PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Pender County has released an update to one of its governing policies regarding county parks.
In a Facebook post, Pender County Parks and Recreation announced that e-bikes, e-skateboards, and e-scooters are no longer permitted in any Pender County–owned or maintained parks.
Included in the restriction is the use of any of the aforementioned motorized vehicles on any county:
TrailsAthletic fieldsPlaygroundsCourtsPicnic sheltersRestroomsBatting cagesOther park amenitiesThe Penderland Greenway and the Sloop Point Loop Road Multi-Use Path
Officials state this is due to “ongoing facility damage and growing safety concerns.”
“Our priority is the safety of all park visitors and the protection of our facilities,” wrote Pender County Parks and Recreation. “We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.”
The county park authority added that the new restriction does not apply to electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or other ADA mobility devices, which are to remain fully permitted.
