How-To: The Perfect Public Charging Process with BMW Charging.
Charging at a public charging station isn’t just one of the first steps for any Electric BMW driver. It’s also as easy as it gets. Well, first thing we need, obviously, is a charging station. You can find them with your My BMW App. Either by direct search in the Map tab or when you enter a destination that’s outside your current range the charging optimized route feature shows you suitable charging points along your way. And the same goes for finding charging stations in the navigation system of the car. Let’s go! Oh, of course, ther are detailed how-to videos about finding and choosing charging stations. Now let’s go. And when you arrive at the charging station, you need to authenticate as a client. Again there are several options. Driving an electric BMW, ideally you would have a BMW Charging account. If you don’t, watch our other video how to get an activate one. Many newer Electric BMW models offer Plug&Charge, which is the easiest and most convenient way to authenticate at a ChargePoint. If you’ve activated Plug&Charge for your car – How to videos the word – the goodbye screen offers it automatically when you switch off the car at an enabled charging station. Then you just get the attached DC cable, or plug in your AC cable at the station and in the car. With Plug&Charge, the car authenticates itself automatically and charging starts just like that. But, of course, there are other options as well, if you don’t have Plug&Charge or if the station doesn’t offer it. After plugging in, you either hold your charging card to the reader or – well, who uses only physical cards nowadays – you scan the QR code at the station and authenticate via my BMW App. Just keep in mind there’s usually a 60 second timeout between plugging in and authentication. If you let that exceed, you need to re-plug. The charging cable locks automatically. And there you go. Enjoy the energy When you’re done, if your battery is full or your recommended charging target of 80% is met, or if you just want to stop charging, unlock the car. For newer models like this one, just press the charging cable release button in the flap. Unplug. And on we go. See? Quite easy, isn’t it?
