The Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) cares about the safety of all citizens who use our roadways and trails to commute and for recreation.

In Arizona, electric, motorized, and gas-powered bicycles are considered regular bicycles as long as they are under 750 watts (class 1 or 2 e-bikes) or have an engine at 48cc or less (gas-powered). These bikes have a top propulsion speed of 20 miles per hour.
You don’t need a license to operate these bikes. You do not need to have them registered, titled, or insured. All bikes that meet these criteria are approved to operate on bike paths. Every electric bike is required to have a manufacturer-installed label indicating its class, top speed, and wattage.
Class 3 electric bikes operate over 750 watts and have top propulsion speeds of over 28 mph. These bikes cannot be used on bike paths and are designed for off-road use only. Electric motorcycles that have an operating power above 750 watts and are designed for off-road purposes cannot be operated on any roadway or bike path. Like class 1 and 2 electric bikes, these bikes do not need a license to operate. They do not need to be titled, registered, or insured.
Many of our multi-use paths are also heavily used by pedestrians and skaters as well as bicyclists. It is important for everyone’s safety that those who use these paths learn and follow the rules of the road. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at 928-772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies. Yavapai County Silent Witness is 1-800-932-3232.
