How-To: Tips to Get the Most Out of BMW High-Power Charging.
Did you know that fast-charging and fast charging isn’t always the same? Charging at a high-power charging station is the most effective way to recharge your BMW as quickly as possible, but the charging performance when doing so can vary quite a bit. It depends on the maximum available charging performance of the charging station and your vehicle. There’s even a trick how you can tell. Just take a look at the charging display. If the right side of the power bar is dashed, the infrastructure is limiting the charging power, meaning the issue is with the charging station, not your vehicle. If the right side of the bar is just a thin line, your vehicle is currently limiting the charging power. So here are some tips to get the most out of any fast-charging process. One. Use powerful charging stations. Not every DC charging station offers the same charging performance. In the BMW navigation system in your car and in the My BMW App, you can filter your charge-point searches by charging power. Two. Avoid crowded charging parks. Look for a charging station where no other vehicle is charging. When several vehicles are charging at the same charging station, the power from the grid is distributed to the different outlets and can be reduced. Three. Charge up from low states of charge. We recommend an initial state of charge under 30% for the best results. The lower the state of charge, the higher the recharged range within a certain time span. But remember: to keep your battery fit, avoid draining it below 10%. Four. Warm up your battery at low temperatures. For a good charging performance at a DC charging station the high voltage battery needs to be at a certain operating temperature. Use the battery pre-conditioning function or just navigate with BMW navigation to the DC station you want to use. Your vehicle will preheat the battery automatically.
