Electric vehicle sales match diesel sales for new cars in 2025 in Ireland
For me, it kind of feels like the whole EV hating thing has uh relaxed a little bit on social media definitely. Uh we just don’t seem to see as much of it. But what’s kind of interesting, I suppose, is um the stats this year, and I don’t care. I’m not trying to give you a sales pitch. We still sell diesel cars, but they are slowing down massively when it comes to inquiry levels and actual sales. Uh so 17% nationally in Ireland this year of um cars sold were diesel but 17% were electric as well. We sold a buttload of diesel cars over the years and I remember actually uh we used to be Toyota dealers and when we went from Toyota to Hyundai um uh Toyota were mainly concentrating on hybrid and we were kind of thinking wow that is really really narrow way of looking at the market. Now to be fair, for the decade that went after it, we did sell a lot of diesels, but uh it is really declining in terms of brand new car sales. Partly because I suppose manufacturers are making less kind of diesels than they used to. Uh but some of it is because of consumer taste changing as well. It’s by no means like a hatchet job for diesel. God, we sold a lot of diesels and we still have a lot of diesel left to sell. So uh we will be selling diesels this year, but uh and there’s no right or wrong with this. Like there ain’t no car that suits everybody. So, it’s different strokes for different folks and all that, but I’m assuming the market next year is going to be um are we going to see more EVs and diesels? It’s possible. I think it’s cool, but um there’s a new version coming out in about 2 weeks time. Uh heavily revised and finally now has 20-in wheels as standard. One thing about this car always for me was 18in wheels. Oh, I just think it needs bigger wheels. So, uh, I’ll do a kind of video there in a couple of weeks time whenever we get them which will compare previous and new model. The 20s make a massive, massive difference to the look of the car and all the bumpers are different and the lights and all that kind of stuff. So anyway, thanks for watching.
