2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport Plug-In Hybrid First Look and Drive!
What’s up everybody and welcome to the channel. In today’s video, we’re checking out the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV 4. This one is the RAV 4 GR Sport finished off in Renaissance red. So, we’re going to see what the sporty version is all about. So, this one is only going to come with a plug-in hybrid engine. All of the new RAV 4s are hybrids. Some are normal hybrids, and then some are plugins. For the GR, they are standard plug-in. So, with that, popping the hood, you’re going to find that 2 and 12 L inline four cylinder engine with the plug-in hybrid technology. This makes net horsepower at 324. Then the engine’s torque is 172. So, with that, it has a 22.7 kWh battery. On fully electric mode, you can actually drive around 50 mi. And then for MPG, you’re looking at 41 in the city with 34 out on the highway running on a 14.5gallon fuel tank. got a curb weight of 4,400 lb. Towing is 3500 lb and even payload is 1,300 lb. And then with all that, you can actually drive this car on 87 octane fuel. So, as far as styling goes, the GR gets a nice set of LED headlights. These will all light up with the cool running lights. You’re going to get that hammerhead style up above, black Toyota badge, and then a nice black trim piece connecting them. And then we have this huge grill down below like a GR Corolla. You got a forward- facing camera, parking sensors, GR badge, some nice ducks as well. Nice sporty look through it, LED lights, and then a really sporty front end all down below. So, it has a super cool look to it. Definitely fits the GR brand. I think they’ve done a nice job styling it. You’re going to see some really clean lines throughout the hood leading to the windshield. And then around the side, we have a nice set of gloss black fender arches with a set of 20-in wheels. Now, these weigh 2.2 2 kg less than the 20s available on the XSE. Also has a little bit wider offset, slightly lower ride height as well. But you’re going to see the nice design. Serata, got the charge port on this side, gloss black trim down below, and gloss black mirror caps, turn signal and camera, body color door handles, and then all blacked out roof design. So really sleek. Making our way to the back. And then the side profile looks really good on these, too. I like how boxy they are. Has a more sporty vibe than before. And then just the clean lines all throughout it fit the design very well. Got this massive rear spoiler too, which is unique for the GR and it does honestly fit the style. Looks really good. Nice set of LED tail lights, black trim, all of your badging, GR Sport logo, and then you can see some black throughout the rear diffuser. Got your all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid logo as well. I think this styling really comes together. It’s a pretty cool looking car. And then we have a button right here. Going to go ahead and press that and we can take a look at the cargo space. So, as far as the trunk volume goes, you’re looking at 33.6 cubic feet of cargo volume with the seats up and then once you fold them down, we’re at 63.5. They fold down nice and flat, too. And you have really easy access to just push that. We got a cargo cover, a cool looking mat, and underneath the floor, you’re even going to see a spare tire. So, super roomy. Got storage here as well. You can see a little light. So, definitely a nice setup. Easily closing that gas cap is over here. And then we can just pop these and pull them back up. So, nice amount of space. The interior on the GR has the black soft text with the micro suede and then red accents. For the door panels, you have a little bit of a somewhat soft touch actually plastic up here. And then a nice padded gray section for your armrest and the insert. And then I like how the grab handles are also storage cubbies. So, easy spot to fit a phone. And then in here, we have the nice materials throughout the seats. Three people can sit comfortably. And then we have an armrest with cup holders. You’re going to get USBs. We have air vents. Nice amount of storage. And then these handles are very easy. You can operate. We also have a little bit of a recline as you can tell. It’s a nice touch to see. And then at 5’11, sitting here with the driver seat at my height, honestly, feel really comfortable. Plenty of leg room and foot room. Good headroom like 8 in. And the recline angle is awesome. Either way, it’s really comfy. And then I love these huge windows. It makes it feel really open in here. Car seat shouldn’t be too bad to fit. So, honestly, seems like a really good roomy family car. No complaints and no compromises. And then, as we make our way up here, we have our smart key, of course. And then all the same type of materials throughout the door. Of course, all of your controls, power seat up here. Got the GR name, aluminum pedals, and