A Tesla crash in Virginia left Foday Kanu, 34, hospitalized after his vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.

WASHINGTON — A man is in the hospital recovering from serious injuries after crashing his car into a tree.

On Friday, a Virginia State Trooper and several Good Samaritans helped rescue Foday Kanu, 34, of Upper Marlboro from his burning Tesla. The crash occurred at 7 a.m. on I-95 in Caroline County.

According to police, the 2024 Tesla went off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Sergeant S. Page was driving along the interstate and stopped to check on the driver, just as the car caught fire. The doors to the car were locked and wouldn’t open.

Page ultimately had to break the window and cut the airbag, to save Kanu. He then checked the car for any additional occupants. Kanu was the only one inside.

He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.

As troopers continue to investigate the crash, they believe the cause could have something to do with Friday’s snowy conditions.
