Trek is issuing a voluntary safety recall for select 2026 model year e-road and e-gravel bikes. As far as recalls go, this one is important but also seems like a relatively easy fix. Trek is asking riders to immediately stop riding any of those bikes until the problem is fixed, though.

Domane+ ALR and Checkpoint+ SL at issue

The recall includes 2026 Domane+ ALR and Checkpoint+ SL e-bikes. The USCPSC notice says about 700 units could be impacted. Not all bikes of those models are impacted. Owners can check whether or not their bike is included in the recall by checking their serial number in Trek’s recall look-up tool.

Trek is recalling the e-bikes because the chainring bolts were not tightened to specification during assembly. As a result, bolts can loosen while riding causing the chainring to fall off. That, for obvious reasons, would be a bad thing.

The recall applies to the following e-bike models (Model Year 2026 only):
• Domane+ ALR 5
• Domane+ ALR 6 AXS
• Checkpoint+ SL 6
• Checkpoint+ SL 7

The Fix

The fix for this issue is relatively straightforward. Take your bike to any Trek authorised retailer to have the repair performed, free of charge. Bolts must be tightened to 10 Nm each. To encourage owners to bring their bike in instead of trying to fix it yourself, Trek is offering a CAD $26 (USD 20) in-store credit towards any Trek, Electra, or Bontrager merchandise.

More information is available in Trek’s Recall FAQ or official recall notice. There’s also the USCPSC recall page. While Trek includes a CAD value for their apology credit, implying that some of these bikes might be sold in Canada, Health Canada has not issued a recall of its own as of time of writing.

This latest Trek recall follows closely on the heels of another, larger recall from the brand. Earlier this fall, Trek recalled numerous children’s bikes and two Electra beach cruiser models due to a risk that the coaster brake could fail.
