This CHEAP e-Bike is a BARGAIN! Hitway BK6S Review

Could this be the budget friendly ebike that you’re looking for? [Music] There are loads of options out there if you’re shopping for an ebike. Uh we’ve featured a couple on this channel already. And sometimes you just want something that’s going to just do the job and doesn’t h need to have all the bells and whistles and is just going to get on with it. And actually, I think this is what we have here. Hitway very kindly offered to send me this, their BK6s folding ebike. And what really drew me into it when I was having a look at the specifications and stuff when they contacted me was it does just seem to be all very straightforward. It’s 100% UK legal, so 250 W motor, pedal assist only, no throttle, none of that stuff. Uh 15.5 mph top speed for the assistance, and it ticks all those boxes. if you just want something that actually is is road legal and is going to get you around getting from A to B. So, what I think will really appeal with this particular ebike, apart from its simplicity, is the price. At the time of filming, if you order it direct from Hitway’s website, it’s less than £700. And actually, if shopping around a little bit, I found you could actually buy it via AliExpress. Uh, it’s still shipped from the UK, not shipped from China, uh, for less than 600, which really does represent really, really good value for money. Now, I’m not going to rattle off all the brochure specs. I can put some on screen and and the link is in the description if you want to check it out. But it’s a 36V uh ebike and whatever their claimed range is uh I’m not sure. But let’s be honest, we know that the claimed range in ebike specs is always a little bit dubious, perhaps even more so than it is for a car. Uh I’ve done 62 miles on this bike now and not on a single charge. And uh in pedal assist 3, carting my large frame around, it’ll do sort of about 25 mi comfortably. You’d maybe push it to 30 uh on a single charge. So it is actually reasonably rangy. I’m sure that falls a little bit short of what the official figures are, but that gives you more of a a real world idea that if you’re aiming if you aim for sort of 25 miles, you’re not going to go far wrong. And actually, if you’re using a little bit less pedal assist or you’re a bit lighter, you’re going to see more range out of it, which means it’s going to sort of surpass your expectations. There’s no real point in looking at the official figure and expecting that because if that’s not what you’re going to get, you’re just going to be disappointed. And all in all, it seems pretty well built. Uh, as I say, well, it survived 60 mi of me riding it so far, and it’s doing pretty well indeed. Um, no real issues to report so far. Uh, it was pretty easy to put together. And actually, I really like that about this one. So, a lot of them you got to fuff about putting the front wheel on and all that, but because this is a folding model, it was folded in half in the box. Uh, so you unpack it, it’s already pretty much ready to go. Just need to put the seat on, put the handlebars on, put the pedals on, and it’s ready to go. So, dead dead easy to put together, and that really is quite nice. I’ve got another one coming uh from another manufacturer fairly shortly and assembling that was a right pain and you’ll need to keep an eye out for that next video to learn all about that. But not all ebikes are as easy to assemble as this one was is definitely the takeaway from that. In terms of how it rides, I tend to ride it everywhere in pedal assist 3. So it has like most of these do three levels of pedal assist. Uh, three obviously takes you all the way up to that 15.5 miles an hour. Uh, one and two are obviously slower. I think two is like 12 miles an hour and one is 9 miles an hour, something like that. I never use those two modes. Um, probably as I cycle more often and get a little bit fitter, I’d be more inclined to use those and then obviously use my own power to get back up towards that 15.5 mph or a bit faster. But for now, uh, I think this matches my fitness level quite well. So, I’m quite happy. It is absolutely lovely to ride though. Uh the it really does feel like you’re actually properly assisted. So, um although it does just have a cadence sensor rather than a torque sensor, which means that as soon as the pedals start turning, you get all of the assistance that’s available rather than a torque sensor, which gives you assistance based on how much effort you’re putting in. Uh but, uh it certainly um it feels very light and easy to ride. Uh now it’s not particularly light and I found that out the hard way. Um I used it like I do tend to one of the main uses I have for an ebike is to uh go to the auctions to pick up cars. So at BCA in Bristol it’s quite easy for me to cycle to Gloucester Station. Get on the train get to Bristol. Go to St. Andrews Road which is the nearest station to BCA and then cycle to BCA. fold the bike in half, chuck it in the back of whatever heap I’m picking up, and uh it, you know, makes things nice and easy. You don’t need to pay for any like taxis or any other onward transport. And it makes it a lot easier than walking at either end as well. You know, it’s a lot easier, a lot faster. Uh and actually serves that purpose really well. But where this one does come a little bit unstuck is the weight. So although it’s a folding one, uh it is not a light ebike. It’s not so one of these super light folding things that you can, you know, pick up and move around really easily. It