Officials praised a quick-thinking state trooper and “numerous unidentified Good Samaritans” after their speedy actions saved the life of a man trapped in a burning car as winter weather hit Virginia on Friday, December 5.
According to Virginia State Police, 34-year-old Tesla driver Foday Kanu had gone off the road and crashed into a tree off northbound Interstate 95 amid the snowy weather on Friday morning. Virginia State Police Sergeant S Page stopped near the 111-mile marker to check on the driver when the Tesla Model Y caught fire. The doors and windows would not open, police said.
Page smashed one of the Tesla’s windows, cut through a deployed airbag, and pulled Kanu safely out of the car with the help of passersby.
