Tesla makes BIG CHANGES to Car Warranties in the United States & Canada
Tesla is changing some of its warranty details for 2026 model year cars. Kind of an interesting change. It’s slightly confusing. I’ll try to explain it as simply as I as I possibly can. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Tesla is well changing its vehicle warranty for new vehicles sold under the 2026 model year, adding a new layer of protection for owners in the United States and Canada. Will they make these changes outside of the US and Canada? Probably will. Normally Tesla’s warranty is the same everywhere in the world. So you can expect that these changes will be made, well very likely expected anyway outside of North America at some point within the next 6 months. The new warranty documents reveal a highriced propulsion related part warranty providing an additional 7 years or 70,000 mi of coverage on certain parts. Not a Tesla app says this is a good thing for buyers. And I agree. You know, Tesla’s warranty, it’s probably the biggest problem with their cars in my opinion. It’s much shorter than basically everyone else in the EV sector in particular. Here, I don’t know about you guys in the US, but here in Australia, we’re getting warranties of 7 years, 8 years, 10 years. Uh, I mean, for example, my Xpang had a 10-year warranty when I bought it. So, you know, Tesla’s 3year warranty in comparison to that is kind of anemic. YouTube’s new algorithm means that you’re often not getting all of our videos in your feed. There’s 7,500. I’m pretty sure you’re probably not seeing a lot of them. In the description, there is a link to our newsletter. Click on that and you can get an update every day of all the latest news in the electric car industry. So, outside of Manav’s main high voltage battery, and the high voltage batteries generally in most countries around the world for most brands usually have an 8-year 160,000 km warranty. That’s pretty normal. Outside of an EV’s main high voltage battery and drive unit, which have their own 8-year warranties, there are critical components to an EV that have uh this new warranty, which to me is confusing. Why not give them the same warranty, right? Because the new 7-year warranty covers a long list of these expensive parts, protecting owners from potentially costly repairs well after the basic vehicle warranty has expired at 50,000 mi or 4 years. I mean, that 50,000 mi or 4-year warranty is ridiculously short. Really, guys, you know, I’m a fan of Tesla. I am. Absolutely. I’m a fan of them. I’ve done so many positive videos on them. I get called a Tesla shill, but this warranty is just it’s not good enough. So, bringing out this 7-year warranty to cover some of these parts is great, but now Tesla has three different warranties. In fact, they have more than this, but there’s actually more warranties than this under the Tesla banner. But anyhow, three basically 8year battery warranty. Uh they have a 7-year warranty on certain parts. And then they have the general car warranty at 4 years and 50,000 mi. And it’s starting to get a little convoluted if you ask me. But yeah, I mean BED has the same issues. You’ll find the same issues with other brands as well. Power conversion system assembly, the PCS, that’s covered for seven years. The PC5 inlet and outlet assembly hoses, same thing. Ancillary harness assembly, high voltage fast charge contacttors assembly, high voltage system controller, front and rear half shaft assemblies, front, right, and left electrical harness assemblies, super manifold assembly, cooling fan assembly, and the radiator. These are things that Tesla has said, “Well, we’re going to make it seven years instead of the really short 3 years.” For owners, this new coverage improves their peace of mind, I guess you could say. Now, the PCS ensures your vehicle can both fast charge, says not a Tesla app, at level three, and slow charge at level one or level two. Without it, you’ve effectively got a big bricked battery and it’s one of the most likely components to malfunction if there is an electrical issue. Guys, I’m I’m on Tesla forums. I don’t go on them every day, but I go on them, you know, once a week. I haven’t heard of the PCS failing very often. It’s a pretty rare thing to fail. So, here’s the list from Tesla. There’s actually quite a lot of things covered in this list for the 7-year warranty. Uh, which is why I think if you’re going to cover all this stuff and the battery, that’s a pretty significant portion of the car, why not just cover the whole thing with a 7-year warranty? I think that’ll be give customers peace of mind and it would be really comparable with some of their rivals as well. The Cybert truck, apparently, it’s excluded from these warranty um changes. Not sure why. Not sure why the Cybertruck hasn’t received this 7-year warranty on parts inside of it. Maybe it’s because Tesla haven’t been making the Cybertruck for long enough to know which parts will break. Maybe. I’m not sure. But anyway, I I know I’ve been kind of critical on Tesla in this video, but overall, hey, this is still a positive. It’s still definitely a positive to get a 7-year warranty on many parts that could fail in the car that are quite expensive. So, it is good news ultimately. What are your thoughts? Thanks for watching. Today Tesla sent out a cryptic message to the media in Australia. It says it’s got big news coming. And that big news, no one knows what it is, but they say that we’ll find out on Friday this week. Interestingly, on the same exact day that Tesla well teased us with this tantalizing nothing of news, which is coming out on Friday, the same exact day, orders for the Cybert truck in Korea opened. Now, Korea’s pickup truck market is minuscule in comparison to Australia’s pickup truck market. [Music] Oh my god. [Music] Hello my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Great to have you with us. I want to point out something. Many of you probably already know this. Right-hand drive. Australia. Unfortunately, we have all their vehicles are in right-hand drive. That’s a problem, I guess, if you’re Tesla and you got a Cybert truck which is left-hand drive. However, if Tesla is willing to ship the Cybert truck to Korea, to South Korea and sell it there, which you can buy it now, I can tell you the prices in a minute. If they’re willing to do that, then surely the market for pickup trucks, which is far far larger in Thailand and Australia, and in fact even the UK, combined the UK, Thailand, and Australia, these right-hand drive car markets, plus potentially also Malaysia and South Africa. And I think the Cybertruck is coming. I think that’s what Tesla’s big news is for Friday in Australia. Now, it would make sense, particularly considering Cybertruck sales are not going very well in the United States. It would make sense if Tesla went and [Music] [Music]
