OUTLANDER PHEV… Now with a NISSAN BADGE! The Truth About the 2026 Rogue Hybrid!
Guys, Nissan have just revealed their first ever plug-in hybrid for the US market. First, not bad plug-in hybrid, but it’s been absolutely lambasted by journalists. Journalists are saying this is the end of the road for Nissen. They’re getting incredibly desperate to do this and this hasn’t been done for decades. What Niss have just done um is I I I can kind of see where journalists are coming from. I think it’s actually a smart move. It makes a lot of sense, but it does it does look quite desperate. It looks also incredibly lazy. YouTube’s new algorithm means that you’re often not getting all of our videos in your feed. There’s 7,500. I’m pretty sure you’re probably not seeing a lot of them. In the description, there is a link to our newsletter. Click on that and you can get an update every day of all the latest news in the electric car industry. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. watching the electric Viking. And the reason why journalists, the car media, international media has been slamming Nissan for what they’ve just done is they taken a Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid called the Outlander and done nothing to it. They just all they do is in the factory on the same production line that makes the Outlander, the Outlander comes off the factory line, they stick on a Nissen badge instead of a Mitsubishi badge. This is a Mitsubishi. All they do, bumpers are the same, interior is the same, software is the same. Nothing is different, just the badge on the front. I mean, it’s truly bizarre. So, this is going to be called the Nissen Rogue, I believe. And Nissan’s bestselling vehicle is arriving as a plug-in hybrid for the first time, even though it’s not a Nissen, it’s a Mitsubishi. Anyway, this has more electric range, which is good, but it is the old version of the Mitsubishi Outlander. So, Mitsubishi have just released a new version of this car with a bigger battery, better specs, better software, but Nissan’s like, “Well, that one’s more expensive, is it, Mitsubishi?” No, no, no. We’ll take the old version. We’ll sell the old version to customers, and customers won’t know. Most of them probably won’t know. The Nissen Rogue is by far Niss’s most popular vehicle in the US, but a lack of hybrid options has meant that a lot of people aren’t buying them. And to be honest, not just lack of hybrid options, it’s just not that great of a car. It’s falling behind technologically. A lot of people like, well, why buy that when I can get an EV for the same price. Niss this year has revealed the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and um is part of its combat plants. This is what electric says. Electric says this is part of Nissan’s global combat plan and it’s going to work. They believe. Yeah. Based on its new plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Rogue is equipped with two electric motors, a 20 kWh battery and a 2.4 L gasoline engine, a petrol powered engine. It’s the new version of this from Mitsubishi has a a 22.9, so a 23 kWh battery. And it’s got more power, quite a bit more power in fact. Anyway, you can use modes called EV. You can use the mode save or charge modes to select between zero emissions or all electric or gas engine modes. So, you can get about 38 mi of EPA only range. 38 mi of EV only range. I mean, it’s not too bad, I guess you could say. There’s actually quite a few people in my home suburb that have this car, and I think they’re okay. just average, kind of boring and okay, that’s what I’d say. Combined with the gas engine though, the hybrid powertrain provides 420 mi of EPA range. Not much different to a Tesla Model Y long range. Pretty much the same. The Rogue plug-in hybrid has an EPA estimated 64 MP gallon efficiency rating, but when using a gas engine, it drops to 26 mp gallon. With a level two home charger, the Rogu’s battery can reach a full charge in 7.5 hours. That’s very slow charging. To take 7 1/2 hours to charge a 20 kW battery. To me, that’s like 20-year-old technology. And to give you some context, if you’re thinking to yourself, well, yeah, but hybrids take a long time to charge. No, actually, they don’t. You can buy a lot of models in China now that can charge at 350 kW plus hybrids, meaning you could charge a 20 kow battery in like a few minutes, but this takes 7 and 1/2 hours. Now, don’t get me wrong. I know you can’t charge the battery in these hybrids in China in a few minutes on an AC charger. Yeah, you you need a DC charger for that. But still, the point is this on AC or DC, it charges very slowly. The Rogue plug-in hybrid features Nissen’s intelligent allhe drive as standard, delivering 248 horsepower and 332 lb of feet of torque, says electric. Now, I don’t think electric have any idea where they what they’re talking about here because this is not Nissen’s intelligent allwheel drive as standard. This is a Mitsubishi. It has nothing to do with Nissen whatsoever. The only the only thing that’s got to do with Nissen is the badge on the front. So, maybe electric can correct their article because I think they’ve just reprinted the um the press release from Nissen. Inside the new 2026 Nissan Rogue FEV has a 12.3 in driver’s display, a 9-in touchscreen, looks okay, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also seats seven passengers across three rows comfortably, says electric. Although to be fair, electric did also say the Tesla Model Y L, the stretch version of the Model Y, they slammed it saying that it’s three rows is it’s not big enough to have three rows. It’s the car is too small. Shouldn’t have three rows. But the Model Y L is a much bigger car than this on the inside. So, I’m not really sure why electric say this car you can fit three rows comfortably when the Model Yu can’t when the Model Y L is the much bigger vehicle. That doesn’t really make any sense. Anyhow, cargo capacity is up to 64.7 cubic feet. I think that’s with the rear row folded down. Nissan said you can fit four golf bags with the third row folded. It’s also tall enough to fit a mountain bike. The 2026 Nissan Rogue FEV will be available in two grades. There’s the SL and the Premium, and it’s going to be arriving at dealerships in 2026. Now, electric are big fans of this vehicle, they say. Although 38 mi of all electric range may not seem like much compared to most EVs nowadays that offer over 300 mi, it’s more than enough for an average daily commute or running errands. Now, I should point out, guys, when the battery in this vehicle is depleted, this is a very inefficient car. So, it may be true you can do 35 miles of range on the battery only, but if you drive further than that, you’re basically dragging a a heavy battery around with you, and your efficiency will be worse than other cars on the market that don’t have a battery. So, I personally don’t think this car is a good idea in any way whatsoever. Anyway, um Nissan said the 2026 Rogue is an important step in its electrification road map after pulling the ARA electric SUV. They pulled that from the market. Niss is banking on the upgraded 2026 Leaf and the Rogue plug-in hybrid to help it regain market share in the US. And I mean, electric haven’t mentioned at all in their article that this is actually a Mitsubishi Outlander. Um, I’m not sure if there’s some sponsorship going on here potentially, but every other car journalist website has mentioned this. Everyone else has said this is just a rebadged Outlander. This has got nothing to do with Nissen at all. Um, it’s being made in the Nissen FA in the Mitsubishi factory. It’s a Mitsubishi. There’s nothing about this car that’s Nissen. So, you know, I personally think it’s it’s, you know, it’s not bad. It’s not a bad vehicle. Um, it’s if you’re going to be driving more than 35 mi a day, you don’t want it because it’s going to provide you with worse fuel efficiency than other cars. You’re better off getting an EV in general. And I I don’t recommend this car at all. Now, if the alternative was say some of these newer hybrids from China, if you had that option, you could you could get one of those hybrids. I’d understand that. I mean, you’re looking at 350 plus kilometers of range from those hybrids. You’re looking at charging speed of 350 kW plus as well. That’s a different story. That’s a completely more a really advanced product. This is old school. This is like 10year-old technology, maybe more than that. So, I personally think um if you’re looking at this sector, there are better options available. Thanks for watching.
