BYD Sea Lion 05-All BYD on 3.0 Evo platform are awesome!

Good day everyone at my channel. Today we are 
reviewing the newest compact EV crossover from BYD from their Ocean series and this is BYDC line05 
EV and I have a lot to tell you about this car. The price of this compact crossover with length 
of 4.5 m starts from $16,000 United States dollars in China. It has three versions and all versions 
equipped with the Eye of God FSD autopilot system. This will be the first BYD to review on our 
channel with the Eye of God autopilot system. So, I’m extremely curious. I’m hope you’re curious as 
well. Right now, I will perform the test drive, but you will see you will see it a little 
bit later in this video. And for now, I invite you to go inside of the showroom to get 
acquainted with the car and its equipment. [Music] Friends, I really say that all BYD products are 
Asome. Even though I don’t like some of them, but they’re really cool. This budget SUV, you come 
to it and you see it’s really nice. It’s wellmade, well built. Everything fitted so perfectly. 
Everything looks so high quality. No any uh sounds in the interior. Everything really 
beautiful, wellbuilt and so on. But who does the marketing for BYD? I have no idea. This is 
BYD Cline05 EV. This is BYDC line07 EV. They totally not same. The price, the car style, the 
car segment, they’re totally different. But we also have the BYD line05 DM, which is actually 
the facelifted old BYD song Pro from about 2018. My brain will explode with those all that BYD 
marketing. The motor of this car is being simple. The length is 4.52 m. The wheelbase is 2.72 m. 
We have three versions and two batteries. The smallest battery is 50 kwatt hours. The bigger 
battery is 61. We don’t have any 800 W platform. All the batteries are low voltage. At the same 
time, the smaller battery can take only up to 130 kW on DC uh charge. And the bigger battery 
can take up to 156 kW on the DC charge. All the cars have all the versions have V2L by default. 
The power of output is 3.3 kW. This motor can be only rear wheel drive with two motor options. The 
first motor is 140 kW of peak power, which is 190 horsepower and 330 Newton meters of torque. And 
two higher versions have 160 kW of the peak power, which is 218 horsepower. the same 330 Newton 
meters of torque and the acceleration from zero to 100 in all the versions is 7.2 seconds. The first 
two versions of this car have 17in wheels and the top version has 18in wheels. Here we have the 
roof railings which is not presented in the basic version but in the middle and top version we have 
it same as this non-openable glass huge sunroof with the sun shade which is also not presented 
in the basic version but presented in middle and top. But where did they do the really great job is 
the frank. This is 110 lit of frank. Here we can put the 22 in suitcase. It has really perfect 
finishing. It has uh this gas struts for for holding the bonnet. It has also sound insulation 
inside. It has the heat pump of the new generation which helps you to save the wrench. We are now 
in the interior and I will start from the nice features. First of all, this sunroof is extremely 
huge and we have the uh curtain electrical drive curtain which covers it all. Works very nice, very 
intelligently, not loudly and so on. H next good feature we have the steering wheel in the fake 
leather in all the versions by default but we do not have the steering wheel heating and actually 
it’s totally normal for this market segment. The other good thing that this fake leather is on the 
in the old versions even in the basic version by default. Uh also it can have the light color and 
the black color like we have here. The heating and ventilation of the front seats is presented 
only in middle and top version. And this is the middle version and by the way the heat ventilation 
is extremely extremely powerful in this car. The other good thing we have the 50 watt wireless 
charger which is presented in all the versions by default in basic version as well. And we also 
have a lot of physical buttons for which I would like to thank BYD again and again one more time. 
The electrical adjustment of the driver’s seat is in all the versions but the electrical adjustment 
of the uh passenger seat does is not presented in the basic version. And the really crazy feature in 
this car which is not presented in this particular example because this is the medium version is the 
term box in this uh armrest which is presented in top version and it is the same the box which you 
can find in the cars for 50 and even $100,000 such as denza such as young one and so on which can 
keep your food uh cold up to minus 6° C or up to plus 50° and also we have this uh device let’s 
say for the napkins where the napkins is inserted like that and can be inserted out. Uh actually the 
first time I’ve see uh this device from factory by default and also we have the nice glove box of 
course with without any finishing without any soft finishing but nevertheless it’s quite spacious. 
Finally we decided we must show you this item in the top version. Here is the box. It’s not so 
huge as in more expensive cars but it’s same technology. We just turn it on. We have up to -6° 
Celsius. We push it again. We have up to plus 50. We can shift the temperature. We can turn it off 
like that. And also, one moment. Also, only the uh top version has the ambient lighting. It’s 
about 128 colors which are uh changed in this way. Other versions do not have it. And pay attention 
to this light gray interior. Uh different from the uh other car we checked here. It’s light gray, 
not black. Many people asking what about the material or the trim and so on. We have here soft 
plastic, relatively soft. Here we have the textile material. Uh very good uh precision of matching. 
