Raptee.HV T30 – The High Voltage Electric Motorcycle
What’s up YouTube? Today we have a very interesting motorcycle today. It’s an EV by the way. It’s a Rap T HV the T130 edition. So this video is going to be a little more details about this motorcycle. So I’m in actually Chennai. So we came and yesterday I did a really good ride on the bike and I have to say that I like it. So first of all this is actually one of its kind. So it’s an Indian made fully Indian made bike and it is the first HV from India. So what HV is like generally many people don’t understand this fact that there is a voltage level a voltage operating voltage which is always there in any EV. So this is a high voltage bike. So you don’t have to really know all these things when it comes to riding an EV. The thing is you should know like what are the advantage of having a high voltage EV. The advantage is definitely you can charge faster. So on this bike with a DC charger you can do 20% to 80% in 30 minutes and with a home charger also you can do this charging 20 minutes 20% to 80% in around 1 hour. So that is the advantage of it. And this is the car technology. So this high voltage is car technology. So that means you can actually walk into any of the car EV charging stations and you can charge this motorcycle just like that. So it’s going to be the more simpler way of approaching EV. That’s what I liked it as well. So that is about the high voltage and uh look at it. It’s a good-looking bike and it comes with a 5.4 kWh battery and that’s the thing which I told that it gets charged so quickly. So it’s a commuterish kind of an EV. So let’s look at each thing. First of all, let’s go through the looks. So the head actually looks really good. It comes with a USD suspension, the standard tires that we see with any uh you know 200 to 400 cc motorcycle. The brakes are also like that. We’ll come to the point of the braking feedback and all when we go out for the ride. And we have a very flat kind of a panel like it it doesn’t confuse you with the graphics. It’s like just plain and I like it in that way. We have couple of colors available and it’s only one model. That’s one thing which I like with this EV. It’s only one model, one battery pack and uh all battery pack and everything comes with just one cost. And also this is completely made in India. That’s one thing. Yeah. Here you can see this charging port. So this is CCS2 charging port. That means you can actually use the car charges to charge this bike. And uh this is the dash the infotainment system. It’s a pretty well- definfined system and it got all the information which you want and it’s seamless to use as well. So when I get on the motorcycle, it’s not at all tall motorcycle, you know, it it feels a little wider when when I keep my legs down, but you know, it’s not at all bike at all. And the handlebar feel is good. It’s wide. It doesn’t feel so heavy. It’s around 177 kg. So when we compare the 300 to 400 cc motorcycles, it’s like in par with that or just sits under that 180 190 kg motorcycles. So we have a lot of switches over here. Some of them are not functional actually. So here you’ll see a cruise control switch. So let’s ignore it. It’s not currently working on the bike but first set of customers will get it at a later at a point in time. There are three riding modes. So there’s a mode button here. There’s a park button and these are kind of a joystick buttons here indicator and the horn. And on this side we have a function button, the kill switch button and the ignition. So the overall feel is when you sit on the bike it’s a completely upright riding pusher bike. It’s a commuter bike by the way, you know, and it doesn’t feels very heavy. That is one good thing. Seating is also good. Actually, I have to say that I like the way how it looks. It gives a feel that you are looking at a premium bike. So, yeah, let’s go out for the ride. Before that couple of other things which uh I forgot to mention in the video about which is related to this battery thing is that it has an IDC of 200 km and in real world in the performance mode and all you’ll get something like uh 120 to 150 km. So there are three riding modes sprint which is the fastest. So it starts with the comfort with 150 km range the power which has 100 km range and sprint which has 75 km. I’ll say that the comfort is like you’re riding a scooter. It is comfortable, easy to ride around. Pavo is something like it feels like you’re riding a 250 cc motorcycle. I don’t say 200 cc, it feels like riding a 250 cc motorcycle. It’s quick and it’s uh much easy to use inside city. And then uh you have the sprint. Sprint is like a performance motorcycle. Something like a 400 cc motorcycle. That’s what I’ll say. It’s really quick. Uh you you’ll get that feel once we go out on the ride. We I’ll explain you. And we have navigation. By the way, the touch system on this bike is actually good. So you have inbuilt navigation. It comes with an inbuilt map. And uh the accuracy is little off right now. And uh one amazing thing which I saw with the bike is that you get 8 years of warranty on the battery which is good. That means uh you’ll be covered until then whatever happens with the battery. And even then also they are telling that you’ll experience a degradation of 70 to 80% of the battery. That means it’s going to be really good if all these things happens. And also it has three levels of region which is good. I like it. Again, I I’ll talk about that when we go for the ride. And yeah, let’s go. So yeah, we are on the road. So I’m in the sprint mode itself. Let’s uh pull it hard. Come on, man. I’m not getting the road. