HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) — A head-on collision in Harnett County on Saturday claimed the life of one person and left several others injured.
The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on US Highway 301 near Hodges Chapel Road, south of Benson near the Johnston County line.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), a Dodge pickup and a Tesla were involved in the crash, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage. The pickup ended up in the middle of the road, while the Tesla came to rest off the roadway.
Authorities say a woman driving southbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with the pickup. The impact caused the truck to flip onto its side, trapping a father and son inside. The passenger, Danny Wood, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his son, the driver, remains in critical condition at WakeMed.
The Tesla driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Two children in the Tesla were also taken to the hospital for evaluation but are expected to recover.
Charges are pending against the Tesla driver as the investigation continues. Her identity has not been released yet.
