So zoomers and alphas were raised by iphones and ipads and all technology. However, zoomers are mostly young adults now either in college or graduating and for the most part are still broke and driving a crappy 10-year-old (and older) car that was either a hand me down or they saved to buy it. Alphas are just children for the most part so they’re not even old enough for a license.
Anyways, for a while now, a lot of cars have been putting these technology gimmicks that would mostly appeal to young people who *cannot* afford these brand new shiny cars at all. For example:
– These all-touch HVAC and infotainments, let’s be real, they’re not ergonomic and takes time off of driving for the simplest thing like tuning the radio or raising the temperature. These are clear gimmicks aimed at those who were born and raised by iphones and ipads. Millennials grew up with both analog technology and modern tech, anecdotal but most millennials like myself prefer simple HVAC with buttons and dials.
– Wireless chargers, pretty gimmicky and seems like they don’t work half the time.
– Panoramic sunroofs tend to be leaky after a while. At least regular sunroofs tend to be pretty solid for the most part and are easier to fix if they get leaky.
… there are a few more things I can’t think of but you get the point. A lot of brand new cars offer these gimmicks that, imo, just make a car seem like a toy waiting to be broken. Just my $0.02
PS: yes I know having all things in one screen is a lot cheaper than separate buttons and dials.

It’s not aimed at gen z
Tech sells. Period. Regardless of demographic
An automaker released a new model without new tech is viewed as far behind thr other brands and is a negative impact on sales
>aimed and gen Z and Alpha
wtf are you talking about dude? Alphas are 0-14 years old. No car company is targeting 0-14 year olds.
“old man yells at cloud”
As a “young person” (I’m the oldest of “zoomers”) who recently purchased a new car…
1. All touch air conditioning… nobody likes this I’m sure. It’s cheaper for the manufacturers. I chose my car to avoid this specifically.
2. Wireless chargers… genuinely useful and they do work…
3. Sunroofs.. people like light, I don’t think this is exclusive to young people.
Add to this that in my anecdotal experience, the people who get most excited about tech gimmicks are about 60. In my circle at least, most people my age are pretty hardened against useless gimmicky bullshit like Alexa, while every one of my parents and their friends has one and uses it constantly.
