They’re still losing money on every EV they make, and Tesla is till ahead by quite a bit ytd (and is profitable). Great to see some more diversity in the market, but kind of a hollow victory for BMW imo. Hopefully, they can turn things around.

I imagine getting rid of RHD has a little to do with that.

For one month. Nice way to spin the “win” lol

What is interesting here is that BMW led for a month… which is quite notable given their product line up. Good for them.

In any case, original sources are usually preferred, so here is the original:

Those commenting on Tesla, well, Tesla usually doesn’t lead the first month of a quarter in Europe. The “first” here isn’t that Tesla lost the first month, which is usual, but that BMW is at the top.

For example, in March, VW was the leader at 31,900, while Tesla’s March was similar to July at 14,200. This is looking at BEVs only.

Unfortunately JATO doesn’t release a full dataset each time for free.

The real story here is the plummet in BEV marketshare of VW and its sub brand, Porsche.

As for Tesla, the question is going to be how long can Tesla maintain marketshare with the aging Model Y which is due for refresh soon, and folks know that. Definitely some are holding off. Meanwhile, do they want a sedan over a CUV in the Model 3? Furthermore, since Model 3’s come from China for the European market, the logistics is back to the old shipping logistics dance – almost half of their deliveries are in the 3rd month of a quarter.

I would rather buy any EV that has a proper instrument cluster. The whole only a big ipad slapped in the middle Tesla design just feels like massive cost cutting. That minimalistic design sucks in my book. Give me a proper speedometer, buttons for the AC,physical controls etc..
