DOES IT MATCH THE HYPE? – ENGWE EP2 3.0 BOOST – REVIEW
Welcome to my review of the Angu EP2 3.0 Boost. Once again, Enu sent me the bike. Let me review it. Now, yes, you did hear me right. The EP2 3.0 Boost. Why didn’t they just call it the EP3? Like, I have no idea why they didn’t, but we’ll go with it. Like, now once again, this came in one of smaller boxes. Really well packaged. Came as it’s meant to. Nothing wrong with it at all because of the smaller box. more building to do. When you get in a smaller box, it usually means you have to put the rear rack on as well. So, you have to put on the rear rack, the rear light, the front light, the handlebars, the seat, the pedals, I think the stand. That’s about it to be honest. Yeah, nothing too major. Once again, the brakes kind the wrong way around. The left brake was the front brake, which should be the rear. It’s not a big issue, especially with hydraulics. You just loosen the nut, pull the actual wire out, swap them over, tighten the nuts, and if you’ve lost a bit of fluid, you just swap your fluid back up, and it should be good to go. Now, with this bike, it’s nice and easy to charge, nice and quick, cuz it’s got the fast charger, the 3 and a half hour charger, which is a 4 amp charger. Now, if you watch my channel, you know that I’ve had the L23.0 Boost and the L20 3.0 Pro which both use an 8 amp charger and charged half the time. I did ask way if they’re compatible and they said no. So I didn’t bother trying to use them because I’m not trying to kill the battery with nothing. So apparently they’re not compatible. So let’s have a look at the bits. Now I don’t normally do this but the first bit I’m going to look at is the frame. And there’s no welds or you don’t really see the welds. It looks smooth and professionally done. It looks really, really good. It definitely looks like an upgrade than the old one. Now, I do think it’s not perfect. Not at all. It’s slimmer than the old one, but it doesn’t seem weaker. It seems stronger. The back looks stronger to me and better. A couple of negatives are firstly there used to be a a slanted bag going from like the seat post to the frame and that was awesome. I don’t think it made any structural difference at all but it was really really good to put your hand in there to carry your bike upstairs and stuff and that’s gone now. So I’m disappointed with that because I did use that a lot on my other bikes. Now, the next thing is more missed opportunity beyond the old EP2 or the Engine X or the Engine Pro. When you open the bike to fold it, that’s where the battery was. Now, for me, when I saw the original pictures of this thing, I thought, “Oo, it’s dual battery.” Cuz I never anticipated they’d take the battery out of there, but they have gone and they’ve moved it to the back. Now, the battery is far better than the old one because it’s more easy to access. It’s more easy to take off. It’s a lot less fiddly getting out of the bike because that old one was really really fiddly, but I’d have rather had dual batteries. Dual batteries would have been awesome. Like that’s the thing this thing were crying out for. More range is always better. But it is what it is and the battery is an upgrade because it’s better and easier and now fast charging. So like its predecessor, it’s come with the 24×4 in wheels, still fat tires. We’ve now gone to raw tires and I actually really liked them. They was quieter when he was turning. They made a weird squeak, but I was just beding them in. And yeah, I really liked them. But then during my testing it, it rained and it’s a bit slippy in the rain. Like it’s good for when it’s dry. It’s brilliant for when it’s dry, but when it’s raining, that back wheel goes a bit. Now, as you can see, they’ve gone with the sport wheels, and they do the job. They’re not really an issue. I do prefer the look of the one piece rims, but I can’t really say anything negative because they’re just wheels. Like, as long as they’re around, who cares? It’s just cosmetics really to me. The bike has hydraulic brakes front and rear. Really nice. 180 mil discs. Really great stopping power. Can’t fault the brakes at all. The screen and buttons are really, really nice. They’re basically the ones off the L23.0 Boost and can’t put them at all. They look really good. When you press the boost, it comes up on the screen saying boost. It’s really, really nice. It’s much better than the old one by far. The hand grips are the ones that you tighten on with Allen keys. Nice and rubber, really comfortable. Can’t fault them at all either. The pedals are nice thick metal ones. Nice wide surface area, nice and grippy, fantastic pedals to be honest. The battery is a 48vt 13 and a half amp battery and obviously now it’s fast charging with a new 