KIA SLASHES EV PRICES BY $10,000 on ALL Models
Kia’s electric car sales crashed in the United States last month. And Kia has gone, “Well, okay, hold my beer. We’re going to offer some pretty insane deals.” Honestly, it could be cheaper to buy a Kia EV right now than what it was before the EV incentives or the tax incentive, whatever you want to call it, before it was cancelled by Donald Trump. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Kia’s EV sales in the US have been discounted by 24%. Um, that’s after Kia sales took a real beating last month after the government pulled the $7,500 EV federal tax credit. Kia, they are rolling out some big discounts trying to get those sales back. The Kia Nero EV, which in Australia is just massively overpriced, but in the US it’s not too bad. It comes with a $10,000 customer cash discount up from 8.5,000 previously. So that means it’s discounted by 24%. You can get Kia Nero EV for $31,000 in America. The price is pretty good actually. According to Cars Direct, the 2025 EV6 is also being offered with the same $10,000 discount, meaning around 23% off. You can get a 2026 EV9 with a $10,000 discount as well, and that’s about 18% price reduction. So yeah, $10,000 off basically every Kia model. That’s US dollars. So it’s quite a lot of money in terms of discounts. Kia says the deal is subject to vehicle availability and dealer participation. So your dealer can decide to opt out if he wants to, but then you can just go to a different dealer. So yeah, EV6 and EV9, they already were getting a $9,000 discount before this new discount. So, basically, Kia has just added an additional $1,000 on top of the $9,000, hoping that this will mean people will buy, I guess. And I do think it makes the vehicles really good value for money. The 2025 EV6 and Nero EV are also available on top of those discounts with 0% interest for 72 months if you get it them financed. um and a2 $25,000 incentive. So, if you get them financed, I don’t think you get the $10,000 discount. I think it’s $25,000 plus 0% interest for 72 months. That’s also a pretty good deal as well. I’d probably go the $10,000 discount personally. The 2026 EB9 also has 0% financing over a 60-month term. And if you want to lease an EV6, including the GT, you can get a $16,500 discount on leasing. $16,500 on leasing. So, they’re basically free. No, I mean, I’m kidding, but wow, Kia, great deals on EVs right now. It’s a really compelling option. I personally have never really felt kind of, oh, Kia EV, I want one of those. Never had that happen to me. The EV6, I do like it. It’s a bit weird looking, but I do like it. Um, the EV9 though, I do like quite like the EV9. But now I’m kind of thinking to myself, if the EV9 was priced similarly in Australia to what it’s priced in the US right now with this $10,000 discount, there’s got to be a lot of people that be saying to themselves, “Ah, this is really good value. I think I’ll have a go go go into a dealership, have a look at one of these.” But unfortunately here in Australia, the EV9 is just way too expensive outside of the price range of most people. And the cheaper ones just don’t have enough range, I think, anyway, for a car of that type. But anyway, these deals in the US really good for you guys. What What do you think? Are they compelling enough to make you guys consider or make any of you watching from the US consider one? Let us know in the comments. Kia’s Tasman pickup truck or ute as we call them in Australia. Kia spent massive amounts of money developing this new vehicle. It’s not a vehicle that shared like the Volkswagen group have shared the platform with the Ford Ranger. Uh and both of those companies sell a lot of pickup trucks worldwide and that helped them immortize the cost. But both of them sell pretty well. In particular, the Ranger is one of the best selling vehicles in the world. Kia went, “No, no, no. We’re going to go it alone. We’re going to make a pickup truck and it’s been a complete failure. Interestingly, I had several people in the industry say to me and and massive fans of cars as well say to me, “Oh, Kia Tasmin, their new EV, their new electric pickup truck. That’s going to be good. I’m sure they’ll sell well.” And I said, “No, no, no. They’re not making an electric version. It’s diesel powered.” And everyone I told this to looked at me and said, “Are you serious? No one’s going to buy it.” YouTube’s new algorithm means that you’re often not getting all of our videos in your feed. There’s 7,500. I’m pretty sure you’re probably not seeing a lot of them. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the electric Viking and the Kia Tasman honestly is going to be a huge sunk cost for Kia. It’s in trouble after just 3 months and it’s not expensive. Kia was aiming to sell 20,000 Tasmin pickup trucks in Australia next year. But um yeah, over the last 3 months, even with discounts, sales were only 2,262. Even before the Kia Tasman made its debut, questions were swirling about how buyers would react to its bold and divisive design and its diesel engine, which to be honest, things are moving on. We’re moving on from that. We’re moving towards electric trucks. We’re moving towards plug-in hybrids. Now, it’s been on sale for a few months. The results have not been what Kia was hoping for. Generally, when a new vehicle hits the market, for the first few months, you get a lot of sales, right? the new Zika 7X, they got three more than 3,000 orders. So, they’ll deliver all those cars within a couple of months, get some really good sales numbers up, and then, you know, the sales will obviously kind of quieten down a bit and sort of hit that sort of medium level. But, um, Kia, they never had a spike. It just never happened. You can currently buy a Tasmin Xline, which is the top-of-the-line model, for $68,000 Australian. That’s the most expensive version right now. Now, that’s $44,000 and it’s been discounted already by $3,000. It was originally $46,000 or $71,000 Australian. In addition to being discounted, all versions include a sports pack for no extra cost. Normally, that costs $4,000, uh about $2,600. So, in other words, they basically discounted the car by $7,000. And it’s a brand new model. Uh the package adds a tono cover, tubular side steps, metallic paint, and a sports bar. Um yeah, you get a bunch of stuff for free. Now, discounts across the lineup have been in place, and this is a brand new car. You normally discount a car when it’s been out for a couple of years or maybe a year, you know, at worst. [Music]
Kia is offering a $10,000 “customer cash” discount across its entire EV lineup — including the Niro EV, EV6, and EV9. For the Niro EV, that discount represents a 24% price cut, bringing its base price down to around $31,045.
The move comes as demand slows after the federal $7,500 EV tax credit ended, and Kia is also promoting 0% APR financing on many EV trims.
