2025 BYD Sealion 6 PHEV Review – Why is it the best-selling hybrid in the Philippines
In the past, affluent but practical people used to go for the likes of the Toyota Innova as their car of choice. But with the proliferation of hybrid vehicles, this car right beside me seems to be the new choice. This is the 2025 BYD Cline 6DMI. In this video, let’s see why this car is the bestselling hybrid in the Philippines. I guess the first point that we do have to talk about is its exterior looks because undeniably the BYDC Line 6 does look really good and sharp and modern, too. Look at your hood right here. It really does slope down to form like a sharper angle right here by the front uh fascia. You have nice set of sharp LED headlamps. It even forms a C-shape right there. There’s also a lot of nice silver accents by your bumper on the side too. There’s no weird lines. It just is very proportional. And the size of this vehicle is really great, too. Even though it’s officially classified as a compact SUV, it’s honestly inching a little bit closer to a midsize SUV, it is pretty large. Now, look at your side mirrors right here. There is an NFC logo. This vehicle is also very advanced because you can lock and start this vehicle just by using an NFC key card. And there’s even the BYD Connect app which you can link to your smartphone. And you can also just tap your smartphone over here and also there by the center console which will again lock, unlock, and even start up your BYDC Line 6. Really, really modern. Now, your rims too didn’t cheap out right here. So, you get 19in rims. Also has a two-tone effect, and it’s even wrapped in a set of GT comfort tires. The rear looks pretty nice, too. I mean, it’s not too in yourrface. A lot of these affluent families, I think they really like lowkey looking vehicles. And the BYDC Lion 6 really does look like that. While it does look a little bit modern and a little bit sporty, it’s not too It doesn’t come out too strong. There is a shark fin antenna on the top as well as the spoiler effect, but other than that, the only thing you get here are a set of uh light bars, but you don’t have like extreme dual or quad exhaust unlike some of the other Chinese cars in this class. Now, as you open up the power tailgate, you also see that space here is great. There’s huge amounts of space for cargo here at the back. And those rear seats can even fold down 60/40. You’ll also see that there is a rear-mounted subwoofer here. And if you lift up this false floor, there’s even extra storage. There’s even space to put in your portable charger as well as your V2L adapter. I guess the next reason would be the fact that it is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. So, the charging port is right here, and you’ll see that it uses a type 2 socket, which means you can practically charge this anywhere in the Philippines. So, now the range, it’s great. It has a total combined range of 1,188 km on a single charge and on a full tank of gas. For your pure EV range, BYD Cars Philippines claims 105 km on a single charge, but based on our tests, 88 km, that still isn’t bad at all. that is perfect for your daily commutes inside Metro Manila. Next up would be the powertrain. So, as you lift up this hood, you don’t really see anything because everything’s covered under this plastic cover. But what you have here is a 1.5 L gasoline engine mated to an electric motor and an 18 kWh battery giving you 217 horsepower and 325 Newton me of torque. That is excellent for the size and weight of the BYDC Lion 6. In terms of fuel economy, obviously if you use pure EV mode, well, you’re going to get practically unlimited kilometers per liter. But if you set this vehicle into its hybrid mode and in normal mode and you just let the computers do everything, you’re looking at around 20 km per liter inside heavy city traffic and 15.9 km per liter on the highway. That’s excellent, too. Now, inside the BDC Line 6, you check the door. Sounds pretty good, too. So, inside here, you’ll be surprised because this vehicle, it isn’t exactly the most expensive, but the materials are actually really good. They’re not like topnotch, but if you look at your dashboard, this center area, and even your doors, and even the seats, they’re all covered in some nice leather material. Again, it’s not the softest in the world, but it still is leather nonetheless. And there still is a lot of stitching right here. You also notice that the cabin color, actually, depending on the exterior color that you get, you’re going to have a different interior. You can either have it with this beige or you can have it with something a little bit darker. Now, anyway, those aside, you have a nice steering wheel right here that is tilt and telescopic. You got so much buttons right here that control practically everything. This infotainment screen by the center, honestly, it’s not the easiest to use at first because you can’t really control, let’s say, your AC settings immediately, especially when you’re using Apple CarPlay. But if you go back to your steering wheel buttons, you can even control your AC from that. So that is the workaround for the kind of intricate infotainment system that you have. Now for your screens, there is a 12.3 in digital instrument cluster and then that uh 15.6 in rotating center touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And you can even use your browser right here to go to Facebook, to go to YouTube, to other streaming websites. You can do it all through this one in the center. There’s even a 360° view camera which is quite clear. And now we’re going to cut real quick to the Stingray Karaoke function. What’s very interesting about the BYDC Lion 6 and practically any modern BYD including the seagull, the hand, the dolphin, the seal 5 is that it actually comes with a karaoke function. So you’ll see it here in an infotainment screen. It’s called Stingray Karaoke. Just click on that and then now you can sing with your favorite KTV song. So let’s click that right now. And as you can see now we can have KTV right here. The lyrics will show up right here. And in case you’re not that good at singing, you can even turn on the backing track option. