First look inside the all-new electric GLC | The Walkaround
Right, then we’ve got something very special in store today. Mercedes-Benz have got a new model to show you. I’m Tom Exton, AKA TGE on the Internet, and I’m absolutely pumped to share this with you. Are you ready? Yeah, man, let’s do it. Let’s go. Wow. Look at this marvel: the electric GLC in Lavender Silver. This is a new colour and it’s absolutely stunning here under these lights. Let’s dive in. So, as you may well know, the GLC is obviously extremely popular. It’s actually the top-selling model with Mercedes-Benz. So the fact that Mercedes-Benz are electrifying their best seller is really, really exciting. And not only that, it’s actually got 360 kilowatts of system power, meaning the driving experience should be incredible. So charging is a statement on this car as well. Up to 300 kilometres in just 10 minutes. That’s super-fast. That is pretty quick. About the same amount of time as it takes me to neck an espresso and check my messages. This thing is seriously levelled up. It’s got 2.4 tonnes of towing capacity and this boot here, it’s got 570 litres of storage space in there as well. Not only that, you’ve got a frunk which is opened by touch and that’s got 128 litres of space in it as well. And for a more useful metric out there, that’s 2,042 golf balls. So there really isn’t any excuse at all, not just to take absolutely everything with you on holiday. And there’s still room for you in there? Yep. Loads of room. And if you’re into design, this is the first Mercedes-Benz to wear the new elevated look, clearer lines, proper status. Come with me then, because I want to show you this, the new iconic grille. Feast your eyes on that. You can’t miss it. And I’ve got a question for you. How many backlit dots are there on this grille? Let’s see. So it’s 123 times 123. We don’t have time to count. This is 300? Not even close. 942! Can you imagine seeing that in your rearview mirror at night? It’s going to look absolutely incredible. And excitingly, this is the first Mercedes-Benz ever to have this illuminated grille. The electric GLC also features next-generation digital light with micro-LED technology powered by a powerful chip. What that means in the real world is that up to 600 metres on ultra range you’ve actually got partial cut out on traffic, meaning you don’t dazzle cars up to 600 metres away from you because the light will actually detect them and do a partial cut out around them. Really, really clever stuff. So the electric GLC is 84 millimetres longer in the wheelbase than the combustion version. That means obviously more space, more flexibility inside, but crucially for the passengers in the back. Now I’ve got a question for you, guys and girls at home, and I want you to get in the comments here. Lavender Silver is this colour. I love it. It’s a brand-new colour. However, as if by magic, come with me on this side. I want to know whether or not you prefer Lavender Silver or Patagonia Red. Coming to the interior of the car, then, there is so much that’s new here, but it’s also really familiar. Opening the door, you get the Mercedes-Benz ‘Welcome Home.’ vibe. Do you know how to say that in German? “Willkommen zuhause”. First things first. Then we’ve got a new steering wheel design and back by popular demand, we have physical controls on the steering wheel. On my left thumb here, we have a rocker switch to control the DISTRONIC system. On my right thumb here we have a roller control to control the infotainment. You ask for them, you got them and all around me, then you’ll see this active Ambient Lighting that’s this amazing glow all around. It’s actually in the footwells. It’s all around the cabin basically. And that is customizable to pretty much any colour you like according to your mood and integrate it into this incredible panoramic roof above me. You’ve got 162 illuminated little stars in this panoramic roof and Mercedes-Benz call it Sky Control because, and you’re going to have to pay attention for this: Over here in the menu, we get access to the Sky Control. There’s three different modes available. And what you can basically do is change where you shade your passengers. So if you’ve got kids in the back and they don’t want sun on their head or you’ve got groceries or whatever it is, you can keep them shaded back there, but you can enjoy the sun up front and loads of different combinations on here. And the glass is very clever because there’s an infrared layer in it, which keeps you cool in the summer, and there’s another layer that keeps you warm in the winter. And should you so wish, you can actually order this car with vegan Nappa look materials. It’s the world’s first certified by the Vegan Society. And what’s more, the ENERGIZING COMFORT system is now easier to use than ever. So if you fancy a massage or a little freshen up, it’ll sort you out. Now, if you don’t mind. Quite a bit of cool breeze coming in, getting a bit of a massage, got some tranquil noises. Can I have a few minutes please? Wakey wakey! Sorry about that. We’ve got work to do. I need to show you some more. Get in the back. I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your attention by now, but this is the all-new MBUX HYPERSCREEN. It’s 39.1 inches long and it’s the largest to ever be put in a Mercedes-Benz. I actually want to show you from POV, so give me a camera. I’m going to show you what it’s like from a driver’s perspective up here to use this. So we’ve got up to 40 apps on the app manager here. All your apps in here. And they’re actually all in different categories. So you’ve even got productivity in here. You’ve got games for the kids, that sort of thing. But if you want to get serious, you can also take work meetings in the car. And it’s even got a camera up there with facial recognition. So you actually be productive on the move. There’s no avoiding the office in this car. It’s really, really clever. But you’ve obviously got entertainment, music and audio. All your favorite apps are in here. It’s 40 different apps. Absolutely amazing. Can I see the camera, how it looks? Yes, you can. Hello? Hello? How am I looking? Oh, you look solid, man. Man, you’re looking great back there. Thanks. The electric GLC comes with the 4th generation MBUX, which comes with the new MBUX Virtual Assistant powered by Microsoft and Google AI. It not only recognises your preference but also reacts to your mood. Not only that, but you can ask it pretty much whatever you want. Hey Mercedes? How can I help? Tell me a fun fact about Mercedes-Benz. Bertha Benz, Carl Benz’s wife, became the first long distance driver in 1888 when she secretly took the patent motor wagon on a 66 mile trip, proving its practicality. That was courtesy of little Benz. Here, look how cute. Oh, hello. by the way, there’s also an option to get the Burmester 4D surround sound system. And if you get the chance, you really should check it out. You should not only hear it, but feel it. Feel it through the seats. It’s obviously coming from all around you here in the cabin. Hey, I’m, I’m a little bit thirsty. Here’s the camera. You got this. I don’t need you anyway. I’ll pick it up from here. So, yeah. He’s gone. Not sure if he’s coming back. So we’ve seen inside the electric GLC. It’s beautiful. It’s clever but most importantly, then: what is it like to drive? This thing has really clever suspension. It’s got the AIRMATIC suspension and that’s technology taken from the S-Class. The turning circle on this thing, because of the clever rear axle steering, which actually gives you 4 and a half degrees of rear axle steer in either direction. The turning circle is shortened by nearly a metre, 90 centimetres. The turning circle is shaved off. So, there we have it. There, not just beautiful, not just clever, but it’s also going to drive amazingly as well. So, there we have it, iconic looks, everyday versatility, intuitive tech, making everyday on the road as easy as possible and smooth as you like. Or in other words, everything you knew and loved about the GLC just brought bang up to date. Before you leave me, then: let me know in the comments what was your favorite feature? What’s your personal highlight? I really want to hear them, so get in the comments below! Cheers for joining me here in Stuttgart and hopefully I will see you out on the roads very soon. Bye. Tom? Tom? Tom? What do you want? Were you asleep. I was. Do you mind?