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I have. It’s actually very powerful. It feels like you’re riding a 300 to 400 cc bike, but the fact that yeah, it goes to 100 so quick. Really feels fast, man. Oh, nice. Woo. That’s nice. So the 100 comes so quickly and it can do a top speed of 135 km per hour as per Rapi and uh the top speed which I did is 130 to 32 and the fact is that this has a lot and lot a lot of similarities when it comes to the riding dynamics when I compare this with a normal ice motorcycle you know ice meets uh internal combustion engine. So the good part is the throttling is so accurate that it does the same feel that we do it with a internal combustion engine. Uh in lower speeds it almost feels like you are riding an ice. So it’s because of the throttling. So most of the time I feel that I’m not bitching anyone but you know um some some EVs feels that it is just a motor connected to a battery and it’s feels like a remote control car. That means the throttle is very glitchy. And uh the hard part of riding that kind of a vehicle is that you know there is always a jerk from the bike. So it’s like pluck pluck that that pluck feel is gone you know and it feels so gradual and so natural even when you are in the top speeds it it doesn’t deteriorate completely like that. So again if somebody says that I have top speed of 80 km then after reaching the 80 it’s like complete cut off. I mean it doesn’t make sense to have that kind of an electronic cut off. Yeah. You know it’s a battery operated thing so you won’t be able to get any more voltage out of it. So the feedback is so nice. This is one of the finest throttle that I’ve used on an EV. Yes, I said that it comes with a CCS2 charging. So that’s the car charging. So there is no such regulation in India on what kind of charger you have to use. So it’s all like that uh olden days where the Apple was thinking that they’ll be converting their lightning charger system to all other chargers and finally they also had to upgrade to the type-c. So in India especially in scooters there is no rule there is no rule what to do when it comes to charging. So everyone has their own proprietary chargers and this is the first bike and gladly from India to have this kind of a CCS2 charging where it’s a car charger. You walk into any car charger and just charge it. That means in 15 minutes if it’s a DC charger in 15 minutes you get a charging like 50 km of range. So that’s instant. That is good. So when it comes to the riding dynamics, this feels so nice. It doesn’t feels like it’s 177 kg bike. 177 is not a big thing actually when it comes to 300 cc but when you look from a EV scooter point of view, it’s a heavy bike. But the center of mass on this motorcycle is low. So it’s much easy to ride and it’s much easy to roam around and uh you have inbuilt navigation. This the touchcreen is good. So uh the only trouble which I faced is that the navigation is not so accurate. It keeps flicking like my maps goes from here to this that road easily. So that need to be a little more accurate. And couple of other things are like the suspension is so nice. It is very supple and also it supports you for high speeds as well. The top speed it can do is as I said 130 to 135 but still it is held confident in that speed and very very very comfortable. So when I was going through a bad patch of road I was able to comfortably take this bike through that bad road and uh one thing is that uh it was bottoming out at times that is uh the bad part of having a very soft and supple suspension and coming to the braking side I’ll say that surprisingly this bike has more braking by from the rear. So I feel like the front brake should have a little more bite and also there is a little bit of uh progressive braking feel as well in the sense the brake actually feels immediate. So the lever could have a little more uh feel and feedback to the braking. So I feel that the braking could have been a bit more better but you know it’s totally nice to ride when it comes to the riding modes with the comfort as well as the power. The braking feels very ample and accurate. And when it comes to sprint then I was a little scared like okay I’m riding fast so what if if I don’t get that kind of ah feel out of the brake the handlebar is actually white and it has a belt drive system. So I was asking like why why don’t you went with the chain drive system. So the chain has to be maintained once in 2,000 