2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid – All Trims Explained {Range, MPG, hybrid vs plug-in hybrid]
Hello everyone, welcome back to the channel. Hope you are having a great day. In this video, I will explain all the trims of the 2026 Toyota Ray 4 plug-in hybrid car. So without further delay, let’s get started. First of all, let me quickly tell you the difference between the RAV 4 hybrid and the plug-in hybrid models. If you look at the biggest difference between the two models, the first difference you will see is in the horsepower. The hybrid model can range from 226 to 236. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid is around 324 horsepower. The next major difference is in the electric only drive. The hybrid has a value of 2 to 3 m only and the plug-in hybrid can go up to 52 mi on the battery. That’s a big difference. Furthermore, in the hybrid models, you can only charge while driving. And in the plug-in, you can also have the uh level two and the DC fast charging options. The PHEV models may qualify for federal and state incentive and they are all AWD configuration only. In the hybrid, you have both the FWD as well as AWD. So, that’s a big difference. The plug-in hybrid has slightly less cargo space due to larger batteries. That’s another difference. But these are the most common difference between the two models. Now, let us look at the variants of the plug-in hybrid models. You have the SE, which is the performance value. It is the starting point of the car. Um, it has 324 horsepower and 52 mi electric range. The Woodland is the adventure ready car. This is the off-road version of this model. It has 49 mi electric range and a factory tow hitch. The GR Sport is best for performance. It is a track inspired styling uh red brakes clippers. It is a track it has a track inspired styling. It has sport suspension and a 48 mi electric range. And finally, you have the XSE, which is a premium performance car. It has a luxury features, 52 mi electric range, and a DC fast charging. All models here are AWD only, and all of them has a towing capacity of 3,500 lb except the GR Sport, which we will talk about later. If you look at the quick specification which are common across all these trims, you have a 2.5 L engine with dual electric motors, 324 horsepower combined, which means both the gas motor as well as the electric. Um, you have electronic AWD, 22.7 battery and 10 years or 150,000 mi battery warranty along with front and rear parking assist. And if you look at the features that changes across the trims, you have the electric range, the charging capability, ground clearance, interior and exterior styling. The charging capability is basically 7 versus 11 kW. If you look at the power and performance of the plug-in hybrid models, you have the acceleration which goes from 0 to 60 around 5.7 seconds estimated. Um, it is much quicker than the regular hybrid and it has a sports car-like acceleration. The electric motors in the front are 203 horsepower and in the rear you have 91 pounds free torque. This car has a instant torque delivery. And if you look at the driving modes available, you have the EV mode, the HV mode, which is the hybrid mode, and the trail mode is for woodland off-road uh frame only. And finally, you have the sport mode. This car is actually faster than many performance SUVs in this segment. Next up, let’s look at the electric range and the charging of the plug-in hybrid. If you look at the SE and XSSE models, you have up to 52 mi and this is best for daily commuting and has a mileage of 107 MPG. The woodland can go up to 49 mi and it is slightly reduced due to the weight and the tires the configuration and has a range of about 101 MPG. And finally the GR Sport you have up to 48 mi and it is a performance focused setup with 98 MPG. The actual range of course vise with the weather speed and driving style. Next up, let’s look at the charging capabilities of the plug-in hybrid. You have two tiers here. The basic charging which is available in SE and GR sport and the advanced charging which is available in the Woodland and XSE models. The port available for the basic charging is J1772 which is standard and in the advanced charging you have CCS1. The onboard charger for the basic is 7 kilow and for the advanced you have 11 kW. The level two charge time for the basic is 3.5 hours and for the advanc you have around 2.5 hours. The charging time there’s no fast DC charger for the basic charging but you have the DC fast charge available in the advanced models and that will take you around 35 minutes from 10 to uh 80%. Now let us look at the features of each trim one by one. Starting with the SE model. This is available in AWT configuration only. And if you look at the features of this car, you have the 324 horsepower and 32 mi range in the electric. You have 18in black sports wheel. You have fabric or softax heated seats. You have an eight-way power driver seat, a 10.5 in touchscreen, six speaker audio, power lift gate, leather steering wheel, all safety features. And this car is best for firsttime hybrid buyers, the plug-in hybrid buyers. This is good for daily commuters who drive under 50 mi and those who wants power on budget. If you look at the charging features, you have J1772 port, you have 7 kW onboard charger, you have 3.5 hour level two charge. If you look at the missing features of the SE model, you don’t have uh DC fast charging. You don’t have 11 kW fast charging. You don’t have premium audio, ventilated seats, or a larger touch screen. You don’t have a 360 camera or hands-free lift gate as well. Next up, let’s look at the Woodland Edition. This is your adventure plug-in hybrid car. And this is also AWD configuration only. If you look at the features of the Woodland Edition, you have an all-terrain tires. You have 8.5 in ground clearance. You have integrated LED fog lights, factory tow hitch, unique 18-inch matte gray wheels, woodland roof rails and crossbars, all weather floor mats, cargo liners, orange interior accent, and a 120 watt