Here we have the same material as on the seats. At least it looks the same. And here just normal 
plastic. All versions have eight speakers of the audio system. The second row is extremely nice 
and I’m not surprised because BYD is the brand who learned how to do the nice second row in 
most of their cars. Here we have the flat floor, the low level of the floor. We have the 
climate deflectors. We have the two USB ports, type A and type C. We have the long caution. The 
cushion is very soft. It’s convenient to sit here. We have the simple armrest. We have plenty of 
space for the knees. And we have huge uh sunroof. That’s nearly perfect. Electric tailgate is only 
in the top version. This car is medium version, so we don’t have it. The trunk space is quite 
nice. It’s about 450 L. We have this false floor, and if we put it in the uh one of its position, we 
will have the flat floor when folding the seats. If we put it lower, we we will have the trunk of 
bigger volume. This false floor is of good quality under it. But unfortunately, we don’t have the 
way how to fix it. And we do not have the curtain here. Okay. Under it, we have the factory tie 
repair kit with the factory triangle. And we have the BYD charger, which is of course very cheap 
and basically almost useless, but some of our customers use it by the way. And also, we have the 
VTO, which is currently not here. The quality of the tin here is quite budget. We have the cheap 
basic plastic here, cheap basic plastic here, approximately same as in the UN plus, but for this 
price, it should be okay. And the infography of uh the size of this trunk, you will see right 
now on your screens. Now, we talk about the ground clearance suspension. And just look at this 
turning angle of the front wheels. It’s one of the probably market records. It’s incredible. It 
looks like from a loader. And on the test drive, I will pay attention to it uh more detailed. By 
the way, this car has a really really outstanding turning radius of 4.5 m. Of course, the rear wheel 
drive and rear mounted engine and the not too big wheelbase uh helps it a lot. And look, just here 
on this small spot, we can make a full turn. This is this is literally incredible. Here we have the 
normal uh classical mattress and suspension uh which with a huge lever with a huge bearing ball 
which is exchangeable which is on three bolts. Everything looks very nice. The subframe made of 
steel and the ground clearance is amazing. Just look at this. The ground clearance is about 195 mm 
in the first wait in the under the front subframe. 93 mm and more than that in the medium part 
of the car it’s even a little bit bigger. It’s about 205 mm. Everything here looks very 
nice, very well protected and finished. And the rear part of the car where we have 
the motor uh we have approximately same ground clearance. Here under the motor subframe we have 
193 mm and everything is protected very fine as well. Here we have the multi-link suspension. 
Uh actually this ground clearance for just 17in wheels is amazing. Is record is really really 
perfect and outstanding. On all my videos, I checked the if the car has galvanized sink 
coating and BD is one of the brands which now makes even the cheapest cars with galvanized sink 
coating. Here we have it on this fender. On the roof panel, despite it’s 10 cm wide because of 
the glass sunroof, we have it here. We have it as well. On the doors, we have it as well. The 
hood, we have it as well. The front fender, we have it as well. I’ve already checked here. 
For example, this inside door panel has it, but this ah this inside door panel have it as 
well. Yeah. Okay. And the body crate has it as well. So it’s fully sync coated and it’s amazing 
for that price. This car will probably not rust for many many years. So we are now driving the 
BYD Cine05 EV and from the beginning I would say several inconvenient moments for me. First of 
all, the angle of the seat cushion uh is a little bit too flat. I would like to lift up the front 
part of it. But unfortunately, we don’t have the adjustment of the angle of the seat cushion. Uh 
and this is very typical for BYD that actually the seat cushion is a little bit flat and we only have 
the seat micro lift here without any adjustment of the seat cushion angle. Uh the other thing that 
this car uh being bigger than for example and up in the front part of it feels little less space. 
Nevertheless, the car itself and on the second row is actually bigger. Uh other things will 
be mostly very good about this car because uh first of all this car has the uh new style 
of BYD under steering shifters. Oh, this is the uh new Avator. So this car has the first probably 
the first BYD to have the new style of the under steering shifters and I like them a lot. Uh 
they’re really nice. They are very pleasant to use. Here we have the uh let’s say gearbox 
or driving modes shifting. They looks exactly now like in a Tesla. And here we have the 
multi-trans switcher of the light of the uh wipers and so on. And it’s extremely pleasant 
to use despite the old one which was quite universal and was in a lot of a lot of BYD models 
was quite convenient and pleasant as well. In this car we have 218 horsepower on the rear motor. This 
is the top version with 61 kW hours and we have 330 Newton meters of torque. The acceleration 
from 0 to 100 is 7.2 seconds. And right now we will try the acceleration on this traffic 
lights uh when we have the green of course. This is the sport mode acceleration. We have 
even the ESP turned off. And actually it’s almost uh 80. Uh it’s quite nice. Uh it’s quite smooth. 
Of course it’s not super powerful because it’s only 218 horsepower with a single electric motor 
and the single gear, but still for the city it’s uh for sure sufficient power. And the brakes, 
the adjustment of brakes. I like as well. The other thing I like here is the view in 