km and it has to be replaced for this kind of a bike once in I think 15,000 km. So the belt will last for 40,000 km and needs maintenance once in 10,000 km. And a fun fact about tuning the belt is that it’s not the regular way. So generally with the chain also we check the slack and then adjust the bolt on the axle. But you know on this one it’s like tuning a guitar. So it’s a rubber belt. So you just tap on it and you have a mobile phone app which actually calculate the frequency. So it’s like tuning a guitar. It’s like the guitar is like you just tune it and uh get the frequencies correctly. So in order to understand whether the belt is correctly slacked, you have to do this ting ting ting and get the frequency in that correct band. So as a person who likes music and who are on to automotive engineering, I feel like this is the time where the music is meeting. I mean always it was meeting mechanical engineering through exhaust but you know it feels nice to see that kind of a way of approaching and problem solving. And the main fact of this bike which I like is the extra room price. So it’s around uh so it’s 2.39 lakh. how you see that it was completely comfortable but the thing is it was almost bottoming out I can feel that. So I was talking about the extra room price so it just 2.39 lakh and there is no there is no low variant high variant uh no nonsense like that it’s just you and the bike uh like around 6 to 8 colors available so you pick the color so there is no variation with the battery it’s always the 5.4 4 kWh battery and you have it and uh let me tell you what are the issues which I faced on this motorcycle while I’m testing it. So one thing is as I told the maps wasn’t so accurate and second thing is the brakes could have been a little more better and there’s a locking system here. So it’s a keyless entry by the way. So when you lock press the key to lock the bike there is a small kind of a rod comes and lock to the bike. So I feel like it could have been hidden because you know people can misuse that thing. You cannot actually steal this motorcycle just like that because it’s electronically locked anyway. But you know it gives bad hint to people like wrongdoers that okay you can’t take this bike out but it really don’t work but it could have been a little hidden over here. So uh altogether if you ask me what I liked in the bike it’s the CCS2 charging 100% because you know this is one thing which uh I feel like should come in the future as a standard. Second thing is the way it rides. The throttling which is almost equivalent to an ICE bike sounds going in the right direction and uh this is not a really performanceoriented highway bike. It’s a commuter bike. So you know when it comes to scooters or motorcycles, my pick is always motorcycles because you know bigger tires, more confident way of riding. You are a little faster than the general traffic which makes you actually safe on the road because you know the slower you are the more you are prone to accidents. you know that that is one thing like which I see. I don’t want to get into that kind of a discussion but you know it’s always good to be having a little more power and couple of other things which I personally like with the bike when it comes to uh owning this thing is that you don’t have to carry a gas charger all the time with you. The charger is there like you can connect it to a 5 ampere or a 15 ampere and you can actually set the voltage as well on that but you know you have a lighter charger setup and what I feel is that nowadays people get betrayed for these things in in the sense they are asked to carry a heavy ass 10 kg charger with you and they will say that we have a boot space of 20 liter but you know 10 liter has been used by our charger what’s the point man and another point is that you have the navigation on this one and you can actually auto navigate to the nearest charging station. Since it’s a car charger again, you can actually go out to any of the nearest car charger. So, you set that option in this and it auto navigate to the nearest location which is also good. And also one advantage of having this high voltage charging is that it’s more reliable compared to any other technology like low voltage, high current based technology. And yesterday we tried pushing this motorcycle to the limit almost riding it all the time like a very high speed but still it didn’t shut off which is good. So when it comes to performanceoriented commuting this thing is a really good pick. But as I said um this going to be in uh Bengaluru and Chennai in the beginning and probably they are expanding to more cities in India. So what I’ll say is that just go to the showroom take a test ride you’ll be able to connect all these things what I’m telling. So that’s my personal take of it and uh the fun fact is that I won’t be able to do a sign off just like I would do like. So that’s it. I hope this video is helpful for you and as always show some love in the form of likes and comments. See you in the next video. Until then, bye-bye.
