I went with my heart.

This has been my dream car since 2017. It has finally happened.

Previous cars: 21 GR Supra, 21 MX5 ND2 (still own it. You’d have to take it from my cold dead hands), 17 BRZ

    Ownership report:
    Positives:

    * That engine, my god. It’s absolutely wonderful. Sounds fantastic. It pulls harder than the Supra. It’s just magnificent.
    * The handling. I don’t really understand. Nothing I have driven handles like this and I’ve driven Cayman GT4, 458, F430, 360CS. The way it flows through corners. The steering is magical, its so precise. I can place the car on a pebble. It’s just so wonderful. The chassis, you can drive this car at 4/10ths and it feels so well balanced, and stiff. It’s so planted. This was not the case with my Supra. I will have a comparison later with more ownership time. There’s no doubt in my mind this was the fastest sedan on the Nurburgring at one point. on high speed sweeprs, the faster you go, the more planted it feels. It’s SO confident. There’s ZERO understeer or Oversteer. Holy shit. Dynamically this thing is PERFECTION. I’ve never been more impressed with any car out of the box. I’ve never been more impressed with ANY car i’ve ever driven the first time. I would take this over ANY of the above cars for pure steering and chassis feel.
    * The ride. What? How. Dude. How is this so comfortable. You put it into A mode, whatever that means and it just SAILS. The suspension is so well dampened. SO much better than the GR supra’s was in any setting. Put it into Dynamic or Race and this thing just shrinks down to a 510hp BRZ. The carbon fibre bucket seats are stiff but well shaped for my 5’7 body. The ass part is a big stiff for my boney butt.
    * The quality. This might be ccontroversial. But this car has been solid in terms of fit and finish. The panel gaps are better than my ND2. The interior had a HUGE rattle in the first week, but then I found out someone left their screwedriver in the door pocket. The instrument cluster plastic rattled a tiny bit as seen in the throttle house review but I just stuffed some foam there and it never rattled again. It is so quiet on the road and rough pavement. I can blast music and it doesn’t rattle. You might expect this from a new car, but I cannot say that my BRZ, ND2 or Supra were this well put together. The supra especially, the first 3 months of ownership i got so fed up with rattles I took the interior apart and stuffed foam everywhere. You close the doors on this thing and it sounds like a vault. You hold onto the grab handle to close the door from the interior…NO CREAKS. The Supra always had this creak which cheapened the car so much. The paint also has no orange peel.
    * The interior. It’s so simple. I know the infotaintment isn’t as good as the german rivals, but it doesn’t matter. Nothing is in the infotaintment. All the functions are physical. I hook up my car play and never use the infotaintment. So it does not matter to me.
    * The sound system: I love the speakers. Big step up from any of the other cars I’ve had. I absolutely loved it. It’s not as good as the ES350 I drove but it’s not bad by any measure.
    * Everything works as expected. There’s no italian quriks. The infotaintment works better than my Mazda. Apple car play connects immediately. It never restarts or hangs like the Mazda. At least not so far. The digital instrument cluster is easy to read and intuitive. All the controls are easy to use intuitive.

    THE NEGATIVES

    * My biggest issue with the car: Power and torque are limited in Dynamic mode in first and second gear. In 3rd gear the car suddenly pulls so hard like there’s just something pushing it. In 3rd it pulls as hard as the supra did in second. 2nd pulls as hard as the Supra did in 3rd. Its a big difference. In Race mode all these limitations are removed, but then you have no traction control. Very Italian.
    * Yes, I got a CEL already. It might be because my car was getting whole body PPF done for 5 days which meant the battery was draining as they left the door, trunk etc open. This car has a IBS system for the battery which “intelligently” charges the battery as you drive for maximum performance and efficiency. It generally only charges the battery to 75-80%. And the car is very italian so its sensitive to low battery voltage. Not a good combination. It must be on a tender. It might be also be because I put Esso 91 gas in rural northern BC in it, and CEL happened the next day. I read the CEL with my OBDll device and cleared CELs and proceeded to go to a italian restaurant. It has not come back and its been a few weeks. Dealer was just like the sensors are overly sensitive, one thing was probably a bit off and it threw the CEL. Will continue to monitor. I won’t comment on reliability for now.
    * The quality of the switchgear is a bit worse than the Supra’s. Honestly it doesn’t matter. It’s not rattling thats all i care about.

I have purchased extended warranty and will have a roman catholic priest coming next month from Italy to walk around the car and chant in latin to bless it for reliability.

IMHO you should have the wheels painted silver, it will really bring out the blue.

Damn I love it so much.

From the bottom of a poorer enthusiasts heart, thank you so much for buying this new so we hopefully get more. I’ll be the third owner of one in 10 years and I very much look forward to it.
