Watch out BYD! Geely prepares its new Starray plug-in hybrid SUV for Oz.
J just launched in Australia with its EX5 electric car and this is its follow-up act. It’s the Star EMI plug-in hybrid. It uses a petrol engine and an electric motor to make 193 kW. It uses just 2.4 L per 100 km and it can drive up to 83 km on electric power alone. One of the big selling points about this car is the tech. And so there’s lots of nifty features like camping mode here, which enables vehicle to load, but also cracks the windows, keeps the air con going. So if you want to put a mattress in the back and have a snooze, you can do that, too. It has Apple CarPlay, but Android Auto will be available later via an overtheair update. One of the beauties about this car is it’s built on J’s electric car platform, which means it gets a completely flat floor, which is great for backseat passengers. Julie hasn’t revealed prices yet, but expected to be close to the BYD Caline 6 at about 42,000 plus on road costs.
