Porsche Cayenne Electric – The most powerful production Porsche | Walkaround | Autocar India
So here it is the Porsche Cayenne electric which makes its public appearance here at the icons of Porsche in Dubai. Now this is a massive massive moment for Porsche because this EV comes at a time when EVs globally haven’t taken off and especially for Porsche. EVs in a way has been the brand’s undoing, but Porsche has thrown everything it possibly can into their flagship EV. The headline numbers are 1,156 horsepower, a 0 to 100 time of 2.5 seconds. That is bang in supercar territory. In fact, this is more like a supercar wrapped in an SUV. Now prices for the Cayenne electric have been announced in India. The base Cayenne electric is 1.76 crores and the Ken electric turbo that’s really the headline one that is 2.26 crores. But even the base electric and a 0 to 100 time of under 5 seconds. mighty mighty quick. Now, let’s take a look at the design of the Cayen Electric. Well, as you can see, it’s retained the silhouette, but really kind of redesigned it for the EV error. And make no mistake, this is an EV, and you know that by the complete blanked off grill over here, though, you do have large intakes at the bottom. And that’s because you have to cool that massive 103 kWh battery. a lot of gloss black cladding over here. So really, this is really the new trend. And if you see these massive, massive 22-in wheels, you get a range between 20 and 22in wheels really filling the wheel arches. And from the side, it’s pretty much Cayenne, but as you can see, it is longer. It has a massive wheelbase, 130 mm longer, so that points to extra room, but of course longer wheel bases also mean it can take a bigger battery. Now, let’s take a look at the rear. So, at the rear, you can see there’s a full width uh LED light strip over here. And what’s nice is the way the Porsche lettering is illuminated. Nice contrast, a lot of horizontal elements over here. You can see again gloss black. And again, you’ve got these vertical air intakes. So again, unmistakably a Cayenne, but as I said earlier, it’s been tweaked. It’s been given that slightly futuristic look for the EVH. So, it’s in the cabin that things get really next gen. And I think the talking point is this curved or even bent front screen. uh a 14.5 in screen portrait layout. Uh you can either have it full or you can even change it. So it’s amazing. You can have it either split or have it as a full screen. You’ve got uh 14.25 driver display. Again, very curved, everything digital. And you’ve got a 14.9 in third passenger screen. So really a lot of screens over here. But Porsche has kept a lot of physical buttons for key controls like the air con. And that’s really fantastic. And you’ve got all the other goodies. Uh ventilated seats, of course, wireless charging. You’ve got a trick uh moon sunroof over here, which dims in nine segments. So, it’s got photo photochromatic roof. And you’ve got a choice of two sound systems, Bose or Harmon. Now, really, let’s talk a little bit about the charging. This is the next level of EV architecture. It supports up to 400 kW of charging. So 10 to 80% in just 16 minutes. Now that is super quick. Range 620 km and really that is more than what you would need. The Cayenne Electric is also the first Porsche ever to offer 11 kW wireless charging. So, no more cables, just park over the charging pad and it tops up on its own. So, really Porsche trying to make this Cayenne as practical as possible. Talking about, let’s say, practicality, a 90 L frunk, 730 L boot. And let’s check out the back where I think the leg room is definitely up thanks to that 130 mm wheelbase. And yes, the leg room definitely has increased. Uh sense of space is absolutely fantastic. What I really like is the fact that uh the window line is quite low over here and uh you even have sunblinds which is so important now in the Indian context. Yes, sun blinds uh which is the new sunroof as we say. So really a very very comfortable seat I think. In fact, dare I say this car wouldn’t be too bad chauffeer driven uh except when you get these crazy bursts of acceleration which will push your head back into a very soft headrest.
The Porsche Cayenne has gone electric and the performance numbers are good enough to shame even hypercars. Hormazd Sorabjee gets a quick peek at Icons of Porsche in Dubai.
