Mustang Challenge Road America Race 1 and 2 Highlights | Ford Performance

That’s another pull position for Robert Noya in the RNR. Robert Noka racing team. Devin Anderson is alongside for tech sport. Sandy Satoul for RNR backs up his team leader in third. Right behind him in second row of the grid. Then Sam Paley on the outside in the number 26. On row three, Marcus Vento for Mccumbi Malleier Racing. Alex Bashura first of the Dark Horse Legends in a very creditable sixth position for Spark Performance. The cars are identical. The two classes are split by the age and experience of the drivers. One thing I will tell you, at a little after 8:00 in the morning, Central time, this is a fantastic alarm call for all of you here camping at America’s National Park of Speed Race one of two of the Mustang Challenge here at the Mul Sports Car Grand Prix, one of IMSA’s blue reband events. Good run to the line and a jump away from the number 13 of Robert Noinker in the blue and white car to the pit wall side of that long climbing pit straight. He gets away and brings Sandy Satulo in the red, white and black car through with him or the one with the more white on the nose of that car. It’ll be side by side with Deon Anderson as they go through in second and third. Anderson goes wide and there’s a touch there and Ran goes Satul and he’s right in the middle of the pack. This is going to be huge conflictation also involved Alonso Diaz the textport second place in the legend. There’s at least two or three cars in there. The stars and stripes. Alonso Diaz car. Sandy Satulo went round as well. That was the catalyst I think. Safety car is out. So, Robert Noka will have to do it again, but this time in a single file restart as they turn through the final right handle at 14. And he’s on the power early as everyone else was still with their front wheels turn. That’s a copy boot restart. He’s defending to the inside. There’s nobody there. Robert, you’re defending fresh air at the minute. Mate, you can go straight back to the racing line. The battle is for second and third as Sam Paleley drags up behind Deon Anderson. He’ll get down the inside. And this is a repeat of what we saw at the original start where Anderson’s going to have to tough it out on the outside. And he does exactly the same thing. They’re both miles off the track. So a Pura and Marcos Vento behind him and through I think goes Ted Brit and gets a two for there. That number 98 car up into fourth place. That was an awesome piece of opportunist overtaking. Wow. That is I mean a quite remarkable start for Robert Noer. And on the opposite side, Devin Anderson really half asleep there. And Sam Paleley, double winner here last year in car number 26, was determined to make the most of it. And he did. But here comes Anderson very, very deep on the brakes coming down the hill. And is he going to get it done? Oh, that’s a fantastic move there from Devon Anderson through turn five. Goes around the outside of Saley. Pale is coming back at him again. Oh, this is wonderful racing. Oh, off on the grass. And a problem. Deon Anderson I think has a problem possibly a puncture. He’s got the car off. Meanwhile, there will be uh I think two well ear drive-thru penalty. Air drive-thru penalty for Sandy Satulo who takes it immediately uh with the incident with Alonso Diaz Bura leader in the dark horse wants a place on the overall podium. Peter, you’ve said his results this year good enough for second place in the overall championship and he wants an overall podium again here at Road America. Yes, he does. Yeah, that he does. Yeah, because you look at Deon Anderson in third and Sandy Shulu in fourth. Both not finishing the race. So, another opportunity for Bakura to Well, now who into the is that Zan Peely going into the pits? Yeah, Zanely in the pits. at a drive-thru for incident responsibility with the number 22 Devin Anderson. Wow. Down the inside, Zach Lee in that downhill breaking area at was effectively turn number three. Apologies that we didn’t finish off under the green flag, but those of you who can’t see the incident down at turn five, it was a pretty scary one for Sam Paley. He’s fine. But we have lost then Sam Paley, Scott Thomas, Deon Anderson, Sandy Satulo, and Alonso Diaz in incidents. Noka takes it in the dark horse class. In second overall, Alex Bashura takes the legends ahead of Darkhorse. Marcus Vento second in his class, third overall. Tate Prit, Corbyn Collins, and Doug Peterson make up the top five in Darkhorse. Zack Lee got up into second place, remember in the number 48 after just missing out on that huge incident lap one, turn one. That was a great drive back from Zach in the silver 48 ahead of Drew Noah who’s in eighth and third in the DHL class. Paulo Salvator holds on to a top 10 position in ninth. Beautiful lineup as we come to the green flag with 45 minutes on the clock. Let’s fingers crossed for a better start than yesterday. The pole man gets away nicely with Sandy Satulo following him through after yesterday’s problems for that number seven car. The Robert Noakine will go into the first corner first and second. Robert just sort of defends the outside there maybe to help Sandy. This is a carbon copy of what we saw yesterday, but everybody gets through with Alex Bashura making a good run from fifth into fourth. Saw the inside lane, the oddnumbered lane behind the pool center. Robert Noaga got the best start through turn one, two, and three under the Sarentto bridge. We have all 18 cars with Colin Harrison having not started in the tech sport car, Peter. And that at least gives us the run down to turn five. Another action area for everyone at the moment still running with just on 44 minutes to go. Biggest braking zone on the circuit here, 150 mph. They hit the brakes there and down the manual gearbox. H pattern shifts here with rev matching with which all of the top drivers are using them as well. You hear the little pop and bang from the Borla exhaust. That’s that rev matching option there working really, really well as Saley having to make moves early. He’s already made four or five positions for the back of the grid and he’s got to get a move on