Introducing the Truckle™
Hey buddy. [Music] Well, what I’ve been doing most my life is rodeoing, making world class buckles, driving Ford trucks, and being a family man. [Music] I knew they wanted a buckle, but I didn’t know they wanted to reinvent the buckle in this way. This really great wild buckle. [Music] Most the other buckles I’ve made are trophy buckles. The Truckle is the first buckle I’ve ever made that’s functional. This buckle does something. And you can now carry your key fob right in this buckle. Being a cowboy, the Truckle allows me to use both my hands all the time. I can haul hay. I can dig post holes. I can drive a tractor. Both hands are free in everything you do. I know where the heck my key fob is. It’s in my truckle. I got into jewelry early in my rodeoing career. It seemed like it was something you could do along with rodeo. I learned all these skills from a bunch of my buddies Gibson Nez and Herman Sosce. One was a Navajo and one was an Apache. And they taught me all the finer points in leather work and silver work and how to add those little things that just make everything better. [Music] Here at a cut above, we’re all craftsmen. Everything’s handone. Every letter is hand cut. All the engraving is handone. Nobody gets to come up with this overnight. This is a hard hard skill to learn. You know, a lot of guys are are digitally doing all of their designs now, but I still handdraw all of my stuff. I’ve got thousands of pieces. And when I started on the truckle, these are the original drawings that I did. So, I started actually right here. And I just did a rough idea. This is what we call a box buckle. I drew a side view of the shape and the size that the fob had to be. It took some ingenuity. It was trial and error. I was thinking of a story that I’d heard about Henry Ford when he asked his crew to build an 8 cylinder engine. His engineers told him can’t be done. And so Henry Ford told his engineers, “Produce it anyway.” Well, that’s kind of what happened here. When this became difficult, I threw out some options that were a lot simpler and and my answer was no. Make the truckle, put that key fob in it, and make it look good. And we did it. This is Ruben Delgado and he’s been with me for a little over 30 years and he and I have developed all of these different buckles and the Ford Truckle together. It was hard to do it, but finally we got it. You know, now right now I’m doing this and finish up all the little details. What’s so special about Reuben’s engraving is it’s a style that he’s developed. That’s one of the things we love most about what he put into this buckle. [Music] I won the calf ropen in 1971. I was a sophomore in high school. I drew a bull numbered 777. He turned out to be the bucking bull of the year for like four or five years running. Anyway, he hit me in the side of the head. He broke my jaw, my cheek, broke all the bones up above my eye. Over the years, I’ve had a lot of hard knocks. And I relate that to this truck because it’s been through a lot. I remember that first F-150 in 1975. It was an amazing looking truck and I remember the commercial showed it going down a dirt road kicking up that dirt. Ford means to me capability. And when you’re hauling horses in that back trailer, you want to know that it’s capable of getting you where you’re going. And Ford always has. The Ford Truckle is amazing. We’ve combined ingenuity, durability, and toughness in this. So old school looking buckle, but the ingenuity that we developed for this Ford Truckle basically boils down to this. There you go. Never going to lose your key fob again. [Music] [Music]