AC outlet in cargo. If you talk about the off-road specification of the Woodland model, you have a length of 182 in. You have width of 74, the ground clearance of 8.5 in, approach angle of 20°, and departure angle of 24. You have a towing capacity of 3,500 lb. This car is best for outdoor enthusiast, weekend warriors, light off-road use, tailored towers, and snowy rough terrain drivers. If you look at the charging capacity of this car, you have a CCS1 port with DC fast charging. You have 11 kW onboard charger and a 2.5 hour level two or 35minut DC fast charging. The electric range of this car is 49 mi and MPG value of 101. The towing capacity is similar 3,500 lb. Next up we have the GR Sport. One of the most popular uh trim in this segment. The GR Sport is with sporty styling element and it is only AWD configuration. If you look at the features of this car, you have a 20-in black alloy wheels. You have high performance summer tires. You have red painted brake calipers. You have a GRing on the grill and the rear. You have GR functional matrix grill and a GR design front bumper as well. Furthermore, you have a GR rear spoiler with piano black color, a white piano black over fenders, and a vertical LED accent lights. It also has the lowest profile in the lineup. If you look at the interior features, you have a red interior stitching throughout the entire design. You have a leather heated steering wheel with GR logo. You have GR branded front door scuff plates. You have GR branded headrest and you also have a leather shift boot. Apart from this, you have a sports paddle shifter. The sports paddle are actually aluminum. You also have a 12.9 in touchscreen. What makes this trim actually unique is the ground clearance of 7.5 in only which is the lowest in the lineup and it has the better handling and the aerodynamics among all the models. It has a sports tuned suspension feel, electric range of 48 mi, 12.9 in touchscreen, auto dimming mirror with home link, an optional digital rearview mirror and optional headsup display and the focus is on performance here not the utility. The most important thing is that this is not built for towing, right? So the towing is not recommended for the GR Sport trim. If you are looking for utility in your car, this is not the model for you. This car is best for driving enthusiast, those who want sporting styles, those who want performance over utility, and those who need a track day capability in their car. And this car is not for off-roading, towing trailers, and the maximum cargo needs. This is built for performance and sports. So yeah, as far as the sportiest RAV 4 goes, this is the model and it is the most aggressive design with the most aggressive features. Next up, we have the XSE model, which is the premium performance trim of the plug-in hybrid. This is also AWD only. And if you look at the features, you have a 20-in black sport multis-spoke wheels. You have a vertical LED bumper lights, a piano black heated mirror with puddle lights. You have a dark chrome accent, optional two-tone paints as well, and a hands-free power lift gate. If you look at the charging options here, you have a CCS1 port with DC fast charging. You have 11 kW onboard charger and a fastest charging in the lineup. The range of this model, this trim is 52 mi. If you look at the interior features of this car, you have a softex synthetic pseudo combo. You have heated and ventilated front up to three levels. You have 8way power driver plus passenger. You have the memory function as well. And you have a blue interior stitching. In terms of technology, it has 12.9 in touchscreen, the largest in the segment. the optional nine speaker JBL premium audio, the optional digital rear view mirror, optional head-up display, and the single wireless charging. It also has the optional toggle shift by wire. The model comes with panoramic view monitor with 360deree camera standard. This car is best for those who wants to uh get all the features, those who are a daily commuters, any tech enthusiast and those who want luxury as well as performance and also those who wants the maximum charging speed. Now let us do a side-by-side comparison of all the models. First let’s look at the key specification. In terms of power, all the models are same. The electric range is same for SE and XSSE model but the woodland has 49 and GR sport has uh 48. The MPG value has the lowest value in the GR sport and the highest in SE and XSSE. The woodland is uh in the center. For the wheels, we have SE and woodland with the 18in and GR Sport and XSE with 20in. The tires are uh standard in the SE all train and woodland because this is a off-road summer performance in the GR Sport and standard in XSE as well. The G1772 charging port is available in SE and GR Sport. On the other hand, the Woodland and XSSE has a CCS1. These models also has the uh DC fast charging, but SE and GR Sport doesn’t have them. In terms of charging, the woodland and XSSE has the shortest time in the level two and the DC fast is good for woodland and the XSE. There is no DC fast in the SE and GR sport. In the next slide, you will look at the economy of the cars, the models uh for the MPG as well as simple gas engine values. You can see that the SE is the best model in this class and the GR Sport has the least MPG values. In terms of cost saving, you can see that data in this uh table. So, if you are driving less than 50 mi, you will never have to buy gas. The typical annual saving with the plug-in hybrid, you can get up to $1,500 to $2,000 per year. If you look at the interior space, you can look at the data in this table. There’s slight difference with or without the moon roof. As you can see in the next table, you can see the technology comparison. The audio has a better option in the XSSE model where you can get up to nine speakers. The XSSE model has all the features. The next table shows the exterior styling difference. And finally, you can see the daily driving cost analysis in this table. This table is based on 50 mi uh daily commute distance.