does weigh the best part of 30 kilos. And in fact, I will put the the the actual weight from the brochure on the screen now, but I think 30 kilos is what sticks in my mind. And you definitely notice that if you’re trying to carry it up a bunch of stairs. Uh there’s a load of stairs at St. Andrew’s Road Station. Uh so you go up and from the platform, you go up a load of stairs over the platform and then down to the exit. And you certainly notice it carrying this thing up and down those stairs. So the weight I would say is definitely one of its disadvantages if you’re gonna have to be carrying it up and downstairs all the time. You mean if you live in a flat or whatever and and that’s your plan is to to take it in with you every night and carry up and down the stairs, you’ll need to think about whether that’s actually okay for you. Now, all right, if you’re relatively able-bodied, it’s not that bad. But if, you know, carrying weight upstairs and stuff is something you you struggle with, you’re going to want something a little bit lighter than this. Uh, it’s it’s maybe not going to cut the muster for you. I find absolutely fine. Uh, I’d rather it was lighter, obviously, but it does do the job. And I think the the benefit of that weight is it does feel really really sturdy when you’re actually riding. See, I’m definitely not light. uh and p push these things a little bit, you know, uh and and so it’s nice to it feels sturdy and it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s gonna fall apart on the road. So, um the weight can have its advantages, I guess, as well as its disadvantages. Mechanically, everything seems pretty good. Uh cable operated disc brakes front and rear, so no fancy hydraulics or anything. Again, that’s probably keeping the cost down. Uh but they work fine. They didn’t need an excessive amount of adjustment. I find sometimes with some of these Chinese ebikes that the the way the brakes are set up when you you unbox them is way out of touch with where they need to be and they need a lot of adjustment to get them sort of true and not binding and all that. This was absolutely spot on. Didn’t even need any adjustment at all. So, uh, that’s obviously set up pretty well in factory, which is good. Uh, and it sort of gives me the idea that they probably test it reasonably well before they fold it up and put it in the box, which not all manufacturers do based on the experiences I’ve had um trying to set these things up out of the box. So, I’d say that top marks to hit way on that one. Uh, minimal amount of of adjustment and maintenance you seem to need to do with them. Uh, the one only one thing I will say is um the rear derailer needs a little bit of adjusting now. uh sort of 60 miles in. One of the sort of gears is a little bit like to the sixth gear on this is just not quite there. I can get into fifth easily and seventh easily, but sixth is just not really there. So, I’m going to have to work out how to do that. I’m not a bicycle mechanic by any means. Uh so, I’m going to have to adjust that. It was fine to start with, but it it isn’t anymore. So, I’m guessing that’s uh an example of something that over time with a bit of wear on it is is just needing a bit of adjustment. But other than that, it’s absolutely superb. It’s holding up really well. I know 60 miles isn’t very much in the grand scheme of things, but I think it’s enough to give it a little bit of a shakeddown. Uh, and actually, if you’ve seen my recent video on my new Citroen Ammy, uh, 60 mi is less than it’s managed without developing the mechanical issues. So, uh, there you go. 600 quid ebike is better than a Citron could be the, uh, the takeaway from this. Uh, it certainly seems to be holding up a little bit better than Ammy has so far. So, make it that what you will. Looks like we’re going to get a little bit of rain, so I might need to wrap this filming up. But I mean, that really is all there is to it. That is the Hitway BK6s folding ebike. And I really do like it. And I’m sure I’ll put many many more miles on this one. I I think I it’s just so easy to use. And um apart from it being a little bit heavy when you’ve carrying it up downstairs and stuff, it’s it’s fine just getting in and out of the car, but it’s when you’ve got to, you know, hump it upstairs, it’s a bit of a a mission. But apart from that, I really do like it. I like riding it and and it is really really useful. So, I think it’s going to stick around. As I said earlier, there’s links in the description. If it’s something you’re interested in, you want to buy. Um, obviously, if based on this review, you you you’re not that keen either, then that’s also absolutely fine. I’m not here to sell you anything. I’m just here to tell you what my experience is. Um, the Hitway did send me this bike for free, but they did not influence the video at all. uh they haven’t told me what to say and they haven’t created this before it’s been published. Uh it is just what you see is what you get. Um if it was rubbish I would tell you but actually it seems like really good value for money to me. Uh and something that if actually if I had to buy another one um I probably would be having a look close look at these cuz it does seem like you get a decent amount of bike for your money. But that is it for this video. As always thank you so much for watching. Do let me know what you think of the Hitway BK6s in the comments and I will see you next time.

Hitway sent me their BK6S folding e-bike to review and, 60 miles in, I think it’s an absolute steal.
