2006 Volvo V70 R with 188K Miles – Worth the 7 hours trip to see it? Details inside

Hey all,

Still on the hunt for the right car. I’m in Canada, but I’ve converted everything to freedom units for convenience—because, hey, Reddit!

I’m eyeing another V70R from a used car dealership, but she’s got REALLY high mileage. I’ve never owned a car with more than 120,000 miles before. Here’s the [ad for the Volvo V70 R](https://www.bulletproofauto.ca/cars/used/2006-volvo-v70-125139), including a video walkaround and a link to the Carfax in the bottom right of the page.

**Car info:**

– **Model:** 2006 Volvo V70 R, manual transmission
– **Price:** US$ 9,500 (CA$ 12,990)
– **Mileage:** 188,268 miles (302,764 km)
– **Issues:** ABS light is on, which the dealer mentions might indicate a sensor or pump issue, common for this model.
– **Extras:** Includes winter and summer tires and rims.
– **Ownership:** It’s been with the same owner for the last 12 years.
– _**Note:** The owner is a woman. Why does it matter? I have no idea! I don’t understand why dealers highlight female ownership as if it’s a guarantee of gentle use. I’ve seen women kill it at track days on perfectly maintained machines, and others who treat their cars like a mystery until something falls off. Can car sales folks enlighten me here?_

**Carfax key points:**

– **Ownership changes:**
– Nov 18, 2005
– Dec 29, 2006
– Nov 9, 2007
– Sep 27, 2012
– **Accident:** Police Reported Accident on Aug 11, 2008, with minor damage to the left front. No amount specified.
– **Maintenance:** Some paper records, but the file seems thin on the walkaround video. Not much detail in the Carfax.

Normally, I would see the car, test-drive it and, if it seems okay, have it inspected. However, the dealership is 7 hours away, so I’ll have to inspect it first this time, which is why I’d like your input on:

1. **Longevity:** With proper maintenance, do you think this V70 R could reliably last another 62,137 miles (100,000 KM)?
2. **Engine:** Most V70Rs I’ve looked into had their original engines replaced. The dealer couldn’t confirm if this one has its original engine. How can I verify this? What specific questions should I ask?
3. **ABS light:** According to the dealer, it’s common for this car. Minor fix or big issue?
4. **General:** Anything suspicious in the photos or description? What should I ask the dealer? Common problems?
5. **Price:** Given its history and condition, does the asking price seem fair?
6. **Warranty:** Given the mileage, I plan to get a used car warranty. Any recommendations or companies to avoid? Remember I’m in Canada, car is in ON, but I’m in QC.

Thank you for your help and expertise!
