Scout is coming to take on Riven and Hummer. Scout is an American company owned by Volkswagen with two models starting production in 2027, the Terra pickup truck and the Traveler SUV. Both will be available as pure EVs with up to 350 mi of range or with a gas range extender called Harvester pushing the range to over 500 mi. The generator will be a four-cylinder from the Volkswagen group and it will sit behind the rear axle. Also, unlike the Rivian and the Hummer, the Scouts are true body-on-frame vehicles, which means great capability, especially if you get something like these 37in tires. Inside, they’re seating for five or six, a helpful mix of physical controls and Scout’s own software, which is expected to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Neither the Rivians or the Hummers support that. And that software has the benefit of running on Rivian zonal architecture, which means it’ll be very easy to update. There’s a camping mode that shows you how much charge you have left on your battery in time. And there’s a pet mode that lets you upload a custom photo of your dog. And the scouts are all about customization, like this opening canvas roof and this custom toolbox with some often needed accessories.