early. Oh, problem problem for Sutulo again. What’s happened to Sandy Sutulo? He’s going slow. Many cars running past him. What has happened to number seven, the white and red car of Sandy Satulo? And now it’s side by side with Tate Brit and number 26 of Sam Paley that is coming through. My apologies. S Paley, remember who started at the back because of that chassis change after that huge incident at turn five yesterday. really underlining the safety and strength of these cars. Air Paley coming through the field already up to 11th uh and coming through the field and make that eighth position now in that red, white and blue number 26. Well, we said it was bad news for him, Peter. Good news for us. This is the entertainment we were hoping for as we go back to green with just on 26 minutes still remaining and Robert Noaker looks like he’s been shot out of a steam catapult from the deck of an aircraft carrier. He absolutely nailed the reef start and takes a half second lead which is big into turn one down the inside Deon Anderson and Alex Pashura scrambling it out with the light the color car of Deon just holding swear there of the green number 33 who is the dark dark horse legends leader where did Sam Paley get to he was seventh across the line he’s already up to Zachary Lee that’s the battle for fifth they’re side by side So Corbyn Collins is being dispatched by the charging Paley who for the moment has dropped in behind the silver bullet number 48. Flashing of the headlights which everybody knows gives you at least 5 horsepower more. Kidding down the inside to turn five that has become a ply signature move in race two. And you’ve got to give him some credit here Peter for the mindset. You mentioned it earlier on. That’s where he had the big accident yesterday. He’s still the last of the late breakers there today. That’s confidence in the car and in himself. And it’s such a great spot to try and make the move because you slow the car down from 150 to 50 mph. And here’s another one coming down into hurry down. And Alex Bashura doesn’t fight it too hard. Um gives the the racing space and Paley comes through like a absolute like a steam train. He’s now up into fourth position and his next target is Marcus Vento. The podium is absolutely on here for Saley. Still got 24 minutes left. Jura’s got the move done. He’s got got a great run out the final corner and back up into fourth position over Marcus Vento. Amazing stuff from Alex Bura. There he goes round the outside. Sam Paley into turn one and dispatches Deon Anderson. And again, it’s a super clean move. He was behind him for a little over a lap. And now, write this down somewhere. 3 and 12 seconds the gap between Sam Paley and Robert Noka. 18 and 12 minutes to go. We are getting a green white checker finish to race two here at America’s National Park speed. And again, Noka gets on the accelerator nice and early, but Sam Paley was wise to it. Noa weaving right and left trying to break the toe but Paley’s there. Deon Anderson not that far back either. Green flag. It’s a twolap dash for the points and the honor round the outside from Paley. He’s not really going to get there but he’ll do the cut back down the inside. We’ve seen him overtake into turn three at the bottom of the hill. That’s what he’s trying to do again. He’s on the quarter panel of the leader. No. Here he comes. But no, drops back in. He takes the better line. Now turn five. He’s got this lap and one more. Looks like Alice Bashura. No, it wasn’t Alex Bashura. It was Sandy Satulo, I think, who’s back up into the top six. He went a little bit wide there and onto the grass in the number seven car. Recovers. No is wise to Paley. Goes down the left hand side of the track. That’ll allow the cut back here. And there’s a little nudge on Paley from Deon Anderson as he missed his breaking point by a foot or so. might have cost Sam Paley an opportunity into turn number six. Flat out through seven. Next overtaking point down the marine down the hurry downs, excuse me, into turn number eight. But I don’t think Peter that Pale’s quite there yet. No, he’s he’s putting himself in the right position. He’s just No, Acre’s just too good on the brakes. Um just when Oh, a wide there for Paley. That’s going to cost some time surely coming out of turn eight and into nine. just dipped a couple of wheels on the grass that caused a bit of momentum as they come around the carousel and that’s given Noka a very very valuable car length or so. Just the tiniest of errors can make such a difference but still a lap and a half to go. Robert Noeka cool calm and collecting another win here unless he makes a mistake in the next four corners. You just can’t see it though. Even with the vigories, even with the oddities, the drama that IMSA racing and the Ford Performance Mustang Challenge has brought down this second season of racing only. It’s second uh rece uh multiple track limits for the dark horse challenge leader. the Jock horse uh legends leader Bashura is going to get 10 seconds and that’s going to cost him the win here because Alonso Diaz in second. What a uh recovery drive and redemption drive that is. He’s only 4 seconds behind our possibly five will work that out at the line because the Alcheml system will do that for us. So drama right at the end for the fourth place car leading Darkhorse Legends leading the race and it’s another clean sweep. Paul fastest lap win for Robert Noka. I might as well record that and put it on a loop for the end of these races. Robert Noka extends his championship lead again. Drive of the day. Sam Paley in second place. got to be a contender from the back of the grid in a borrowed Robert Noka racing car is through to second with Deon Anderson holding on to the third spot in the dark horse. Across the line in fourth was Alex Bashura, but that penalty will take him all the way down to 12th position and fifth in Darkhorse Legends. That’s when a late race caution doesn’t help you, Peter, if you’ve got a penalty. And so Alonso Diaz will win legends after a horrible day for him yesterday. Drama and excitement all the way to the end and the green white checker finish. Still Robert Noka is unbeaten this season.
