Am I Selling My Tesla Because Of Elon Musk?

Am I going to sell our Tesla because of Elon Musk and his um divisive political action, should we say? And this is very much a UK ccentric video, just to be clear. It’s not about US politics at all. It’s a message I get probably anywhere from just a few to a dozen times a day. And over the last year or two, I’ve literally got hundreds, maybe even thousands of messages from people saying, “We need to uh boycott Tesla. I should sell my car. I should get rid of anything Tesla related. we should not use the supercharger network even though a lot of people do um because of Elon Musk. So, are you going to get rid of your car because of him and the moral objections that people have? Uh well, the answer to that is I like doing that. Uh the answer to the question is no. No, I’m not going to get rid of the car because of the owner slashfounder I guess of a company. Because if I had that sort of mentality, I would get rid I would have to probably bin off almost everything in a typical household. Am I going to tear up anything from Hugo Boss because of um well that founders issues? If you don’t know what I mean, Google it. Volkswagen. I mean really anything Chinese. If we ever do a a review of a car and it’s from China, not just stateowned any car, it always gets people saying we should boycott these. There’s not much that people don’t want boycotting these days. And again, the house will be literally empty if I listen to all this. Just to be clear though, I’m not saying I agree with Elon Musk. In fact, if you look at years old videos in my channel, I’ve always had said the same thing about him. I don’t like the guy. I never have before he became divisive, should we say. But I do like Tesla. It’s a car that suits us perfectly. The Supercharger network is the single greatest advantage that they have and ultimately only roughly half of them are open to all cars to use. Although there’s a perception that they’re all open, they’re not. It’s a big big big big big advantage, especially when you do 25 30,000 miles a year as I do having that network. And it’s by far the cheapest as well. So there’s financial reasons, but this is a moral objection. And again, I can’t really argue with anybody who states this. So this this isn’t me saying you’re wrong. This is me saying I’m hearing you. I can I get where you’re coming from, but what you’re asking isn’t wrong. It’s just it’s not logical. You don’t do it in anything else in your life, like Chinese stuff, meat. Many vegetarians have a logical and reasonable argument to stop eating meat. And again, there’s so many things we’d have to get rid of if we just said, “Yeah, I’m not going to do that because someone has a problem with it.” It’s it’s a weird one, but that’s social media in a nutshell. See, my main issue is for, again, this isn’t just me. I’m on social media. I’m an open target. I’m I’m I’m kind of putting this out there to anybody who owns a Tesla. Asking somebody to sell something they already own, especially arguably the most expensive item they’re ever likely to buy outside of a house, a car. That is very different from saying you will never buy something. It’s easy for me to say I will never I don’t know uh I will never go on a cruise. I don’t fancy them, but ultimately they are environmentally diabolical. They’re awful. Transatlantic flights. No one can argue with how bad they are from a an environmental point of view just so we can go on holiday. But people do, don’t they? And again, saying you won’t do something is easy. It’s a talking gesture. asking someone to sell what they already have. When it comes to cars, that’s basically saying throw away money. If I were to trade in any car, not just a Tesla, let’s say it’s worth £10,000 as a trading. You’re not going to spend £10,000 on whatever you replace it with. I mean, how tradings work, you will get well 10 grand at a trading, you’re going to have to spend 12 to get an equivalent car from that same place because obviously they have to make a profit. You don’t do it that you you upgrade or at least you get a a newer lower mileage version of the car that you’ve already had. So, you might spend 15 grand or 20 grand instead. And you might not be ready for that. I will replace our Tesla when it suits us and when we’re financially ready to do so. And I think the everybody watching that or watching this, should I say, will do the same thing. It’s not really fair to say, “Yeah, I know it’s going to lose you money, but get rid of it because of Elon Musk. It’s not practical.” Now, normally I stay away from any sort of political stuff on the channel because it’s very divisive. But as this is extra content Tuesday and it’s back, I thought I’d start with a divisive thing to light up the comment section. And then of course there’s the uh oddity of the the sort of paradox which I keep bringing up to people uh who I’ve had like kind of in-person discussions with. They’ve said I think you should sell your Tesla and and never do any Tesla content. We need to pretend they don’t exist. Okay, I see why you’re saying that. But if I sell my Tesla and forgetting me on social media again, I’m an open target. I’m on about everybody here. If I sell my Tesla, somebody else is obviously going to buy it from me or from the dealer I trade it in with, and the same amount of Teslas are still driving around. Selling the car to someone else. It doesn’t change anything. The amount of Teslas are still out there, it doesn’t reduce them. It doesn’t take them off the road. So the only thing that could realistically work in terms of boycotting them is to scrap the car. Forgetting the thousands of pounds that I would personally lose and many other people as well is never going to happen. And environmentally that would be a bigger moral objection. Maybe concentrate on stopping people buying new Teslas. That would hurt Tesla. Buying a used one doesn’t give them any money at all. In fact, because I have some free Supercharger credits to use up, technically I’m actually costing Tesla money by driving around and using their network. But again, giving up the network. That would be very expensive because it’s the cheapest network to run. So you you’re asking people again to to spend money to boycott Tesla on your behalf. It’s a tough one because as I said, there’s there’s there’s so many things out there that people don’t like. You’re never