LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County officials have launched a new campaign aimed at promoting e-bike and e-scooter safety, as injuries related to the devices have shot to nearly 200 in 2025.
The video features Dr. Seth Ball, a pediatric emergency medicine physician at UMC Children’s Hospital, detailing the injuries he has seen related to e-bikes and e-scooters, calling them “heartbreaking and preventable.”
“We see kids with head injuries, broken bones, and tragically, some injuries are so severe we see fatalities,” Ball said before providing tips for parents who have children riding the devices.
Ball advises parents to ensure their children wear helmets at all times while riding e-bikes and e-scooters. Additionally, he notes that riders should obey all rules of the road, including traffic laws and speed limits, and avoid stunts, jumps and wheelies.
“It’s easy to lose control and hurt yourself or someone else,” Ball said. “Never ride double on an e-bike or e-scooter unless it’s built for two.”
In a news release announcing the campaign, Justin Jones, Clark County commissioner, said the electric vehicles aren’t toys but powerful transportation.
“The injuries we’re seeing are preventable,” Jones said. “That’s why we passed new safety rules: to protect everyone on the road and to ensure that riders, pedestrians, and drivers can all share our streets safely. Awareness is the first step to saving lives.”
The release noted that ordinance violations start at $150 for a first violation and can reach $600 for repeat violations.
