E-Bikes Will Never Be the Same

This looks like any other unassuming ebike on the market, one of many. They all promise to have exciting features and pretty much all turn out to be the same same. And I wouldn’t blame you guys for clicking off this video in the first 10 seconds based on how this bike looks. But you guys know me and you know that I’m not going to do a review if it’s just another boring 250 W ebike. There’s something special about this bike. It’s got some really cool technology inside of it and you’re going to want to stick around to find out exactly what it does and what it is. The ebike market is saturated with bikes and they all pretty much look the same and ride the same. Nothing really changes dramatically. But that’s not the case with this bike. This bike rides nothing like any other electric bike that I’ve ridden, hub drive or mid drive. So today we’re going to be finding out what makes this bike so different. I’ve had loads of electric bikes on the channel and for me this has to be one of the most genuine exciting advancements of hub motor technology that I’ve seen to date. So this is the Buffang H730 hub motor in this model and it is a 3-speed gear variable technology hub drive motor and it’s actually an exclusive collaboration between ADO ebikes and Buffang. And in this video today, guys, I’m going to explain to you and demonstrate what makes this motor so unique and what the technology is all about and why it’s caught the attention of someone like me. It normally wouldn’t give a dull looking 250 W city bike a second glance. going to be completely honest. I don’t like 250 W pedal assist ebikes and I haven’t for a long time. That’s for a number of reasons. They’re all pretty much the same same. I don’t agree with the UK law that they should be limited to 15. I mean, a 250 W ebike unrestricted should do about 20 22 mph. And that would be a good speed that would kind of replicate the natural feel of a normal pedal cycle. Most people can pedal at 20 mph. I mean, what speed do you pedal at on average? According to wind and, you know, weather and everything, but um anything from 15 to 25. I mean, if you’re not doing over 15 miles per hour, it’s more dangerous. The cars are going too fast past you. Also, it ain’t good for you. Yeah. You know, you’re not you’re not working your body. Yeah. You know, you It’s like going for a walk and you’re just strolling. Yeah. If you’re going for a walk, you got to give it a little bit of, you know, but the crazy thing is it’s more than achievable on a pedal bike. Yeah. Like 20 easily. Don’t mind me asking. How old sort of age range are you in? I’m 81. You seriously 81? Yeah. Wow. 44. Wow. And you can pedal between 15 and 25 on average miles per hour. Sometimes not being funny. I’m I’m I’m blown away, mate. That’s really impressive. Really impressive for any age, let alone you could be 20, 30 years younger. And then to make matters worse, we’re only allowed to have pedal assist in this country now, which means you can’t have any throttle with graduation. And it’s just like an onoff switch. And that means you’ve got no control. Like we’re wearing a car or a motorbike or anything else. Of course, you’ve got a throttle where you can graduate from n to 100%. And that makes you feel connected to the machine you’re using. If you’ve got a throttle, you’ve got control. And if you’ve got control, you’ve got safety. So, this is the problem for myself. Without torque sensing on the pedal assist, UK 250 W ebikes are lacking control, dangerously too slow, and you just don’t feel at one with the bike. Now, this is different. And for the first time I jumped on this, I did what most BS do through the manual in the bin. In the bin, and just jumped on it. I was kind of not really expecting that much cuz up till now, all electric hub motor ebikes are the just exactly the same. As soon as I set off on it, it was responsive in a really nice way. But then almost by intuition, I went to grab and reach for the handlebars to find the gear selector to go up a gear. And just as I was having that fault, the bike changed gear itself. No chain noise, perfect gear selection. Like you can sense and feel it change up a gear, but there’s absolutely no derail fitted to this bike whatsoever. There’s no chain to rattle around on the frame. There’s no adjusting the gears. The list goes on. It’s hard to put across on camera, but anyone else I’ve let have a go at this bike said exactly the same thing. It’s just an intuitive. Obviously, the gearbox is all built into the rear hub motor, and it’s obviously a mixture of mechanical, metal gears, electronics, and they’ve just nailed it. They’ve just nailed it. Like they could have got it really wrong with a software and it don’t change gear at the right time, but it’s just spot on. Like on a normal bike, you might, you know, be riding along, you got to think about gear selection all the time. But this, you just, you don’t do anything. You just pedal. And that’s what’s blown me away about this bike is it’s literally the first electric hub motor bike with pedal assist ever that I’ve actually felt connected to and like more in control. It’s not just predictable. You’ve got full control and it legitely almost feels telepathic. The title isn’t clickbait. It generally portrays how this bike feels. You start moving and you go second gear bit more. Third gear. Not only that, between pedaling then like I could tell that it’s got torque sensing as well as that. So you’ve got full control