300 MILE EV WAR! Subaru’s New Electric SUV Undercuts Tesla & Toyota on Price
Subaru have just revealed the pricing for their Uncharted electric car. That’s what it’s called, Uncharted. It’s a quite a good price actually. $35,000. Um, would you consider buying one? Maybe. I mean, let’s have a look at the details, the size of this car, the range range will be pretty good actually, and try and work out whether or not this is worth putting on the short list. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. Great to have you with us. Subaru’s Uncharted EV. We know the price price is actually not bad. We know it’s got more than 300 miles of EPA range. Probably honestly, from the numbers I can see, about 600 km of WLTP range, and at under $35,000, it seems like pretty good value. Now, that’s of course US pricing. The 2026 Uncharted Subaru EV will join the Nissan Leaf, the Toyota BZ, Hyundai 5, and Chevy Equinox as one of the few new EVs on sale in the US for less than $35,000. That said, though, it’s got more range than those cars, those cheap models of the cheap versions of those cars. It will be the most affordable electric vehicle in Subaru’s lineup starting at a price of $34,995. The Uncharted will be available in three different versions or trims as you guys say in the US. There’ll be the premium front-wheel drive, the sport, and the GT. Subaru said the entry-level uncharted premium front-wheel drive variant. Frontwheel drive? I mean, what? Hang on a minute. Subaru’s always been all-wheel drive for everything. Yeah, that’s changing. So, the premium frontwheel drive version will be offered in limited numbers. Power 221 horsepower and it has a 74.4 kWh battery pack providing over 300 mi of EPA range. That ends up being probably around about 600 km WLTP. Considering this car is smaller than the Subaru Sulttera, which has 590 km WLTP, that seems right. That said, um, Subaru’s WLTP range and Toyota’s WLTP range for their cars is kind of ridiculous and not even remotely achievable, but its EPA range is realistic. You will get more than 300 mi. All versions of this car use the same 74.7 kW battery. So, let’s just say 75 kWh battery, but the Sport and the GT will have less range because they are all-wheel drive. They got Subaru’s symmetrical allhe drive which does reduce driving range a little bit. The Sport gets 285 mi EPA which is I think achievable and the GT gets 270 mi. Now the reasons for the range reduction are not just because of the extra motor in the back. I mean that does help. I mean, it does I mean, it does make a difference to decreasing the range, but the other differences are they have a higher ride height. So, Subaru’s all-wheel drive vehicles always have a higher ride height than their non- all-wheel drive vehicles. I think the ride height is about 60 mm more, about just over 2 in higher than the front-wheel drive version. Plus, they have bigger wheels. So, the combination of that higher ride height and the bigger wheels means that yeah, quite a bit less range. The allhe drive versions though get 338 horsepower and Subaru says this is more than the Hyundai Kona EV and the Kia Nero EV. Obviously it is. I’m not sure why that’s a big deal but anyway like the 2026 Trail Seeker and the Subaru Sulttera, the Uncharted EV has a battery preconditioning system that boosts charging performance in cold weather. Charging speeds 150 kW DC. Not great to be honest for a 2026 model, but yeah, it’s okay. You can recharge Subaru claims from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes. 2026 Subaru Uncharted EV models get a built-in Tesla Knack charging port, NACS, which means you’ve got access to 25,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States. The Uncharted, what about the dimensions? It’s 7 in shorter than the Subaru Sultterra, but it does have 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. Now, let’s have an actual look at the exact dimensions. It’s um slightly smaller than a Kia EV6. So, 4,520 mm long, which is 177.9 in, let’s just say 178 in. Width is 1,870 mm, which is 74 in. And the height is 1,695 mm, which is 61.8 in. Wheelbase 2750 mm, which is 108.3 in. Ground clearance is 8.3 in with the symmetrical allwheel drive. Now, on the inside, you get a 14-in touchscreen with wireless, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. And 0 to 100 or 0 to 60 mph happens in 5 seconds, which is yeah, not bad. Um, it’s I believe actually maybe the fastest Subaru that they’ve ever made, possibly. Guys, I am personally with Powers Shop for my EV electricity plan. I pay no electricity cost from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. every day on the EV day saver plan. Now, if you’re a new customer, you can get a $100 signup credit when you make the switch to them. And if you sign up with my referral link, you can also get an additional $75 in credit. So, that means you end up with $175 in credit if you choose the Powershop EV charging plan. Check out my referral link in the description for details. Let’s have a look at the actual features, though. All right. Starting at $35,000, the entry- level premium frontwheel drive includes eyesight driver assist features such as pre-colision braking, front cross traffic alert, blind spot monitors, lane departure alert, emergency stop assist, advanced adaptive cruise control, and a distraction mitigation system. The prices, the Uncharted Sport allwheel drive is $39,795. So, it’s an an additional $5,000 for the all-wheel drive. Uncharted GT is $43,800, which is kind of getting up there in price. I’m not sure that that’s going to be competitive considering a Tesla Model Y long range is $45,000. So, only $1,000 more. And you can get that uh 6 years, 0% interest for 6 years, means it’s cheaper than the Uncharted GT. Anyway, of course, some people are big Subaru fans, so they wouldn’t care what a Tesla costs. Eco and snow drive modes are standard, plus an all-w weather package is included with heated front seats. Uh, I don’t believe ventilation though, heated power exterior mirrors and windshield wiper deicer. So, when will this car come? Well, apparently it’s going to be arriving in dealerships across the United States in early 2026. I’m going to guess probably around about February or March from what I’ve been hearing. Is this car worth considering? I think it actually is. It’s not bad. I mean, would I personally buy one? No. I don’t really like the look of it. But that coupe shape, which in my opinion looks a bit weird. It is good for aerodynamics. Yeah, Subaru’s cars, the Sulttera is a brick. It has terrible aerodynamics in comparison to other cars like um, for example, a Model Y or an Xpang G6. So, making it shaped more like a coupe at the back definitely is a big advantage for adding more range. So, I reckon this car is actually not bad value for money considering the base model. Yeah, $35,000 gets a 75 kWh battery. That’s actually a pretty good deal. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.
