Cliffs Notes: This is the 2nd Toyota Corolla GR that has had an engine failure recently, with warranty denied, because the owner drove 85mph.

The owner captured it all on dashcam which shows they did nothing unusual with only 23K miles on it, engine grenaded itself, with a hole in the engine, and pulled over.

This is going viral because its completely nonsense on the reason for the warranty denial, because a Corolla GR is sold as a “track ready” vehicle with a track mode, 85mph is not excessive considering its sold with tires rated for close to 200mph.

With all the Toyota transmission and engine failures making the news lately, they are rapidly destroying their reputation for reliability and a good warranty.

More info with an article on Toyota coming up with ridiculous reasons for denying warranty claims for Corolla GRs that are having engine failures: https://www.motor1.com/news/729265/toyota-gr-corolla-warranty-claims-weird-reasons/

    >”The speed was the part that really got me,” Banks told Motor1. “This was clarified more when I spoke to them on the phone. In the entire owner’s manual, it only mentions do not speed one time and from the context that it gives, it’s related to tires. That makes sense. Toyota doesn’t want to get in trouble if someone is speeding and a tire pops. But, the engine [breaking] couldn’t possibly be related to the tires.”

Virtually every Toyota can be warranty denied based on this precident, as almost all vehicles at some point or another have exceeded 85mph.

Did a GM executive just get hired by Toyota??

Im starting to think that the GR Corrola isnt going to be as epic of a car that its been made out to be. Ive heard of a few rear diffs starting to over heat. Now this issue with the engine and Toyota giving out some loopy answer to get out of repairing the car from a blow engine block. Maybe they should stick to companies like BMW and Subaru to lean on for better performance vehicles.

But 85 is a legal speed limit in some areas. Also, it’s not that fast.

  6. lmao I can’t imagine this in Germany. 85 mph is only around 136 kph. That’s like cruising speed

Sadly we don’t have GR Corollas, only GR Yaris, but those lil guys are definitely being driving way past 200 kph (around 120mph)

Huh, this gets even worse, apparently. Looks like the claims analyst is just rubber stamping anything to do with a fire with the exact same language.

“Like Mr. Banks, Sebastian says it was difficult to get Toyota’s comment on the matter. He told the publication that it took a month to get the car inspected, with nobody taking his calls. And it gets worse. Once Sebastian and Banks reached out to each other on Reddit, they discovered that **Toyota assigned the same Legal Claims Analyst to their respective cases. Both customers got the same letter, with the same dates, even though Banks’ fire occurred on June 8, and not May 3.** This is not a good look for Toyota, as its reputation has been built on customer care and reliability. Perhaps Toyota should take a leaf out of Koenigsegg’s book and replace these burnt vehicles for free.”

Quick response, “I drove in West Texas.”

Speed limit up to 85 in some areas. Fuck you Toyota.

Toyota is cooked. They built a legendary legacy on reliability, to the point that their cars now command an insane premium, especially on the used market. Then their absolutely genius bean counters decided they would take the things that got them there (like strict QC, using the same engine for 30 years because it’s proven, foregoing luxury features to keep price lower/broken shit less common) and threw it all out the window.

Sounds like Toyota hired some GM executives, no way it’s the same people from a few years ago