4 amp charger which is fantastic half the time of a normal battery. I got roughly 30 miles from the charge so you can’t pull the battery really. The bike has front rear lights now. The front light is an upgrade from the old bike. It’s wider. Two beams now instead of one. Looks better. The rear light looks really nice and sleek. And it’s not a brake light, but it is. So, basically, it detects movement and it decides when to come on and off. So, if you press the brake lever, it’ll do nothing, but if you slow suddenly or tilt, it’ll go off and outlet braking. So, it is a brake light, but it isn’t. They’ve now switched to plastic mud guards. We got a plastic mud guard front and rear. Just as wide as it used to be, quieter. I think I kind of prefer plastic than metal. There’s no reason for it to be metal to be honest. Metal’s far noisier. The bike once again is a rare rack. Whole new design rare rack. It connects totally different. It’s so less fiddly to put on. It’s lovely. It’s really easy. still says 25 kilo load limit which I do suspect can hold a lot more but I’m not the expert they are so we’ll go with that really nice rear rack really useful the seats really nice comfortable wide padded but I’ve never had a problem with any of the seats so I’m not going to say it’s better I won’t say it’s worse some people are saying it’s better I’m not going to argue it’s not but it is a nice seat Now, as with its predecessor, so it’s still front suspension, no rear suspension. It’s also still folding. Now, the fold’s kind of weird because it looks like the same mechanism of the old one, but on this one, it’s much stiffer. Now, I assume in time it’ll get easier, but when you first buy it, it’s really hard to actually fold it into cuz it’s really, really stiff. The motor on this new model is a 250 W with 75 N meters. So, an upgrade in torque for sure. So, what do I think of the bike and if I’m honest, I’ve been kind of avoiding this bit. It’s another hard one. So, for me, the EP2 3.0 boost. Again, should just call it EP3. It was deemed as a massive upgrade and looks like a massive upgrade. It really does. It sounds like one. And that have been fantastic cuz the EP2 boost was really, really nice. I really like that bike. It was really good. Now again, if you’ve watched me for some time, you might now be reminded of my old L20 boost review, which I wasn’t in love with. There was just something that really bugged me about it. And we’re in the same territory here. But I’m not going to have the rant to do that one because I’m more experienced now and I don’t think the issue is what I thought it was. So to clarify, when I ride an ebike, anytime it can do 15.5 mph, I want it to do 15.5 mph. And I feel that when it doesn’t, it gives me a negative vibe of the bike. And I’m right, but I’m not right. If I look at fragments, the L20 3.0 Pro, fantastic bike. When I pedal that, it’s set up perfect. So, it just loves being at around 15.5. I don’t really lose that speed at all. And it keeps me at that nice level, just constant pace. But this doesn’t. And what I think’s wrong is Henry have misprogrammed it. I think they’ve underprogrammed it to 40 mph. Just under 40 mph. So, it runs at that pace nice and easy and nice and comfortable. And if I can 15.5 and just say it’s a 40 mph on my bike, then I don’t have a problem with it. It’s fantastic. But it’s just that little niggle that bugs me and I think it’ll bug other people as well. I’ve heard people suggest it might be the boost button or something related to that, but I don’t agree at all. I think it’s set at that parameter. You can get it faster if you put more effort in. But like your actual cruising pedaling, keeps it around 14. And if you do press the boost button and like pedal a bit harder, you do get more, but that’s a bit more effort than you have to. So I genuinely think they’ve just programmed it wrong. And if you just step back and go right, I’m not going to ride at 15.5. I’m going to ride it about 14 mph. Then you won’t have a problem at all. It’s really nice. Now, the followup problem to that is the hill test. And as you know, I do a hill test for every bike. This one any exception. But there are certain parts on that hill whereby the bike can handle. And when it can handle it, it will do 15.5 and go faster. Now, this one, because it’s under set, it’s slower on them bits. So, even though it’s not harder than other bikes, it’s been slower because the speed’s been set wrong and it’s not as fast as it should be. That makes sense. So, let’s put my one about the speed aside and let’s treat it as a 40 mph ebike. And what do I think? It’s honestly really nice. It’s smooth, responsive, it’s quiet because of the new road tires. It’s definitely an upgrade on the old bike. It’s just a better