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars will be singing with you. I’ll pause that first for copyright reasons. But what I want to emphasize here is that you can even use this while driving sort of for safety reasons. The lyrics won’t show up. But if you click this passenger QR option, your passenger can scan that on their phone and the lyrics will show up on the phone for safety reasons. So they can still sing along even while you are driving. Again, this works for basically any modern BYD. And they even come in pairs. And one more thing, there’s even like an applause option that you can do or like a kissing sound that you can do. It is a full karaoke setup. You can even change up like your reverb settings, your recording studio sound, your KTV sound, music hall sound, or even just your original voice if you are into that. So, if you’re interested in getting this uh mic setup too, it’s very easy to install and you can find it in the products page uh products link down below. Now, with the karaoke function out of the way, we go back to the interior of the BYDC Lion 6. So, this center area comes with dual wireless charging pads, 15 watt. So, not the slowest, but not the fastest either. You have a nice crystalall-like shifter. You get your switches for your EV mode, your hybrid mode, as well as your eco, normal, and sport mode. And everything just feels quality in here. There’s even ambient lighting. You get Infiniti branded audio, which sounds pretty good. You get a full ADA suit, and the seats are also pretty comfortable and power adjustable for both the driver as well as the passenger. Now, we move on towards the rear passenger space, and we check the door again. Sounds really good too. So again, going back to those uh practical affluent families, a lot of them will have chauffeers as well, right? And what they value a lot would be space. And you can really feel the space here at the back. It’s huge. This is set to my driving position. I am not the tallest. I am only 5’6 tall. But seriously, I don’t care if you’re like 59, 510, 6 ft tall and you’re seated behind yourself, you will have more than enough space back here. It is that spacious. And the same does go for headroom despite having a big panoramic sunroof. In terms of the width, too, it’s not bad. So, seating a third person back here is also really good, making it a very practical vehicle. And even get your own two rear air vents unlike a lot of brands which don’t give you air vents or just give you one air vent. You have your own USBA port, USBC port. You have a center armrest with two cup holders. You can even hold on, let me find it. recline these rear seats and they go back a good amount too and even have privacy glass at the back. Again, it simply makes sense. So, now we drive the BYYD Cine 6DMI and driving this is great. Again, it is just great. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it for the most part. I will get into very minor things about it, but let’s start off the things that are supremely well on the head. Number one would be the comfort because it’s a pretty quiet car overall. I mean, we’ve come to expect that from electric vehicles that they are quiet, but even if the gasoline engine does cut in once in a while, it still is pretty quiet in here. And the transition between full EV to hybrid mode is also really smooth, unlike what you get in a lot of Japanese brands. With this one, it’s seamless. Power is quite quick. Uh 0 to 100 time codes you around 8.3 seconds. Honestly, it feels much faster than that. Perhaps like 7.9 or 8 seconds. And also, the power delivery is again, it’s smooth whether you’re in hybrid mode or EV mode. Power is linear, but at the same time, the torque is also instant. It’s also pretty compliant for the most part here inside. Uh there’s a lot of firmness though to the suspension. And it does get quite choppy if there are a lot of small bumps on the road. And the bigger bumps, it handles it a little bit better. But yeah, it just doesn’t like those multiple small bumps. Overall, you feel the the body kind of move around a lot. The steering is also a little bit too light. But high accident zone ahead. But I’m pretty sure that for most people who buy this, they will enjoy this light steering system. Don’t worry though, when you do take it up on the highway, it does tighten up a lot, which gives you a lot of reassurance. Next, I would like to talk about the BYD’s advanced driver assistance system functions because it’s great. It’s smooth. It is also very responsive with one exception, the lanekeeping assist. I don’t know if it’s software issue, but for some reason, it loves giving you a right side bias. So instead of keeping you in the center of the lane, for example, the Sea Lion 6 wants to put you as much as it can to the right side of the lane markings and in rare times too, it just magically pulls you out of the lane. So yeah, that’s a little bit of a safety issue. I hope that the software update could fix that and if they do, the ADUs overall would be great. Finally, I want to talk about the road noise because this comes with a set of U GT comfort tires and GT comfort tires uh they’re generally great. I love GT Comfort tires, but here they’re a little bit loud. So, I would assume it would be the floor insulation of the C Lion 6. It’s not as loud. It’s nowhere near as loud as what you would get with Hond’s or even the CRV, but that is that one part aside from the suspension that they can definitely improve on. handling. Uh, it is a pretty large car, so don’t expect it to handle the best. However, for its size, it handles pretty okay. If you compare this to a lot of the bigger compact SUVs and the smaller midsize SUVs such as the RAV 4, for example, or again the CRV, this one handles a lot better. At 1,548,000 pesos, the BYB Cine 6 DMI simply makes sense. We now truly understand why this vehicle is the car of choice, the go-to car for so much practical and affluent people. It makes sense in every single way from its efficiency, its looks, its size, and even its drive to a certain extent. It may not be the perfect vehicle. There are other better vehicles in its class, but again, at that price, this vehicle represents excellent value for money. So, if you’re looking for a plug-in hybrid with five seats and great space overall, then the BYYD Cine 6DMI is one great car to consider.
