After a kind of a difficult roll out, General Motors announced plans to end production of the Bright Drop van, which they didn’t do much advertising or marketing for at all. I just didn’t see much of it at all. The announcement was made in October, so dealers are selling off stock quite cheaply. So, Car Scoop says that they first noticed this when they saw that there was a Bright Drop van being sold at 22,000 below MSRP in the dealer. And that’s a pretty big discount, but um other people have gotten bigger discounts than that. The Bright Drop 400, people have seen these for as cheap as $39,995. It’s $40,000 or $28,315 off MSRP. Um, guys, that’s so cheap. That’s the same price as a Tesla Model Y standard, and it’s better than a 14 Transit cargo. So, there’s heaps of deals for these all across the United States. I’m not going to even go through them, but there’s there’s listings for them all around the US. I highly recommend having a look at them. So, let’s have an actual look at what you get for that $40,000. There’s two models. There’s the Bright Drop 400 and the Bright Drop 600. You can either get frontwheel drive or all-wheel drive. Uh power is 300 horsepower and 390 lb feet of torque. So, this thing’s got plenty of power. Range is 177 mi EPA. That’s the combined range. The max available range, General Motor says, is 272 mi. which is 440 km. DC fast charging is not great. It’s 120 kW, but um you know this is still an very affordable vehicle. Now cargo volume in the standard 400 series it’s 412 cubic feet. So that’s a pretty big space, right? If you get the 600, you’ve got 614.7 cubic feet. Max payload is pretty impressive as well. It’s 1,683 kg, which is 3,710 lb. Gross vehicle weight is £9,990, but you can option it to get a gross vehicle weight of £11,000. Now, the Bright Drop vans are built on GM’s dedicated Ultium EV platform, and it allows for a low center of gravity. These these vans would be much nicer to drive than an internal combustion van. The most common configuration, guys, for this van has a 121 kWh battery. That’s a big battery. That’s the standard range version. You can upgrade though to the max range battery which going to give you more range. Right? That’s the one that gives you 273 miles. That’s a 173 kWh battery and up to 179.8 kw hours total battery size. So massive massive battery pack. If you can get one of those for affordable price, say you know $50,000, you’re getting you’re basically getting you’re paying for the batteries and the rest of the vehicle is free. I mean, $50,000 for a 180 kWh battery, that’s about right. Yeah, you’re getting a free vehicle essentially. So, this is an amazing deal. And honestly, if this this had seats in it and you could buy these in Australia, I’d be I’d be having a look. I’d be having a good look. Guys, what do you think? Let me know. Thanks for watching. the head of Mitsubishi, he’s just said over the weekend that Australians don’t want EVs. And I’m not making this up whatsoever. He says Australians do not want EVs. And he claims Mitsubishi has been forced into selling them, even though they don’t sell any right now at all, as in zero. He says Mitsubishi has been forced into selling them by the government. But like I said, Australians, he says, don’t want them and aren’t ready for them. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching The Electric Viking. Mitsubishi, right? They’re going to bring an EV to a few different countries around the world. It’s going to be made um in Taiwan, I believe. And it won’t be a Mitsubishi. basically Mitsubishi going to get a contract manufacturer to make this car because they don’t have the funds to invest to build their own EV. So, if you still think Mitsubishi are safe and won’t potentially be another Nissen, then you’ve got to think very seriously about this issue because Mitsubishi, their new EV, isn’t coming until late 2026. It’s going to be made by Foxtron. So, if you get a contract manufacturer in Taiwan who doesn’t really make cars to make a car for you, how good is that car really going to be? Mitsubishi says the introduction of the vehicle efficiency standard in Australia means it has to bring out an EV. Mitsubishi Australia’s general manager uh Bruce Hample said the brand’s position on electric cars is that the local market is unprepared and unwilling to adopt EVs. He said, “We don’t believe Australia is ready or the Australian customer is pulling for EVs at this point in time.” What do you guys think about this? I’m curious to know really what people honestly think because Chinese EV companies clearly disagree with Mitsubishi. I mean, we have Arc Fox are coming to Australia. We have Neo coming to Australia. We even have Lucid coming to Australia. Uh we have many brands now. We have more than 130 different models of EVs, more than the United States has, and we’re a much smaller car market. So, the Chinese car brands clearly think Mitsubishi is completely wrong. But here’s what Mitsubishi said. It’s predominantly hindered by the lack of infrastructure. So, Mitsubishi says because of a lack of infrastructure in Australia, Australians don’t want EVs. Now, just going to tell Mitsubishi this because they’re not aware. I personally and thousands and thousands of Australians have driven across long distances across Australia. Uh I’ve done at least 40,000 km of EV only driving. Uh going from places like Brisbane all the way down to Melbourne. That’s several thousand km. Guess what? Uh I made it. It’s all okay. The infrastructure was okay. Infrastructure is better. It’s getting better. But I made it. It wasn’t an issue. And the truth is that even though I do these long trips, and most of you I know do some of these occasional long trips, 98% of the driving we do is not a long trip. So 98% of the time we just charge at home. We use our solar, we use our batteries, we use, you know, home charges and it’s brilliant. You don’t have to go to a petrol station, a gas station, which is just a major pain in the ass. Solar and batteries. I’ve got a 50 kWh battery here and I’ve got a big solar array. So, I pay $0 for electricity. That’s including charging my electric car. Reync Solar is the company that I used. I’ll put a link to them in the description below. It’s so much cheaper as well. We’ve always been a firm believer that the plug-in hybrid technology is the good bridging gap, said Mitsubishi. As people adopt into a full electrified vehicle where they can get the best of both worlds, 80% of their usage of the vehicle can be conducted in full EV mode.
