Alright, today we’re driving the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4MATIC SUV. Now, what makes this one special is that it’s the first plug-in hybrid in the GLE 450 lineup. It combines a turbocharged engine with electric boost, which makes for a pretty unique driving experience.
Now under the hood, we’ve got a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo engine paired with plug-in hybrid tech, and together they produce 381 horsepower. That’s more than the regular GLE 450, which comes with a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo and mild hybrid setup, making 375 horsepower.
But—and here’s the thing I know a lot of you are thinking—the regular GLE 450 has a six-cylinder engine, while this hybrid… has a four-cylinder. And yet, both models start at the exact same price: $71,350 MSRP. Kinda makes you raise an eyebrow, right?
Performance-wise though, this GLE 450e still moves. It’s quick, responsive, and you get the benefit of some pure electric driving too, which is great for short commutes or city cruising.
Inside, it’s as luxurious and tech-forward as you’d expect. You’ve got MBUX Infotainment, the intuitive voice assistant, a clean, spacious layout—it’s very user-friendly. Comfortable, quiet, and a true luxury feel, especially for long drives.
So aside from that engine difference and the hybrid capability, everything else is pretty much the same between the GLE 450 and the 450e.
