Police have seized an illegal motorbike after the vehicle collided with one of the force’s unmarked vehicles in a Nottingham suburb.
Two electric motorcycles were spotted during a routine patrol on Hucknall Road in Sherwood at around 1am on Thursday, November 20.
The vehicles were asked to pull over by officers, but failed to stop, resulting in a brief pursuit through surrounding streets.
The rider of one of the motorbikes came head-to-head with the crew of an unmarked Armed Response Vehicle on Hucknall Road, but then veered onto the pavement, where he found his path blocked.
He then struck the front of the car and fell to the ground before trying to run off. He was chased down and detained, and an extendable baton was also recovered.
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving without due care and attention, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and possessing an offensive weapon.
His Sur-Ron bike was also seized and now faces being crushed.
Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Sur-Ron bikes and other devices without pedals are not electric bicycles – they are motorcycles and come with all the risks and responsibilities that come with riding one.
“The young man in this case chose to ride that motorcycle without proper lights – and with only a balaclava and woolly hat to protect his head in the event of a high-speed collision.
“He now faces criminal prosecution, points on his licence, and the permanent loss of a machine that I am sure cost him a lot of money.
“On the plus side, this run-in with our officers may at least have prevented him from causing serious harm to himself or others.”
