How to Charge Your EV at Home | Chevrolet

You can charge your vehicle at home similar to the way you charge your laptop or phone… And there are two options to choose from: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 charging can be used in a standard 3-prong wall outlet. Depending on your vehicle, it gives you between

1 and 4 miles of range per hour of charge. Which makes it a good option when no other charging is available. To start charging, put your vehicle in Park and locate the charging port on the outside of your vehicle. Open your charge port door. Inside the charge port you’ll see

The Combined Charging System inlet. Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging is supported by the top half — and DC Fast Charging by the lower half. For Level 1 Charging, you can use the available Dual Level Charge Cord. The vehicle’s charging status indicator will light up when charging begins.

You may also hear a chirp to let you know that charging has begun. The vehicle’s Driver Information Center or center display will also display a charging indicator. For the best home charging experience, Level 2 charging is recommended. There are two options you can choose from: The four-prong Dual Level Charge Cord attaches

To a 240-volt outlet typically used by larger appliances such as electric ranges, and may require professional installation. The Dual Level Charge Cord gives you a Level 2 charge about 5 times faster than Level 1, so you can get going sooner. For your safety, no other adapters or extension cords

Should be plugged into the Dual Level Charge Cord unless provided by Chevrolet for EV charging. An 11.5-kilowatt or 19.2-kilowatt wall charger charges even faster — depending on your vehicle. Check with your dealer to see if your EV is suited to these chargers. There are also advanced charging preferences

That can be set from the center display, like charging based on departure time — or to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates (if available). You can even set different preferences for when you are at home, or on the go, with the location-based charging setting. And you can also check the charging status

Through the myChevrolet Mobile App. Chevrolet recommends you charge daily to 80%, and save full charges for longer trips. This helps promote battery health and optimal regenerative braking performance, which helps increase efficiency. For longer trips, you can adjust your charge above 80% for extended range by sliding the indicator to the desired charge level.

Slide the indicator back to 80% when additional charging is no longer needed. So, there you have it. Plug in your vehicle like you plug in your phone for greater charging convenience at home.
