BMW’s 3 Series remains seriously desirable. Is the plug-in hybrid 330e the pick of the range?
Tada. Love it. Always love this about the 3 series Touring. It’s such a useful little feature. BMW has just updated its G20 BMW 3 series, the current generation. Very successful car. And it is this one, the 330e plug-in hybrid that has had the biggest change because BMW has managed to shoehorn in almost double the usable battery capacity that it had previously. So, it’s now got 19 1.5 kW hours of battery, which is good for an official range of up to 63 mi in the saloon, 60 mi in the touring. Now, I don’t know about you, I personally prefer the looks of the 3 series Touring, the estate to the saloon. I pretty much prefer estates to saloons generally, to be fair. You might think I’m mad. I’m told that lots of people think that estates are all kind of a bit too old-fashioned. I love them. And in the 330e, you get a pretty decent boot. You get 410 L. My favorite feature of all. Check this out. I don’t know why more cars don’t do this because, tada. Love it. Always love this about the 3 series Touring. It’s such a useful little feature. Is this a proper 3 series? Well, stick it in sport down here. Yeah, it’s a proper 3 series. You know, it is. Yes, it’s got that battery. Yes, it’s a bit heavier. I would even argue that maybe even the standard 320 is a tiny bit sweeter handling just cuz it is lighter. But this 330e, despite that extra weight, is still pretty good. It just feels like a proper 3 series. Got really nice poise to it, which is what you want, isn’t it? That’s what the 3 series is famous for. It’s the driver’s choice in the executive car class and it definitely lives up to that. I particularly like there’s a there’s a mode here. So, you go to sport mode and then it’s got extra boost. Excellent. We like that. It’s just well sorted. It’s a very organic feeling car to drive. It is basically exactly what you want a plug-in hybrid 3 series to be. Fun yet classy and very techy. Spot on.
