BYD’s New Blade Battery V2, 1,000V Platform & 1,000 kW Charging ONLY $27,000
Okay, my friends, credit where credit is due. BYD’s new Han L sedan is pretty damn good for the price. It is actually incredible. And really, it’s the first time in quite a while where I’ve said, you know, BYD brought out a car that the masses can afford which has state-of-the-art technology. And it really does have some impressive, impressive tech, this car. Here’s what it’s got. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching The Electric Viking. YouTube’s new algorithm means that you’re often not getting all of our videos in your feed. There’s 7,500. I’m pretty sure you’re probably not seeing a lot of them. In the description, there is a link to our newsletter. Click on that and you can get an update every day of all the latest news in the electric car industry. The Bib Han L, it has 701 km of range. does 2.7 seconds 0 to 100 and cost $27,000 and it’s got a 1,000 volt architecture as well. I mean, yeah. So, the Han L right 700 km of range and that’s CLTC. So, you’re probably talking about 600 km WLTP. It’s 27,400. The most expensive version though is $37,000 and it has some actually pretty impressive self-driving features thanks to its tieup with uh well other companies anyway. It’s got IB which is D pilot 300 and it has liar laser assisted driving system that supports city and highspeed navigation. Now I haven’t personally tested it but I have seen some videos in China that appear to say it’s actually pretty good. Now, there’s either a fully electric version or a plug-in hybrid. For me, the plug-in hybrid doesn’t do it. Uh, doesn’t interest me at all, but here are the details for it. 1.5 L turbo engine. Body claims a 45.3% thermal efficiency, which to be honest, I doubt, but anyway, good efficiency. Front and rear motors producing 200 kW each, offering 200 km of CLTC range. So that’s probably about 150 km of WLTP range. 0 to 100 in the hybrid takes 3.9 seconds. The EV though is single or dual motors. Um the dual motor has 810 kW in total. Like I said, 0 to 100 in 2.7 seconds. Top speed is absolutely ballistic. Probably crazy. It’s 305 km. So that’s 200 mph. It’s got an 83 kWh battery. It’s BOD’s new blade battery, the version two, which is pretty cool. And it uses BOD’s new Super E1000 volt platform. That new blade battery has slightly higher energy density than the existing blade battery. I believe it’s 175 W hours per kilo versus the existing at 165W hours per kilo. So, that helps improve range. Um, it’s still not a high energy density battery. This certainly rivals at a fair bit higher even in the lithiumine phosphate space, but that 1000 volt architecture does enable some pretty insane charging speeds of under 10 minutes, right? In theory, you can charge it at 1,000 kW. The rear wheel drive version has 701 km of range, which is about 600 WTTP. The all-wheel drive version, 600 km of range, which is about 500 km WTP. Now, there’s a bunch of purchase incentives offering up to $7,000 of discounts if you order it within the next, I believe, the next month. There’s also some styling packages, body kit packages. Uh there is olive green and a special blue paint, a floating black roof, sport trim, matte black wheels, which I think look good, four piston yellow brake calipers, and they’re offered for $700. You want to have some good brakes, right, on this thing. If you got 800 kilowatt and you can do more than 300 km an hour and 2.7 seconds 0 to 100, then yeah, you need to be able to stop pretty fast. And that’s the probably the challenge with some EVs. Now, the Han L probably the one downside to it is it’s relatively heavy. It’s about 2 and a half tons. So, it’s a damn nice car, but um if you’re going to be doing, you know, driving these things really, really quick, then I you want to know for sure they’ve got awesome brakes. And I I don’t know yet. We haven’t seen any any data on the brakes and the actual handling. But honestly, the the raw specs here are pretty awesome, aren’t they? I mean, the most expensive version of the HANL, right, with all the tech and the ability to to basically have supercar 0 to 100. In fact, probably faster than some supercars, 0 to 100 performance is a maximum total cost of $37,000. So just I mean imagine that you you you you’re going to beat Porsches and Ferraris off the line just on a drag strip, you know, or you know having a bit of fun. You’re going to beat them off the line pretty convincingly in this uh family well family 5seat sedan uh which can charge in under 10 minutes. So that’s pretty damn awesome. I kudos to beat at BYD, but I think what I’ve been waiting for BYD is to do is to get this architecture to get this um these batteries into more of their models because there’s only two models in the entire BYD lineup of 60 models. 60. You read that right, 60. There’s only two of them though that have the new battery and the new 1000 volt architecture that I’m aware of anyway. The Han L and the Tang L. And neither of those cars are yet available, as far as I’m aware, outside of China. So hopefully Bill brings this tech to some of their other models very soon. Thanks for watching. If you really really want a B out of 3, then either wait for this new version or just buy a Jill EX5 or the Leap Motor C10 cuz they’re both better cars than an 803. But anyway, this is a new 803. It’s been upgraded and it’s got a longer battery range cuz it’s got a bigger battery. And um I think it’s actually not not bad. It’s pretty good. Hello my friends. New Ato3 gets 650 km of range with a 75 kWh battery, which is much bigger. I had an ADO3 a few years back. Um, to be honest, I didn’t really like it that much. I think for me it was kind of hard to get I felt hard to get used to and I had a an issue with being able to set the cruise control and it was kind of frustrating. But I wouldn’t have actually sold it, but I had to because of um Shannon’s cancer and we had to leave Australia and we came back, but at the time we thought we needed the money. Um which would have been true, but because many of you gave to our GoFundMe, we ended up being up to buy another car and that car was an XP G6. Anyway, the updated 803 known as the UN Plus in China gets a 75 kW battery. And to give you an idea of the current battery size, this is much bigger because the current battery is 60.5, meaning it’s 15 kW hours bigger. It’s a big difference in size.
