Chinese Brand Reveals EV with over 1000 km range & 1200kw 5 min charging
This is interesting news. A Chinese car company have confirmed range of their EVs next year will be over 1,000 km by using solid state batteries. But what I find interesting about this story is, you know, manufacturers have been saying this for a while now, but this company Dongfang, I actually owned one of their EVs a while back, but um they they have revealed the actual technology in their solid state batteries. It’s kind of unusual for manufacturers to do that. So, here are the details. Here’s the actual architecture they’re going to use. I think um this could actually be legitimate. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Great to have you with us. Dongfang, they hosted their strategic planning and product launch event in Wuhan. And they say that um next year they will have electric cars that will use solid state batteries will be for sale next year and the batteries will use a silicon carbon and high nickel combination combined with high conductivity solid electrolytes. According to Dongfang, this setup will enable very very high energy density batteries. They’re saying around 400 W hours per kilogram, meaning driving range will well and truly exceed 1,000 km. So it looks like um finally this is going to happen. Now apparently there will also be a 1,00 volt architecture potentially enabling charging speeds of up to 1,000 kW similar to what BYD are doing. Is this the future? Are we going to see this in more EVs? Yeah, we absolutely will. There will definitely be an avalanche of cars coming over the next 5 to seven years with solid state batteries and the ability to charge in 10 to 15 minutes. It maybe even less than that potentially. You just got to find the right charger. That’s the big issue there. Apparently, they are basically in partnership with Huawei and they’re developing a new premium vehicle line jointly. So, this could be a Huawei Dongfang car. Huawei’s ADAS is pretty good, as you’ve probably seen by the recent tests in China. Uh, they were second only to Tesla. So, really impressive performance from Huawei. What this means, 1,000 km of range or probably a bit more than that, but maybe 1,000 km in the real world. 1,000vt architecture. In fact, they’re saying the architecture will exceed 1,000 volts and the system will incorporate a 1,700 volt silicon carbide power module, a peak 12C charging rate. I mean, guys, literally, they’re saying the car will be able to charge at approximately 1,200 kW charging. and also the highest speed motor, electric motor, 30,000 RPM motor. Please explain to me why in a future, say fast forward 10 years from now, anyone in their right mind would want a hybrid. Think about this. 1,200 kW charging. This is not a premium brand, by the way. 1,200 kW charging, right? more than a th00and kilometers of range, 30,000 RPM motor, right? Running with Huawei technology. I mean, I’m not saying that I’m I’m desperately want this car or hey, I’m desperate for this car, but this is the kind of tech we’re going to see from multiple companies in the future, and I just failed to see why people really think internal combustion is going to be around in 2035. It just doesn’t add up. It’s like, it really is. The comparison really is more like comparing a horse to a car. It’s so different. The the future is going to be so different. Dongfang are also working on a dual megawatt fast charge system aimed at enabling 450 km of range replenishment in 5 minutes. So in other words, be able to add 450 km of range to the battery in 5 minutes. So the idea it sounds like to me from what Dongfang is saying, you’ll be able to charge the battery pack in two sectors. So, there’ll be two charging, you know, basically two charging points on the car. And this makes a lot of sense cuz there’s going to be very few 1,200 kW chargers in the world. There might be a few that, you know, like Tesla’s megawatt chargers that are capable of charging trucks, but not not very few for for EVs for quite a long time, but there’ll be a lot of 600 kW chargers in China. And around the rest of the world, there’ll be a lot of 400 kilowatt ones. So, be able to stick say four two 400 kW chargers into your car at the same time means theoretically you’ve got 800 kW charging or something like that anyway, which is unreal. The Dongfang brand will be divided into two product lines. They’re calling it the EN brand, I think. E some sort of looks like an N, but it’s got a dash. Let’s just call it Dongfang N. Divided into two product lines. The first is the mainstream technology series, and that includes a few different models. the Nano 01, the Nano06, the 007, and the 008. Weird that they’ve got a new Zikas. How’s Zika going to feel about this? Calling it the 007. That’s strange. Anyhow, they say they’re going to target younger techsavvy consumers with these models. The second series of models will be smart premium series co-developed with Huawei. And this new lineup will include a full-size SUV in 2026 with Huawei’s Harmony operating system, five ingenious cockpit, and basically a level four driver advanced safety system. Level four, which would mean the car will just drive itself anywhere and will be like a basically like a a Google robo taxi. Yeah. Is this real? Is that actually going to happen? Well, probably not next year, but it will eventually happen. So, I mean, that’s going to be the future. Dongfang, their Fang Shen brand. So, they’re going to have three different brands. Not Not that they want to confuse customers at all. Apparently, they will focus on small to midsize vehicles with a plan to launch or update at least two models per year and a total of 10 models by 2028. Now, international markets. They’re planning on selling their vehicles in 30 international markets by 2027. in both left and right hand drive. That means you can almost guarantee they’re aiming for markets like Thailand, Australia, the UK, uh potentially Japan for right-hand drive. And left-hand drive, of course, is most of the rest of the world. Two production models were unveiled um at an event yesterday, and the starting price was uh $23,900. Anyhow, kind of kind of a little bit confusing some of the information from Dongfang because they have so many models and brands and all this stuff and I’m I’m like looking at it going, how do I how do I work all this out? But who cares? The key takeaway here is this 1,200 volt architecture, 12C charging, which which would work out to about 1,200 kW charging and more than 1,000 km of range from a solidstate battery, which we actually know some of the details of how it works. Yeah. So maybe it’s real. Hopefully it’s real. Even if it’s is still in development, it will come eventually. But I think it sounds like they’re pretty far into development. And I think it sounds like it’s going to happen pretty soon. Let me know your thoughts and thanks for watching. [Music]