going to please everybody. and being on social media. Believe me, I know that. But when it comes to this, it’s just I don’t know. I mean, do we boycott anything American because Donald Trump is equally as divisive? It’s never going to happen, is it? You’re not going to stop ordering from Amazon, stop watching Netflix or Americanmade films. A ridiculous statement to make. But arguably, you can’t really object to the logic behind it. If you don’t like Trump, do you block anything American? If you don’t like Musk, do you block everything Musk related? This really is going to divide the comment section, isn’t it? And not everyone will agree with what I’m saying, but this is the best thing to do. Have a discussion. Don’t just, as I frequently get, say nasty things. I I get called a right-wing fascist because I own a Tesla and I’ve done for five and a half years, long before he became divisive. I also get called a left-wing green wokey person because I I own an electric car. I mean, you can sum up social media in that sentence, couldn’t you? If we want to get rid of his influence, should we say, ignore him. Don’t go on Twitter. Don’t reply on the videos that either he puts out or someone puts out on his behalf or whatever. Because I I say this with the anti-EV people that again frequently post on the channel. By posting on my channel, even if it’s a nasty comment, and watching the video that you clearly are against, you’re telling the algorithm to push it on other people. So, you’re actually helping me with my agenda by doing this. Ignore people. That’s the best way of doing it. There’s a couple of anti-EV people out there on YouTube. Uh, and although I’m I’m I’m not uh enemies or anything, I’ve actually talked on WhatsApp to uh one of them anyway, uh I just stopped watching them and my life’s much easier now. It’s it’s it’s one of those things in me. No, I’m not getting rid of my car. And it’s absurd to to say to somebody that you support what the founder of the company believes by owning a product for theirs. If you really want to go after them, I said stopping people buy new ones is the only realistic way of doing it because asking someone to sell a used one is just going to basically say I want you to waste money because I have a moral objection to something. I have no money in this. That’s that that’s my problem with it all. So, no, I’m not going to sell my car until I’m ready. And I may end up buying another used one because it’s it might be the best car for us or the one that suits our high miles and our usage pattern and the efficiency and the warranty and various other reasons. I will not be stopping doing Elon Musk rel Tesla related content because it’s a car channel. It’s it’s we’re not delving into anything other than is it a good car, is it a bad car. Um, so yeah, it’s it’s it’s one of those topics I almost didn’t do because there’ll be people typing right now. Uh, and many of them won’t even watch the whole video. But again, that’s social media in a nutshell, isn’t it? Just just ignore anybody you don’t like. That’s the best way of doing it. That’s why clickbait is is the thing. That’s why all these anti-EV people, if I bring it back around for a second, say ridiculous statements because they know it will rile people up who will comment, who will watch, and will well increase their engagement. So, when it comes to this, um, what do you think? Have you got a used Tesla? Well, have you got a Tesla? It doesn’t matter whether it was bought new or used. Would you not buy a Tesla because of him? Again, I’m not arguing with you. I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just saying it’s something that you can’t really ask other people to do because you don’t know their situation. He’s only been doing this for what a couple years or something and I’ve owned ours for five and a half years. Does that change anything? Logically it does. And again, I’m not willing to spend thousands of pounds to make somebody else feel better. So, where are you in this? I imagine there’s going to be a few arguments in the comment section. There’ll be pro Musk people, anti-musk people, and then ultimately 95% of everyone else who just couldn’t give a rats. You get my point. Calling someone a fascist because of the car they drive is ridiculous. Especially when you find out they own a Volkswagen. It’s silly. And the And again, the Hugo Boss thing, I never realized the guy was a literal member of the Nazi party. But I don’t see people tearing up their clothing. I’ve not seen a single person online or in person that I’ve spoken to who has got rid of their Tesla because of Elon Musk. I’ve seen lots of people online claim they have until you look into it and it’s just the end of a lease agreement or something like that or their finances ended. They were changing it anyway and they’ve gone, I’m finally getting rid of the Tesla. They was it the what do they call it? The Nazi car thingy. Swastiki car. Yes, because you’re the first person to use that joke in the comment section of my channel. When I see someone get shouted at in the street or a charger because they’re driving a Tesla. That’s just ridiculous. You’re the problem if you do that. Quite frankly, have a discussion, not an argument. Then everybody will be happier. Right. Well, that’s that’s deep. That’s deep. We’ve got we’ve got we’ve gone places we shouldn’t. Maybe we should discuss this in the driving home podcast when we finally get off our ass and actually do some uh because then we’ve got more time to discuss things. What do you think? That is in the description of every video that we’ve done for many many times. The driving home uh YouTube channel and it’s in the podcasty places. But as far as Extra Content Tuesday goes, we are done. I’m just going to pick a topic, run with it, see what you think. Um, and it’ll be just literally stuff that can’t really mean main it’s not good enough to make a main video or I don’t just I just don’t want it to be. Hence the extra content part. Uh, and then if it doesn’t work after a couple of months of trying this then I’ll stop. So let me know what you think. Extra content Tuesday, Musk, Tesla, anything at all. Engagement is good. So thanks for watching and I’ll see you soon.

He’s been ‘devisive’ for some time now and after hundreds of messages asking me if I’m cutting ties with Tesla because of Elon Musk I thought I’d just get it out of the way.