the mirrors in the rearview mirror. It’s extremely nice. And also this really really 
thick steering wheel which is not typical for Bad of the previous generation because 
they used to do it usually more thin than uh most of the competitors. The suspension and 
sound insulation in this car is a way better than you could expect from this price range and from 
this segment of the car. Basically, in my opinion, it’s perfect and it’s actually perfect in all the 
cars built on the 3.0 ever platform like Cine 07, like Seal uh 06 GT and so on. But today we all 
gathered here to talk about the new autopilot system I of God. And unfortunately, this is a huge 
disappointment because uh we have generally three types of this system. I told you about that in the 
video about Leopart 8. And here we have of course the basic version of this system the uh D pilot 
C with about 100 trillion operations per second of the capability of working and uh unfortunately 
it’s totally not the same autopilot which we have in Toyota. Basically in the city this autopilot 
cannot do anything automatically. This is the same adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist 
which we had in BYD cars for two three and four years ago. Unfortunately in this D pilot C, it 
cannot recognize the traffic lights. It cannot uh drive without your hands on the steering wheel 
as Toyota can. Maybe not very in a stable way but can and even actually the line keeping assistant 
now working not very good despite I used to drive the BYD up for about 1 month and there the line 
keeping assistant and the adaptive cruise control full speed of course works literally perfectly. So 
this is a huge disappointment for me. I thought it will be a revolution. It even doesn’t allow me to 
use only one hand. Only one hand. It it it asks me to use both hand at once. It’s really really 
crazy. Uh but what this autopilot can actually do and why is it better than before? It may help 
you on the highway. On the highway, it’s really advanced. It can overtake cars automatically. It 
can keep the lane automatically. I hope better than now. Uh it can uh follow some scenarios 
of driving and working with the huge tracks and so on. And of course it has a lot of a lot of 
scenarios of auto parking uh like valid parking, parallel parking and so on. And probably it should 
work here quite well. And all the cars even with the basic Dink pilot 100 can do auto parking even 
without anyone inside like this. We picked that parking spot which is not actually parking spot 
but we picked it and the car is parking without any help and the key right now is in my pocket. Uh 
that’s how it works. So the autopilot, the basic level of this autopilot, the C type is actually 
a disappointment. The B level like in Cine07, it already has the traffic light uh recognition, 
navigation driving, which is also no have here. But the car generally is nice. The price is very 
moderate. Uh suspension, sound insulation very perfect. And and what is really important is 
the energy consumption. I checked the energy consumption for the past 50 kilometers and we have 
17.6 kilwatt hours per 100 kilometers and I was driving quite actively in the sport mode but my 
kilometers only about 20. The general cumulative uh energy consumption of this car per its whole 
life it’s now 1,60 km on the adometer uh is only about 16.6 six and this is good because basically 
this is the result of the BYDU app in the city in the BDUN app which is a smaller car with smaller 
battery which is lighter car you could do 15 maybe but for this car 16.6 in the hot summer weather is 
pretty pretty nice. So we got acquainted with this car and basically it’s perfect. It has a lot of 
space inside. It has good front, good trunk. It has amazing record turning angle. It has good 
equipment with everything sufficient you need. It has a very moderate price. It has thin coating 
and so on. Really really nice car and one of the best things here is the work of the suspension and 
the sound insulation of this car. But there is one thing which is very bad. I’m sure they will change 
it later and this is actually the new autopilot system which works worse than the other cars one 
two three years uh older from BYD without this autopilot system. It doesn’t even allow you to 
drive with one hand of the steering wheel. And I’m sure it cannot work like that. I’m sure they 
will just change the software very fast, maybe in one in one or two weeks and so on and this will be 
corrected. I’m pretty sure. Nevertheless, in all other aspect aspects, the car is nearly perfect.

BYD Sea Lion 05 EV — compact electric crossover, launched in China March 2025.

Platform / layout: built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo, designed as a pure-electric architecture with a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout and rear five-link independent suspension.

Motor options: two motor outputs are available — ≈140 kW and ≈160 kW (different trims). Peak torque for the stronger motor is about 330 N·m.

Batteries & CLTC range: BYD lists Blade-LFP battery pack choices of roughly 50.05 kWh and 60.9 kWh, with advertised CLTC ranges of ~430 km and ~520 km depending on pack/trim. (CLTC = Chinese cycle, typically optimistic vs WLTP/WLTP-equivalents.)

Fast-charging: official published fast-charge peak figures are in the ~130–156 kW class for higher trims; BYD and Chinese press state 30→80% in ≈18 minutes on high-power DC for the higher-power pack. Real on-site rates vary with station & ambient conditions — I show a real charging session in the test-drive.

Dimensions (EV): 4520 × 1860 × 1630 mm, wheelbase 2720 mm — roomy for a compact SUV footprint.

Price (China, BYD official guidance at launch): ¥117,800 – ¥137,800 RMB (≈$16,300 – $19,100 USD) for Sea Lion 05 EV variants at initial listing. Expect dealer promotions or regional incentives.
