2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-in Hybrid FIRST LOOK: The 7-Seater PHEV Nobody’s Talking About
Here’s the deal. Nissan just dropped their first plug-in hybrid for the US market, and they’re doing it in the most unexpected way possible. Meet the 2026 Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid. This isn’t your typical Rogue. It’s actually a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, complete with seven seats, 38 mi of electric range, and standard all-wheel drive. But here’s the thing. Does that even matter if it delivers what buyers actually want? Let’s talk power first. You’re getting a 2.4 4 L 4-cylinder engine working alongside two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear. Total system output hits 248 horsepower and 332 lb feet of torque. That’s more muscle than the standard Rogue. And all-wheel drive comes standard. No need to option it up. The party piece is that 20 kWh battery pack. It’ll give you 38 mi of pure electric driving. That’s enough for most daily commutes without burning a drop of gas. And when the battery runs low, the system seamlessly switches to hybrid mode. You’ve got a total range of 420 mi when you combine electric and gas. Now, about that efficiency, Nissan claims 64 MPG when you’re running on both electricity and gas. If you’re just using the gas engine, you’re looking at 26 MPG combined. Not amazing, but remember, you’ve got three rows of seats and all-wheel drive here. Speaking of those three rows, this is where the Rogue PHEV gets interesting. Seven passenger capacity. The second row slides, recines, and folds forward for third row access. With the third row up, you’ve got 12.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold everything down, and you’re looking at 64.7 cubic feet. Nissan says you can fit four golf bags or a mountain bike standing up. Charging takes 7.5 hours on a level two home charger. That means overnight charging is easy. Plug it in when you get home. It’s ready by morning. You can also use the included level one charger, but that’ll take 16 hours. The tech package is solid. Standard 12.3 in digital driver display, 9-in touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. Four USB ports spread between front and rear seats. Upgrade to the platinum trim, and you get a 10-in head-up display. Bose premium audio with nine speakers. And here’s the cool part. Two 120 volt power outlets, one in the trunk, one for rear passengers. Perfect for tailgating or camping. Safety gear is comprehensive. Nissan Safety Shield 360 comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert. You also get ProPilot Assist with steering assistance, adaptive cruise control, and a 360° camera system. There are seven drive modes to choose from: normal, power, eco, plus off-road settings like tarmac, gravel, snow, and mud. You can also select between EV mode for pure electric driving, save mode to preserve battery charge, or charge mode to actively charge the battery while driving. Two trim levels, SL and Platinum, both come well equipped with heated front seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, and motionactivated power liftgate. Platinum adds leather seating, heated rear seats, panoramic sunroof, and those power outlets. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but expect it somewhere in the low 40s based on the Outlander PGV. The Rogue plug-in hybrid arrives at car dealers early in 2026, and it might just be the practical plug-in hybrid crossover families have been waiting for. Thanks for watching.