the harder you pedal. the more feedback you’ve got to the power. The gears change exactly when they should. Like there’s so so much more control with this bike that I just love the way it rides. And for like the first time ever with a pedal assist ebike, I actually feel one with a bike and like it’s not dangerous and it’s not only that it’s pleasurable to ride. It just removes everything and seals it all within the motor in the back. Weatherproofed, out of sight. You can’t bend it on a rock. It’s just great. There hasn’t really been any major improvements that I can see, especially in hub drive motor technology anytime that I can think of. Nothing that majorly changes how a hub drive works. It combines the the best of hub drive and mid drive together in one package. So, you’ve got the gearing of a mid drive, but then you haven’t got the metal chain, the derailer. This is set up in kilometers an hour at the moment, but I’m pedaling away in first gear. There you go. It’s gone up into second and then it’s gone up into third. Just a little tiny little metal clunk that you can just about hear and it sounds really good quality. It’s very hard to portray, but it I just really enjoy how this thing rides. You guys might be asking, why have I got two of these bikes in this video today? Well, Ado sent me the first one you saw, and I liked it so much that I’ve got the gray one for myself. City bikes are not my cup of tea, if I’m honest, and neither are dull, boring ebike reviews droning on about the fact it’s got a bell on the handlebars. I’m going to be setting myself a challenge today. I’ve got a bunch of parts in the shed behind me and we’re going to see if in an hour or less I could completely transform how this bike looks and the image of it being a boring dorky city commutery bike which some people might like but not Hey, heat. Heat. Heat. Right, guys. Mods are all done. And I actually love this bike now. Like, I was really impressed with how it rode and now I’m impressed by the amazing modifications I’ve done to it. It doesn’t look like a dorky city bike. It’s more me. Yeah, you guys have got the options of keeping it standard or personalizing your bikes. And it did take me an hour to do all the bits on it. But I got to be honest, I f around for about an hour or two after I changed the brown seat back to black cuz it was more comfortable and clashed with the purple pedals when it was brown. The rear light was one of my favorite mods. I removed that off the rack. managed to get the cable out of the it was like in a channel in the mud guard. It was a bit of a pain in the ass. I had to bend the metal with a screwdriver, remove the cable. Fitted the light using part of the rear rack to the seat. Genius. Absolute genius. Genius. I actually really like it. It functions and just little things took time afterwards. I messed around for like, like I said, a good hour or two. It had a metal bracket which came down to about here with a ugly red reflector on it. I literally took this off the seat and hacksawed through it and just made it more compact and kind of neat and minimalistic. But I’ve still got a brake light, rear light, automated indicators, but they’re just under the seat. Now, this is going to be staying in the fleet of uh under the radar 250 W ebikes are actually enjoyable to ride without a throttle. And that is quite a big thing in itself. This is actually the world’s first ebike apparently with fully integrated automatic transmission. That’s pretty cool. We’re going up a slight incline now and very little effort. I’ve got the torque sensing if I want to push a bit harder. It really does step it up straight into second gear. So, it accelerates better than a standard hub drive because it kind of utilizes the best of both worlds of mid drives, hub drives, bike gears, but puts it all in a maintenancefree efficient package. And they say up to 74% less human effort required to use this motor, which is amazing. and in turn even the battery range 100 km 60 miles because it utilizes the motor more efficiently. The pedaling cut out at 25 kmh then going downhill and I rolled up to 29. The bike itself is decent when you see it in this stripped down form. You can see that the frame is actually really interesting. The slope on the top tube, the integrated battery. When you start looking more into this bike, it does have a lot of features and a lot going for it. And even on light off-road dirt tracks, I think this will work quite well as a a gravel bike with the correct tires. Speaking of which, they’re actually puncher resistant as standard. So, that’s pretty decent. You got a suspension seat post, the comfort, the fact it’s got no suspension. It is more of a city bike. This is a well-built bike and a well-designed bike. Well thought out. There’s much more features to this bike as well. You got a three and a half inch smart full color smart display. It’s got smart features which you can get a year trial on it and after that it’s £15 a year. But with that you’ve got full GPS anti- theft detects movement for the price a year cheaper than the bike lock. Hydraulic disc brakes which are good out the box. The bike itself weighs 20 kg, which isn’t bad at all. And I think it doesn’t even look like an ebike. Like a lot of people just think it’s a normal bike. You got no throttle, no worries with the law in the UK. This is it then, guys. A 250 W ebike that is finally worth having in my opinion. Check out the link in the video description for Ado’s website.