then the cool looking sporty seats. I like the red piping, the GR name as well. And then we have a perforated leather steering wheel with more red accents. From here, foot on the brake. You may not really hear the engine start up at all, but everything fires up. Got your two massive screens. And then on the steering wheel, we have the Toyota badge. Cruise control is all on the right side. And then left side, we have some audio controls in the screen. You’re going to get paddle shifters as well. Stock on the right for windshield wipers, head lights, and turn signals on the left. And then for the screen, we can configure it in several different designs. You get all sorts of different information coming up. Pretty easy to use and pretty easy to see everything. So, not bad with just how simple it can look and get all the information you’re going to want. We have the trunk release interior dimming. More soft touch material. A cool style for this dashboard. There’s actually soft touch that gray color throughout there. It’s kind of a layered look. Very interesting with the gauges and the uh center screen, but it looks pretty cool. got more soft touch, extra storage, and then the all new screen I’m really impressed with. Before I felt like there wasn’t enough information to dictate a massive screen, but this seems very integrated, very snappy, easy to use. I like for drive modes, you can configure it on the screen, and when you play with them, it also changes the colors nicely. So, it’s got a cool look. Climate control is always integrated down here, so it does make it very easy to use. You have your heated seats and steering wheel. Temperature is also physical. And then we can go through these icons over here and see a lot of different information. So really nice screen. Very impressed with all that. In reverse, you have your nice backup camera, top down view. You can configure that as well in drive. We have more that’ll pop up. Have settings you can play with as well. And then what’s nice, there’s actually a built-in dash cam for these cars that use all the cameras, so you can set that up, which is quite nice. But yeah, definitely a sweet way to go for the screen. They’ve done a good job improving that. And then down below we have our air vents, hazards, and then four different buttons. We have our drive mode select right here. So I can just toggle this versus using it on the screen, which is a nice touch. We also have the trail and snow mode over here. So that will configure, you’ll see it on the screen with a cool depiction. Normal mode, of course, right here. And then we have our EV modes. So when I toggle this button, it’s going to pop up on the left side of the screen for your hybrid, your vehicle in electric, or just kind of a blend. Wireless phone charging, ton of hidden storage all throughout here, which is awesome for phones and little things. Got USBs, downhill assist, traction control, shortcut to the camera, and then storage down below with a nice shifter. Then you’re also going to get a very cool center console. We can have it in this orientation for a nice storage area. Pull both buttons completely. Remove this. And now we have a nice padded armrest. We can open it from either direction, which is a great touch. Good amount of space in here as expected. and then a lockable glove box with a lot of space. One last look at the interior. Honestly, it feels really nice in here. There are soft touch materials. Any of the plastics feel quite nice. So, very nicely appointed. Good tech, good storage, cool seats as well. And then we just have your dome light controls. We have a sunglass holder and garage buttons underneath the mirror. All right, so we are setting off now in the 2026 Toyota RAV for the GR Sport in sport mode. So, what’s cool in this drive mode, you can also then toggle basically the hybrid system. So, it’s hard to see from this angle, but I have hybrid vehicle mode. I can toggle that into EV mode. And then you can also toggle it into an auto mode where it will do kind of a combination of the two different drive modes. But you can hear the engine kick on when I floor it there. Electric mode, you can actually drive it in full EV mode, which is quite nice. So, when I go into the EV system, of course, I can also look at it on one of the screens and kind of view how it is. But right now, you can accelerate in fully electric mode. But this thing drives pretty good. If we toggle it into normal mode, I mean, it’s a comfortable seating position. You have a good view around. Great visibility all through the glass. No crazy blind spots or anything like that. So, it’s honestly just I mean, easy to drive. The seats are comfortable. I like the shifter. It’s a good kind of armrest for you. Tons of storage. Armrests are all really nice. Pretty quiet as well. Going, you know, 42 mph just kind of cruising, but pretty nice. Now, if we toggle it into eco mode, let’s drive this in fully