2025 DS 7 Plug-in Hybrid OVERVIEW: The French SUV That’s Beating German Rivals?
DS 7 Plug-in Hybrid YouTube Description
Taking my first look at the 2025 DS 7 plug-in hybrid, the French luxury SUV that’s trying to shake up the premium family car market. This isn’t your typical SUV review because the DS 7 E-Tense brings some serious surprises to the table.
The DS 7 plug-in hybrid comes in three different power configurations, with the range-topping E-Tense 4×4 360 delivering an impressive 355 horsepower through its combination of petrol engine and dual electric motors. The sweet spot in the range is the E-Tense 225 model that produces 222 horsepower and can sprint from zero to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds, making it more than capable for daily driving needs.
What makes the 2025 DS 7 stand out is its focus on luxury and technology rather than just raw performance. The interior features premium Alcantara trim even on entry-level models, something you won’t find in competing German SUVs like the Audi Q3 or BMW X1. The 12-inch infotainment touchscreen can be completely customized with widgets, while the 12.3-inch digital driver display shows everything from navigation maps to hybrid system information.
The plug-in hybrid system starts in pure electric mode for silent urban driving, perfect for school runs and city commuting. When you need extra performance, the petrol engine seamlessly kicks in, though the automatic gearbox can be hesitant during rapid acceleration demands. The more powerful 300 and 360 variants offer quicker responses with 0-62 mph times of 5.9 and 5.6 seconds respectively.
Practicality wise, the DS 7 offers 555 liters of boot space regardless of which plug-in hybrid variant you choose, as the batteries don’t compromise cargo capacity. Front seat space is generous with extensive electric adjustment options, though rear passengers might find the seating position slightly compromised due to the high floor height.
The Active Scan suspension system available on four-wheel-drive models uses camera technology to read the road surface and adjust damping accordingly. This helps deliver a more comfortable ride than many German rivals, especially when cruising on motorways, though the largest 21-inch wheels can still transmit some road imperfections into the cabin.
Pricing for the DS 7 plug-in hybrid starts competitively against premium German SUVs, though depreciation rates are significantly higher than established rivals. For company car drivers, the plug-in hybrid variants offer substantial benefit-in-kind tax savings thanks to their low CO2 emissions figures, particularly the E-Tense 225 model.
Standard equipment across the DS 7 range is comprehensive, including 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, electric tailgate, heated windscreen, automatic LED headlights, parking sensors, reversing camera, and heated electric seats. Higher trim levels add features like massaging seats, premium leather, and advanced driver assistance systems.
The DS 7 represents an interesting alternative to mainstream premium SUVs, offering distinctive French design, comprehensive hybrid technology, and luxury features at a competitive starting price. However, questions remain about long-term value retention and overall refinement compared to established German competitors.