made bike. It looks better. It feels better. It’s more comfortable. It’s just generally nicer. So, my personal view is that Enway should reprogram the controllers of the ones that they make in future and just top it up a little bit, just make it a bit more sensitive so it is happy at the 15.5 m hour. If they do that, this is absolutely a winner. This is amazing. This is This is the bike we wanted. So, the real question is, would I buy this or the EP2 Boost? And right now, honestly, this I’ve seen the site today and they’re currently at 1,100 quid instead of the 1300 they was. So, they’ve knocked 200 quid off of Black Friday sales. With my code, any Gund off, you get another 100 quid off that. So, you’ll be down to £1,000 for the bike. And at that price, it’s a nob brainer. It really is. In addition to that, the EP2 boost for just under,000. I think it’s 950. So, you can’t use any Gund00 off code on that because it’s under 1,000. There’s another code that will give you 50 off that and I’ll put that in the description. So, right now you’d be looking at 900 quid for the EP2 boost or 1,000 for the EP2 3.0 boost. And like I said, it’s a no-brainer. It’s absolutely worth the extra 100 quid. So, let’s fast forward to after the Black Friday sales and this will go back to 1300 and the EP2 will stay at the 950. What would I do then? In honesty, I know it’s 300 quid and I know It’s not perfect. Even with a 40 mph thing, I’d still buy this. And the reason for that is because you’re now getting hydraulic brakes. You’re getting new LCD, a better LCD, better buttons, a better frame. The frame looks miles better. It really does. It’s stronger. It’s It’s more sleek. It’s unique to Angware. And there’s something about this bike that feels like they’ve put more effort into the build quality. Like they’ve really put an effort in. So, I do think it is worth the extra money. Even with it floor, they fix the floor. It’s definitely definitely definitely worth the money. It really is. So, yeah, I’ I’d 100% given the choice, I’d have this over the EP2 Boost anytime without any doubt. Now, normally I take the bikes off road at a local little bike track and I was going to run this one, but when I got onto the bike track, they’d started relaying it all and there was like piles of stones everywhere. So, I couldn’t actually get on the track at all or I could only like tiny little sections cuz like it wasn’t any stair to ride around. So, I didn’t get around to doing that. I probably will in the future and I may release another video doing that. But again, I mean, I don’t really have to because it’ll go around it no problem at all. It’ll love the bumps. It’ll be great though. Now, as far as actual extra talk goes, I can’t tell whether it is or isn’t. I think it is, but it’s just a feeling I can’t I don’t have any scientific data or any information or any proof. And because of the hill test being slower because it’s un set it looks slower so it looks less but I don’t think I think it is a more powerful ebike than the predecessor but it’s just my feelings and not proof. So my conclusion is this is really nice. It’s a really good bike. It’s not the upgrade I felt it should have been. It’s not too late for that if do actually reprogram it. As it stands now though, it’s not quite what I thought it’d be. It’s It’s underwhelmed me a little bit, but at the same time, it’s a really nice bike. If it’s your first bike, you’ll love it. You’ll have no issues with it at all. I think if you own an EP2 or an Engine X, you’ll you’ll feel that little slower speed and you’ll be like, “Wish it did more.” But yeah, I mean, in general, I can’t I can’t really slice it too much. They’ve done a really nice job. They’ve made a really nice bike. And I do feel that moaning over a mile and a half an hour. It’s really nitpicking. And if they don’t fix it, you should just get over it and accept it. But it is. It’s a nice bike. It’s worth the money. It’s well built. And I’d recommend you buy one. I really would. Also on that note, if we go off the predecessors, it should have been an EP2 3.0, an engine X 3.0, and the engine pro 3.0. And the engine X should have really been this bike, but with the suspension, and then the engine pro 3.0 should have been what it is, cuz obviously that’s more torque again. So, it’s unfortunate they’ve left the engine X out cuz that was a nice middleman between the two. Maybe they’ll release one in the future. Just a random thought. So, if you’re interested in this bike, now’s the time to buy it. It really is cuz at 1,100 quid plus the 100 quid off, £1,000 is a brilliant price for it. You’re not going to do it at that price for a long time again. And I do think it’s worth the money. So once again, if you got this far, thank you for watching.