electric. So, we’re in EV mode as well. And if I just do a little Uturn, I mean, it’s an easy car to maneuver. Turning circle was pretty good to do kind of a flip around. And now fully electric acceleration. That’s pedal the floor right up to 50. So you can drive this in fully electric mode. And then of course you will be able to watch your range. I have 40 mi of range right now. Full throttle. It does not kick on the engine in this mode. So I like how you can mix and match it. Let’s see if I’m in normal mode in EV mode if it does that as well. Full throttle. Yep. There’s no engine kicking on at all. And then if I go into sport, let’s see in EV mode if it gives me some engine. Nope, fully electric. So you can drive this fully electric, which is awesome. And that’s a huge range. There’s a lot of others that I’ve driven, plug-in hybrids from other brands that are giving you like 20 m. So the EV driving range is awesome. That works really well. But turn it into auto, it’ll kind of go between the two. But honestly, I like how seamless the integration is. Even in sport mode, if I’m in the auto um electric system, you don’t really feel or hear the engine until you step on it fully. Like I hear the engine there as I give it a little bit more throttle, but honestly, it works really well. I also love the new screen. They did such a good job the way it’s all customizable. It really feels like a phone. I’m super impressed with how snappy that is. But yeah, overall driving characteristics, it is a pleasant car to just drive. Comfortable suspension. While this is sport tuned, you know, this is a sporty one. I mean, it’s sweet to have, you know, that kind of GR levels to it. And back into sport, honestly, you know, the brakes work well. When you take some turns, it feels zippy when you’re taking the turns. It doesn’t just feel like it, you know, looks cool. It it actually handles the turns well. It’s fun to kind of toy around with the turns. It’s got beefed up suspension as well. But yeah, overall driving characteristics of the GR, it’s fun. It puts a smile on your face. It’s got some power. Can’t complain with that. And yet, it’s super efficient as well. Here we go. Every day
👋 Today we get a first look at the all new 2026 Toyota RAV4! The Toyota Rav4 has been the best selling SUV for many many years and for the 2026 model year Toyota revamped the iconic Rav4 completely! This is the newest and coolest trim level. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport! Yup, Gazoo Racing as put their magic into Americas favorite SUV. The 2026 Rav4 GR Sport is a plug in hybrid pushing a 2.5L inline 4 cylinder engine and 3 electric motors. This makes 324 HP and should be able to drive nearly 50 miles on full electric range. The 2026 Rav4 GR Sport is AWD with an eCVT transmission and can do 0-60 in around 5 seconds! Gazoo Racing has tuned the suspension, brakes and steering for a more sporty feel and this sits around an inch lower then the standard 2026 Toyota Rav4. Driving the all new 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport was pretty nice! Very smooth overall with comfortable seats. The power delivery is really nice and the EV system packs a punch! Steering feels tight and overall the handling is more sporty then the standard Rav4 trims. Fun to drive crossover with really no complaints! The all new multi media screen looks great too and is easy to use! I like how the layout is so configurable and works like a smart phone.
I love the bright red color for the GR Rav4 and the black accents really make this bold. The 2026 Rav4 GR has a bold front end appearance with functional aero and really makes a statement. The overall size with the new 2026 Toyota Rav4 is similar to the outgoing model. The GR Sport 2026 Rav4 has a black interior with smooth SofTex and micro suede for the seats. I like the red accents through the interior as well. Very comfortable seats and there is plenty of room in the front seats and rear seats. Cargo room is great too with no intrusion from the hybrid battery system. The center console armrest is even reversible for a comfforbtale pad or a storage area. There are a ton of hidden storage spots in the all new 2026 Toyota RAV4 and I like how useful the interior is. Plenty of soft touch materials throughout the interior as well for a premium feel. New screen will look nice too. Overall the 2026 Toyota Rav4 GR Sport is a cool take on a popular crossover SUV and we really only see these true ‘sport’ trims on the European car. Audi S Line, Mercedes AMG Line and BMW M Sport. We haven’t seen a trim like this on a crossover SUV from competitors like Hyundai or Honda. So I think it will be a great way for Toyota to enter into the sporty crossover segment and makes this new 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport rival the BMW X1 M35i rather then A CR-V or Tucson. So Toyota knocking it out of the park stepping up the Rav4 into a fun drivers Crossover!
